Pilot and Feasibility Study of an Individualized Telehealth Exercise Program for People with Cystic Fibrosis.

Background: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) recognizes exercise as a critical part of managing cystic fibrosis (CF). This becomes even more important in the era of highly effective modulator therapy (HEMT) due to many people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) having decreased symptom burden and a newfound ability to tolerate exercise better. Our single-center pilot study was designed to assess the implementation of a remotely delivered, individualized, and comprehensive exercise program for pwCF. We aimed to determine the feasibility, safety and acceptance of this intervention. Methods: PwCF ≥ 1

A Cross-Sectional Pilot Study of Probable Sarcopenia in Hemodialysis Patients.

UNLABELLED: Chronic kidney disease is defined as a progressive pathology that affects more than 10% of the world's population, affecting waste filtration capacity. Sarcopenia, characterized by loss of muscle mass and strength, is a common complication in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. It is associated with inflammation, malnutrition and reduced quality of life. Hemodialysis is the fundamental treatment for people with chronic kidney disease, as it is key to the elimination of toxins from the body. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the preva

Physical and Psychological Effects of Home-Based vs Face-to-Face Prehabilitation in Individuals With Severe Obesity Awaiting Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a growing public health issue associated with comorbidities and substantial medical costs. Although bariatric and metabolic surgery (BMS) is often recommended for individuals with severe obesity, prehabilitation may optimize their physical and psychological status. However, face-to-face delivery can limit accessibility, and evidence on home-based approaches remains scarce. OBJECTIVE: This study protocol aims to compare the effectiveness of a home-based prehabilitation program with a face-to-face prehabilitation program on physical and psychological variables in individu

The Role of Brain Structure in Explaining Physical Functioning in Male Veterans With Impaired Kidney Function.

BACKGROUND: Older adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) experience deficits in physical function and cardiorespiratory fitness at higher rates than older adults without impaired renal function. Emerging evidence suggests covert brain pathology may be contributing to these functional impairments. However, much of the previous work has not controlled for common cardiac comorbidities also associated with brain pathology and reduced physical function. The present analysis investigates differences in global brain structure, physical performance, and cardiorespiratory fitness between older adults

Comparison of high-intensity laser therapy and extracorporeal shock wave therapy for the treatment of plantar flexor spasticity in post-stroke patients.

BACKGROUND: Post-stroke plantar flexor spasticity impairs gait and functional mobility. Noninvasive modalities such as radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy (rESWT) and high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) have been proposed as adjunctive treatments; however, comparative evidence is limited. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the effects of rESWT and HILT, applied to ankle plantar flexor muscles, on spasticity and functional gait parameters in stroke patients. METHODS: This prospective, randomized, controlled, parallel-group clinical trial included 42 stroke patients with ankle plantar

Spinal cord diffusion tensor imaging predicts balance in degenerative cervical myelopathy.

INTRODUCTION: Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is the leading cause of spinal cord dysfunction in adults and a major contributor to balance impairment and gait instability. Surgical decompression halts disease progression, but predicting post-surgical functional recovery remains challenging. Conventional MRI poorly reflects spinal cord microstructural integrity, limiting its ability to quantify sensorimotor deficits or predict outcomes. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) provides quantitative measures of tract-specific microstructure and may serve as a more sensitive biomarker for functional

[The diagnostic strategy, procedure and pathway for acute vestibular syndrome SCD].

Acute vestibular syndrome(AVS) accounts for about 5% of walk clinic, and 20% of neurology consultations in the emergency department. A central acute vestibular syndrome is of high-risk vertigo disorders or potentially life-threaten disorders. Some of the central vestibular vertigo, especially brainstem or cerebellar ischemic infarction, can be misdiagnosed due to the absence of focal neurological symptoms and signs. In the past decade, the diagnosis mode and diagnosis pathway of vestibular syndrome have been made great progress. The HINTS examination battery reported by Kattah et al. (2009), t
