BACKGROUND: Many studies of fruit and vegetable consumption showed inverse associations with breast cancer risk, suggesting the potential importance of carotenoids (and other phytochemicals) contained in these foods. To date, however, only one prospective cohort study has examined dietary carotenoids other than beta-carotene in relation to breast cancer risk.

Active and passive surveillance methods were utilized in an attempt to identify all neural tube defect (NTD)-affected pregnancies in South Carolina, a state previously identified to have a high prevalence of these defects (Greenberg et al., 1983). A cross sectional study was conducted in Jagapati Village, Bali to assess some characteristics of hookworm anemia among the adult population. Hookworm anemia was defined as an iron deficiency anemia in heavily infected individuals (EPG > 2,000). WHO criteria for anemia and criteria of Hercberg for iron deficiency were used. Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired clonal disorder characterized by sensitive populations of erythrocytes, granulocytes and platelets. Individual tolerance to single or widely spaced doses of methotrexate was explored in 49 patients with advanced cancer with normal serum creatinine and/or blood urea nitrogen. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC) is linked to numerous adverse health outcomes. However, limiting exposure to EDCs remains a significant challenge due to their widespread uses and persistence in the environment. Adequate micronutrient status supports optimal health and may offer actionable strategies for mitigating the adverse health effects of EDCs. This scoping review aimed to summarize the epidemiologic evidence on micronutrients as potential mitigators of EDC-related health outcomes, with the goal of guiding future research and methodologies.

This study presents a rapid method for evaluating cholinesterase (ChE) activity using an amperometric choline biosensor based on an enzymatic membrane incorporating choline oxidase (ChOx) and a selectivity-providing acetylated cellulose layer.
