Tramadol overdose in total knee arthroplasty: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Tramadol is a synthetic opioid analgesic commonly employed in postoperative pain control due to its moderate efficacy and comparatively favorable safety profile. Nonetheless, overdose can result in significant adverse effects, notably central nervous system depression. This risk is amplified in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD), where reduced renal clearance may potentiate drug accumulation and toxicity. Elderly patients are particularly at risk owing to age-associated alterations in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. We describe a case of tramadol overdose in a 77-

Factor Eight Inhibitor Bypass Activity Use in Cardiac Surgery: A Propensity-matched Analysis of Safety Outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Bleeding during cardiac surgery may be refractory to standard interventions. Off-label use of factor eight inhibitor bypass activity (FEIBA) has been described to treat such bleeding. However, reports of safety, particularly thromboembolic outcomes, show mixed results, and reported cohorts have been small. METHODS: Adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery on cardiopulmonary bypass between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2023, at Stanford Hospital (Stanford, California) were reviewed (n = 3,335). Patients who received FEIBA to treat postcardiopulmonary bypass bleeding were matched with

ABO Blood Type and Thromboembolic Complications after Intracerebral Hemorrhage: an exploratory analysis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Non-O blood types are known to be associated with thromboembolic complications (TECs) in population-based studies. TECs are known drivers of morbidity and mortality in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) patients, yet the relationships of blood type on TECs in this patient population are unknown. We sought to explore the relationships between ABO blood type and TECs in ICH patients. METHODS: Consecutive adult ICH patients enrolled into a prospective observational cohort study with available ABO blood type data were analyzed. Patients with cancer history, prior thromboemboli
