Unsupervised Moving Object Segmentation from Stationary or Moving Camera based on Multi-frame Homography Constraints.

Moving object segmentation is the most fundamental task for many vision-based applications. In the past decade, it has been performed on the stationary camera, or moving camera, respectively. In this paper, we show that the moving object segmentation can be addressed in a unified framework for both type of cameras. The proposed method consists of two stages: (1) In the first stage, a novel multi-frame homography model is generated to describe the background motion. Then, the inliers and outliers of that model are classified as background trajectories and moving object trajectories by the desig

Management of Acute Retinal Ischemia: Follow the Guidelines!

Acute retinal arterial ischemia, including vascular transient monocular vision loss (TMVL) and branch (BRAO) and central retinal arterial occlusions (CRAO), are ocular and systemic emergencies requiring immediate diagnosis and treatment. Guidelines recommend the combination of urgent brain magnetic resonance imaging with diffusion-weighted imaging, vascular imaging, and clinical assessment to identify TMVL, BRAO, and CRAO patients at highest risk for recurrent stroke, facilitating early preventive treatments to reduce the risk of subsequent stroke and cardiovascular events. Because the risk of

On the Role of Color in Reading and Comprehension Tasks in Dyslexic Children and Adults.

We investigated the effect of chromatic variations on the reading process with normal and dyslexic readers. We demonstrate that color can induce wholeness, parts-whole organization and phenomenal fragmentation during reading and comprehension tasks within written texts made up of words and non-words in the following conditions: monochromatic (the whole text colored with only one color), word (each word colored in different color), half word (half word colored with a color different from the one of the second half), syllable (every syllable colored with a different color) and letter (each lette

Anterolateral corridor approach to the infratemporal fossa and central skull base in maxillectomy: rationale and technical aspects.

We describe the technical aspects and report our clinical experience of a surgical approach to the infratemporal fossa that aims to reduce local recurrence after operations for cancer of the posterior maxilla. We tested the technique by operating on 3 cadavers and then used the approach in 16 patients who had posterolateral maxillectomy for disease that arose on the maxillary alveolus or junction of the hard and soft palate (maxillary group), and in 19 who had resection of the masticatory compartment and central skull base for advanced sinonasal cancer (sinonasal group). Visual improvement and pain resolution in traumatic optic nerve sheath meningocele treated by optic nerve sheath fenestration.

PURPOSE: There is no consensus as to the optimum treatment for traumatic optic neuropathy (TON). The decision to intervene medically or surgically, or simply observe was recommended to be on an individual basis. The purpose of this study is to test whether optic nerve sheath fenestration (ONSF) could improve vision in patients with traumatic optic nerve sheath meningocele, although it was reported to be effective in patients with traumatic optic nerve sheath hematoma. METHODS: ONSF was performed on two traumatic patients with dilated optic nerve sheath from MRI. RESULTS: Both patients initia

Identification of a novel nonsense mutation p.Tyr1957Ter of CACNA1A in a Chinese family with episodic ataxia 2.

Type 2 episodic ataxia (EA2) is the most common subtype among a group of rare hereditary syndromes characterized by recurrent attacks of ataxia. More than 60 mutations and several gene rearrangements due to large deletions in CACNA1A gene have been reported so far for the cause of EA2. Because CACNA1A gene is a large gene containing 47 exons and there is no hot spot mutation, direct sequencing will be a challenge in clinical genetic testing. In this study, we used next generation sequencing technology to identify a novel nonsense mutation of CACNA1A (p.Tyr1957Ter, NP_001120693.1) resulting in

Cytotoxicity of topical medications used for infection and inflammation control after cataract surgery in cultured corneal endothelial cells.

Postoperative vision-threatening corneal edema sometimes occurs after eye surgery, and corneal endothelial damage may be caused or exacerbated by drug toxicity. A range of commercially available antibiotic and anti-inflammatory ophthalmic solutions used postoperatively, namely levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, gatifloxacin, cefmenoxime, diclofenac, bromfenac, pranoprofen, betamethasone, and fluoromethorone, were assessed by using human corneal endothelial cells (HCECs). Propylparaoxybenzoate and methylparaoxybenzoate were also examined. Cell survival after 48 h exposure to the drugs was evaluated us

Management of bilateral uveitis in a Toxoplasma gondii-seropositive cat with histopathologic evidence of fungal panuveitis.

A 5-year-old, neutered male Domestic Short-haired cat was referred with a 5-month history of anterior uveitis and cataract in the right eye. Clinical examination confirmed anterior uveitis and immature cataract in the right eye and chorioretinitis in the left eye. Ocular ultrasound showed a retinal detachment in the right eye. Diagnostic testing revealed elevated serum titers for Toxoplasma gondii. Anterior uveitis in the right eye and chorioretinitis in the left eye progressed, resulting in blindness despite a 21-day course of clindamycin and aggressive topical medical management of uveitis.

[A case of myasthenia gravis appearing after thymomectomy: with histopathological investigation].

We report a 64-years old man who had myasthenia gravis (MG) appearing after surgical removal of thymoma. His thymoma was not removed completely due to adhesion with other organs. Histopathologicaly, the thymoma was an invasive and predominantly epithelial type. CD45RO positive cells increased in the thymus. After five months of thymectomy, he received radiation therapy because the remaining tumor grew up slightly. The radiation was effective, and the recurrence of tumor has never been detected after that. However, nine months after the surgery, he noticed ptosis and double vision, and he was d
