Study on Spline Stress of Separator Plates in a Wet Multi-Plate Clutch.

The spline teeth fracture of separator plates in wet multi-plate clutches compromises driving safety and the vehicle's lifespan. Tooth fracture is mainly caused by stress concentration at the tooth root and uneven circumferential load distribution. This paper considers parameters such as torque, teeth count, tooth profile, and misalignment errors, establishing the corresponding finite element (FE) model to analyze the impact of the above-mentioned parameters on the strength of the separator plates. Analysis under even and biased load circumstances demonstrated that an optimum tooth count and p

Dental exarticulation.

Tooth exarticulation or avulsion refers to the complete displacement of the tooth out of its socket. It is a complex injury, requiring immediate intervention for optimal results. Literature indicates that prolonged dry time and improper handling may be associated with increased risk of failure. Immediate replantation of the tooth allows for immediate restoration of esthetics and phonetics. This case report presents the management of an avulsed mature tooth in a young boy, with a two-year follow-up, which had been preserved in milk after around 15-20 minutes of injury and transplanted after two

Effects of Computer Assisted Design-Computer Assisted Manufacturing Nickel-Titanium Fixed Lingual Retainers Versus Conventional Flexible Multistrand Retainers on Tooth Displacements and Periodontal Ligament Stress Distributions in the Mandibular Anterior Teeth at Four Different Inclinations: A Finite Element Analysis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Little information is available on tooth displacement and periodontal ligament (PDL) stress distribution caused by computer assisted design-computer assisted manufacturing (CAD/CAM) retainers. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare CAD/CAM and multistrand retainers in terms of PDL stresses, risk of root resorption, and displacements of mandibular anterior teeth with 4 different inclinations using finite element analysis. METHODS: In this computer-based finite element simulation, eight models consisting of the six mandibular anterior teeth, their PDLs, and sur

Removal of mandibular third molars displaced to deep fascial spaces: case reports.

This article reports the treatment of 2 cases of mandibular third molar displacement into deep fascial spaces during attempted extraction, 1 of which resulted in acute infection. In addition to treatment approaches, the article reviews the risk factors for tooth displacement and techniques that may be used for its prevention. In both of the reported cases, after tooth extraction procedures resulted in the displacement of a third molar, the correct location of the tooth was ascertained by 3-dimensional imaging. The displaced tooth was removed via intraoral access while the patient wasunder gene

The genetic basis of hypodontia in dental development.

Dental agenesis is one of the most common developmental anomalies in humans, characterised by the developmental absence of one or more teeth. It can present as an isolated condition (non-syndromic hypodontia) or associated with a syndrome (syndromic hypodontia). This paper aims to review the genetic basis of hypodontia with reference to aetiology, classification and the subsequent clinical features.Significant progress has been made to identify the developmental basis of tooth formation, though there is still a lack of knowledge within the literature of the aetiological basis of inherited toot

Complication Management of a Socket Shield Case After 6 Years of Function.

Maintaining soft and hard tissues around dental implants after tooth extraction is one of the major challenges in implant dentistry. After tooth extraction, the subsequent loss of bone and soft tissue is inevitable due to the partial resorption of the buccal bone plate. The recently described socket shield technique addresses the problem by maintaining the buccal piece of the tooth in the extraction socket in order to preserve the buccal bone. As with every new technique, specific complications, like infection of the buccal piece of the tooth, can occur. Herein, the authors present a clinical

Long-term management of an ankylosed young permanent incisor replanted within 2 h of avulsion: A case report with a 10-year follow-up.

Tooth avulsion is a severe form of luxation injury that involves damage to both the pulp and the periodontal ligament. Avulsed teeth need to be replanted immediately in order to restore esthetics and function. Delayed replantation often results in ankylosis of the tooth which is a common sequela following avulsion injuries. An ankylosed tooth with a necrotic periodontal membrane does not move along with a growing alveolus leading to an arrest in height and width of the alveolar bone causing the tooth to be infraoccluded in a growing individual. This case report describes the multidisciplinary

Conservative treatment of dentigerous cyst associated with primary teeth.

Dentigerous cyst is the most common odontogenic cyst. It is characterized by a unilocular radiolucent lesion that encloses permanent tooth buds or, under certain circumstances, displaced tooth buds. Buccal bony expansion is the most common clinical feature. Several treatment modalities have been mentioned in the literature for management of dentigerous cysts. The purpose of this article was to report an extensive right mandibular dentigerous cyst on a 10-year-old boy. Marsupialization was chosen to preserve the permanent tooth bud and a denturelike obturator was then provided for space mainten

Ontogenetic bases of canine dimorphism in anthropoid primates.

This study tests hypotheses regarding the ontogeny of canine tooth size dimorphism in five anthropoid primate species (Saguinus fuscicollis, Macaca mulatta, Cercocebus atys, Papio hamadryas, and Mandrillus sphinx). Canine measurements and chronological age data are analyzed to determine if bimaturism, a sex difference in the age at which eruption ceases, accounts for canine tooth sexual dimorphism. Canine height measurements are evaluated through a variety of regression techniques. Results show a lack of sexual dimorphism in Saguinus. While size dimorphism is absent in the deciduous teeth of a

Sharp curvature of premolar resulting in external apical root resorption of the neighbouring molar.

This case report describes an external apical root resorption resulted from the unusual root morphology of the neighbouring tooth. A 28-year-old female was referred to the department of endodontics with a complaint of intense pain in her maxillary second premolar tooth. The clinical and radiographical evaluation revealed an external apical resorption in the mesial root of the maxillary first molar, which shows close proximity to the severely curved root of the premolar. A successful root canal treatment of the premolar was performed using anticurvature filing method. However, molar tooth recei

Morphological and clinical considerations of first and second permanent molar eruption disorders.

Tooth eruption is a complex biological process which starts from the site of development in the jaw bone until the teeth reach their final functional position in the chewing plane. Various factors can disturb this process. Besides mechanical obstacles on the eruption path, a pathological position or axial orientation of the tooth germ, morphological aberrations of the tooth or pathological alterations of the periodontium, primary disorders of the eruption mechanism may lead to complete or partial retention of the tooth in the jaw bone. These morphological features bear upon the prognosis of or

Compromised Teeth Preserve or Extract: A Review of the Literature.

Multiple systems and associated factors have been described in the literature to assess the prognosis of teeth with periodontal disease. Nowadays there is a tendency among clinicians to consider implants as the best solution after tooth extraction, in cases of teeth with a questionable prognosis. However, the value of the natural tooth must be considered, as the proprioception of the periodontal ligament is preserved, and it adapts to stress during functional loads. We first review the literature focusing on analyzing the factors that should guide decision-making to maintain or extract a tooth

Heavy metals in human primary teeth: some factors influencing the metal concentrations.

Human primary teeth have been used as indicators of heavy metal exposure for several decades, but the knowledge about the influence of factors such as tooth type and the presence of caries and roots on metal concentrations is limited. Samples of tooth powder from more than 1200 Norwegian primary teeth without fillings have been analyzed for lead, zinc and cadmium content, and 554 of them for mercury. The material represents all groups of tooth types (incisors, canines and molars), carious and non-carious teeth, and teeth with and without roots. Here we investigate how tooth group and the prese

Expression of type I and XII collagen during development of the periodontal ligament in the mouse.

The purpose (of this study) was to determine the temporal and spatial pattern of type XII collagen expression during murine tooth/root development. Using in situ hybridization techniques, expression of type XII collagen was compared with that of type I collagen, the most abundant collagen in periodontal tissues. Mouse first mandibular molars were examined at the following developmental periods: pre-root formation, early root formation, initial alignment of the periodontal ligament (PDL) fibres, and PDL maturation as the tooth erupted and attained occlusal function.
