An investigation of two Shigella sonnei shigellosis outbreaks that occurred in a communal settlement indicated that the transmission of the pathogen was restricted to day-care classes and secondary infection of family members was minimal. Development of serotype-specific immunity following S. sonnei infection was observed among infected children.

During the last 18 years, 81 patients were diagnosed in the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Rambam Medical Center, as having congenital diaphragmatic hernia, 11 of whom (13.5%) presented after the first 24 h of life. In this retrospective study we describe our experience with late presentation (beyond 8 weeks after birth) of Bochdalek hernia in 5 of the 11 patients, and we review the literature.

The long-term effects of vacuum and forceps deliveries are largely unknown. We determined the long-term outcome of instrumental deliveries in 52,282 infants born in Jerusalem between 1964 and 1972. Eighty-eight episodes of wound associated infection were identified among 624 consecutively admitted battlefield casualties. BACKGROUND: Physical restraint of patients in intensive care units (ICUs) has an estimated prevalence of 50%. Many medical centres do not have specific protocols for physical restraint, and the decision of whether to physically restrain a patient is up to the nursing staff. Disadvantages of physical restraint include injuries, exacerbation of agitation and an increased risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
