[THE COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MORTALITY FROM MALIGNANT NEOPLASMS IN MOSCOW AND THE MOSCOW OBLAST].

The City of Moscow and the Moscow Oblast form the Moscow agglomeration, but urban residents have advantages over rural ones. The contribution of deaths from malignant neoplasms (MNP) into mortality from all causes in higher in Moscow (23.3±0.5% and 18.3±2.8%) than in the Moscow Oblast (15.0±0.3% and 12.3±2.2%). The standardized mortality rate from MNP in Moscow made up to 146.82±2.05 per 100,000 of population in 2017-2019 and 131.35±8.92 in 2020-2022. In the Moscow Oblast the mentioned indicator made up to 138.54±0.12 and 131.84±4.10, respectively. In both City of Moscow and the Moscow Oblast

Rare case of myelodysplastic syndrome with excess blasts 2 developing after adjuvant chemoradiotherapy for triple-negative breast cancer in a patient with Bloom syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Bloom syndrome (BS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by a loss-of-function mutation in the BLM gene encoding an RecQ helicase involved in DNA repair and maintenance of chromosomal stability. In patients with BS, significant sensitivity to both DNA-damaging chemotherapy (CT) and ionizing radiation complicates the management of neoplasms by exacerbating comorbidities and predisposing to toxicities and poor outcomes. CASE REPORT: A 30-year-old female patient diagnosed with BS who presented with early-stage triple-negative breast cancer was treated with four cycles of d

Nipple adenoma: A clinicopathological study over a period of six years in tertiary care center.

BACKGROUND: Nipple adenoma (NA) is a rare benign neoplasm of the nipple arising from the lactiferous duct. Often seen in middle aged women, presenting as a nodule, erosive, or ulcerative lesion and associated with serous or bloody discharge. Histologically, they comprise closely arranged tubules with papillary infoldings centered around the lactiferous ducts. It is most likely clinically confused with Paget's disease and histologically with invasive breast carcinoma or its precursor lesions. The aid of immunohistochemistry is valuable in differentiating these entities and to definitively exclu

Massive limb lymphedema as the initial presentation of multiple myeloma: a case report.

Multiple myeloma is a malignant neoplasm of plasma cells that primarily causes bone destruction and marrow failure. We report a female patient who presented with limb lymphedema as the first manifestation of multiple myeloma. According to guideline of the International Myeloma Working Group, this patient was diagnosed as symptomatic IgG lambda MM (Durie-Salmon stage II and International System Stage II) based on the detected values of an M-protein in the serum, clonal bone marrow plasma cells > 10% and anemia. Lymphedema was divided into primary and secondary. The most common secondary factor

A unique surgical case of giant invasive intracystic carcinoma of the male breast focusing on cytological findings.

A 60-year-old male presented with a history of a relatively hard and cystic right chest mass that had gradually increased in size, with subsequent skin erosion, exudate and hemorrhage. The cytologic specimens from a cyst fluid contained a large number of sheet-like or papillary clusters of atypical cuboidal to columnar epithelial cells with loss of myoepithelial components, in a severely inflammatory background with scattered siderophages. We first interpreted it as a carcinoma, but could not completely exclude out the possibilities of benign. Tumor extirpation was performed, and a gross exami

Mammary analogue secretory carcinoma of the minor salivary gland: report of two cases.

Mammary analogue secretory carcinoma (MASC) is a recently described salivary gland tumour notable for a balanced chromosomal translocation t(12;15)(p13;q25) that contributes to ETV6 gene rearrangements. It was first reported in 2010 by Skalova et al. with histological features resembling secretory carcinoma of the breast and was acknowledged and referred to as "secretory carcinoma" in the updated 2017 WHO classification. It is reported that MASC accounts for <0.3% of all salivary gland tumours, with a finite number of published reports on it. MASC has a range of histological features and clini

The Role of Testin in Human Cancers.

Testin is a protein expressed in almost all normal human tissues. It locates in the cytoplasm along stress fibers being recruited to focal adhesions. Together with zyxin and vasodilator stimulated protein it forms complexes with various cytoskeleton proteins such as actin, talin and paxilin. They jointly play significant role in cell motility and adhesion. In addition, their involvement in the cell cycle has been demonstrated. Expression of testin protein level correlates positively with percentage of cells in G1 phase, while overexpression can induce apoptosis and decreased colony forming abi

Is periodontitis a risk indicator for cancer? A meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present systematic review was to evaluate the hypothesis of an association between periodontitis and the development of cancer. METHODS: Two reviewers independently screened electronic and manual sources for pertinent articles. Primary outcome measures were the occurrence of neoplasm diagnosis in exposed and non-exposed groups, reported to evaluate association between cancer and periodontitis. RESULTS: Of the 490 initially retrieved papers 10 were included in the qualitative synthesis and eight in the quantitative synthesis; the eight papers covered six studies. Co

PIK3CA and AKT1 mutations in hidradenoma papilliferum.

AIMS: Hidradenoma papilliferum (HP) is a benign vulvar neoplasm that arises from anogenital mammary-like glands, and its morphology is similar to mammary intraductal papilloma. The aim of this study was to investigate oncogenic mutations involved in the tumourigenesis of HP. We focused specifically on PIK3CA and AKT1 mutations, which are both reported to be detected in 33% of mammary intraductal papillomas. METHODS: In total, seven HP cases were analysed. Clinicopathological analyses and immunohistochemistry for oestrogen receptor, p63, smooth muscle actin (SMA), p53 and β-catenin were perfor

Extracutaneous Merkel cell carcinomas harbor polyomavirus DNA.

Merkel cell carcinoma is a neuroendocrine tumor, with characteristic morphological and immunohistochemical features. Originally reported as primary carcinoma of skin, it has been described in numerous other sites such as lymph nodes, oral cavity, breast, vaginal walls, and salivary glands. Recent studies have revealed in cutaneous Merkel cell carcinomas a clonally integrated polyomavirus, named Merkel cell polyomavirus. The aim of the present study was to verify the presence of Merkel cell polyomavirus in 5 cases of primary Merkel cell carcinomas of lymph nodes and 1 case of parotid gland to i

Incidence of bone and soft tissue sarcoma after radiotherapy: a cohort study of 295,712 Finnish cancer patients.

Radiotherapy is commonly used for treatment of malignant disease. As a consequence of radiotherapy, an increased risk of developing a second malignant neoplasm has been shown. However, little is known about the effects of radiation on developing sarcoma. The aim of this study was to examine the risk of developing a bone or soft tissue sarcoma after radiotherapy for a first primary cancer. The study population included all the patients with primary cancers of breast, cervix uteri, corpus uteri, lung, ovary, prostate, rectum and lymphoma diagnosed during 1953-2000 and identified from the Finnish

Incidence of a second tumor in hypopituitary patients operated for pituitary tumors.

Recently, an association between increased blood levels of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) and increased risks of prostate, breast, lung, and colorectal cancers has been suggested. As today adults with GH deficiency are subjected to GH substitution, there is a pressing need for baseline tumor incidence data. The aim of the study was to assess the risk for a second tumor in a cohort of 328 patients with hypopituitarism treated for a pituitary tumor from 1958--1992. The patients were receiving conventional hormone treatment, but without GH substitution. The overall tumor incidence [standard

Loss of FHIT expression in transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder.

Cytogenetic and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) studies demonstrated chromosome 3p deletions in transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). We recently cloned the tumor suppressor gene FHIT (fragile histidine triad) at 3p14.2, one of the most frequently deleted chromosomal regions in TCC of the bladder, and showed that it is the target of environmental carcinogens. Abnormalities at the FHIT locus have been found in tumors of the lung, breast, cervix, head and neck, stomach, pancreas, and clear cell carcinoma of the kidney. We examined six TCC derived cell lines (SW780, T24, Hs228T, CRL7930, CRL7833, and H

Benign mesothelial cells in mediastinal lymph nodes.

Inclusions of benign tissues in lymph nodes are most often aberrant glandular tissue, including endosalpingiosis, the thyroid, parotid, breast, and pancreas. Nonglandular inclusions are rare and include nevus cells and decidua. Mesothelial cells in lymph nodes are exceedingly rare; only eight cases have been reported in mediastinal lymph nodes and three cases in abdominal lymph nodes. The incidence of benign mesothelial cells in mediastinal lymph nodes in patients with a history of pericarditis or pleuritis is reported in this study. A retrospective search showed eight cases with removal of me

[Mortality among Japanese migrants residing in the municipality of São Paulo, Brazil, 1990].

The mortality patterns of Japanese migrants (issei) and their descendants (nissei/sansei) resident in the City of S. Paulo, Brazil, are compared with those of their native country (Japan) and their place of adoption (S. Paulo), in 1980. The mortality data were obtained from death certificates for the issei and nissei/sansei populations and from official tabulations for deaths in Japan and S. Paulo. The population estimates were based upon the S. Paulo and Japanese censuses. The age-standardized populations were calculated according to the Jowett method. The five leading causes of death were ba
