Embryonal sarcoma of the liver is an unusual tumor. The cystic form is rare and can mimic hydatid disease. We present a case that was mistakenly treated as a hydatid cyst for 3 months. Surgery was successful in removing the mass.

Spontaneous ruptures of a liver tumour are often considered as a potentially life-threatening situation. The aim of the present study was to evaluate both clinical features and treatment in a subgroup of patients with ruptured liver tumours. From 1995 to 2000, 20 patients were referred to our centre for spontaneous rupture of a liver tumour associated with haemoperitoneum. OBJECTIVES: To study the incidence, presentation, and outcome of patients with severe liver disease in an urban Indian population.
METHOD: 26 patients with severe liver disease were identified in the study period of one year at a teaching tertiary care institute in Mumbai. Investigations included bedside Bleeding and Clotting Time (BT/CT), coagulation profiles and liver and renal function tests. Management was directed towards initial stabilization followed by early delivery in an intensive care setting.

Acute liver disease was diagnosed in three pregnant patients: two 30-year-old women had a 'haemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets' (HELLP) syndrome and acute fatty liver of pregnancy, respectively, and a 20-year-old woman had acute liver failure due to acute hepatitis B. The first two patients had a caesarean section, the third one delivered her child, which died spontaneously shortly after birth at a gestational age of 23 weeks. Spontaneous rupture of liver hemangiomas is exceptional, they rarely increase in size. Elective surgery of liver hemangiomas is safe and effective. In our teaching hospital during a 5-year period 9 patients underwent elective surgery for giant liver hemangiomas, one more patient required urgent operation for spontaneous rupture. Diffuse hemangiomatoses are extremely rare in adults. The etiology and natural history of the disease are not well understood. A case of diffuse hemangiomatosis of the liver and spleen associated with progressive liver failure, thrombocytopenia, and disturbance of blood coagulation (comparable to Kasabach-Merritt syndrome) is presented in a 62-year-old male. We describe the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings and illustrate the morphological aspects of differential diagnosis, distinguishing the disease from other vascular proliferations.
