Smoking cessation for peripheral arterial disease: systematic review protocol.

BACKGROUND: peripheral arterial disease has smoking as its main avoidable vascular risk factor. However, most studies do not focus on smoking as the main exposure variable. OBJECTIVES: to assess the impact of smoking cessation interventions versus active comparator, placebo or no intervention, on peripheral arterial disease outcomes. METHODS: we will use the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions to guide whole this review process. We will consider parallel or cluster-randomised controlled trials (RCTs), quasi-RCTs, and cohort studies. We will search CENTRAL, MEDLINE, Emba

The effects of non-invasive brain stimulation on disorder of consciousness in patients with brain injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Disorders of consciousness (DOC) result from neural system injury and manifest as changes in arousal or awareness. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), on consciousness dysfunction in patients with brain disorders. METHODS: Literature was systematically searched in Medline, Embase, Cochrane database, Web of Science, EBSCO from inception to May 2023. Only randomized controlled tria

Determinants and Effects of Vitamin D Supplementation in Postmenopausal Women: A Systematic Review.

Hormonal fluctuations, excessive clothing covering, sunscreen use, changes in body fat composition, a vitamin D-deficient diet, and a sedentary lifestyle can all predispose postmenopausal women to vitamin D deficiency. An effective supplementation plan requires a thorough understanding of underlying factors to achieve the desired therapeutic concentrations. The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the predictors that affect vitamin D status in postmenopausal women. From inception to October 2022, we searched MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and clinical trial r

A chronic auto-immune-mediated disease Psoriasis is associated with manycoexisting or co-occurringconditions, which include a significant risk of malignancies, especiallyskin tumours. Numerous studies were done to understand whether psoriasis itself, comorbidities related to psoriasis, or psoriasis treatment might increase the risk of neoplasms. We reviewed the relation between psoriasis and cancer risk, also the significance of inflammation in cancer The various classes of drugs used to treat psoriasis, including biologics like tumour necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors; and how they increase ca

Cognitive behavior therapy for adult post-traumatic stress disorder in routine clinical care: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Although different cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) have strong research support for treatment of adult post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) more knowledge is needed about the performance of CBT in routine clinical care. The present study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of CBT for PTSD in adults treated in routine clinical care. Ovid MEDLINE, Embase OVID, and PsycINFO were systematically searched for studies published until the end of May 2022. The effectiveness of CBT, methodological quality, and moderators of treatment outcome were examined, and benchmarked by meta-analytically

Functional considerations between flap and non-flap reconstruction in oral tongue cancer: A systematic review.

This systematic review aims to provide insight into the ideal reconstructive approach of the oral tongue in oral tongue cancer (OTC) by investigating the relationship between functional outcomes and the extent of tongue resection. A structured search was performed in Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science. Studies comparing patient-reported and objective measurements of the oral tongue function between flap vs. non-flap reconstruction were included. Functional outcomes of interest were speech production, deglutition efficiency, tongue mobility, overall quality of life, and postoperative comp

[Insomniac symptoms and suicidality-link and management].

BACKGROUND: A link between insomniac symptoms and suicidality has long been suspected and deserves specific attention. OBJECTIVE: We examine the current evidence for this relationship from epidemiology and neurobiology in order to propose a targeted management. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Clinical example and selective Medline-literature research for insomnia symptoms and suicidality. RESULTS: Epidemiological data and statistical analysis show that symptoms of insomnia are independent risk factors for suicidality. Neurobiological factors associated with combined insomnia symptoms and suicidality a

Surgical interventions for ingrown toenail.

BACKGROUND: Paronychia is a prevalent clinical disease affecting the soft tissue surrounding the nails. Most cases of toenail paronychia are commonly associated with ingrown toenails. While conservative treatment is effective for mild cases of ingrown toenails, surgical intervention becomes necessary for moderate to severe cases, particularly when granulomas form. OBJECTIVE: To provide a systematic understanding of these classic and modified procedures for surgeons to select the appropriate surgical interventions for patients suffering from moderate to severe ingrown toenails and discuss this

The primary aim here is to establish the impact of pre-treatment fast-growing vestibular schwannomas on the efficacy of stereotactic radiosurgery. METHODS: PubMed, Medline and Embase databases were used. The ROBINS-I ('Risk Of Bias In Non-randomised Studies - of Interventions') tool was utilised to assess for risk of bias. The impact of assistive living technology on perceived independence of people with a physical disability in executing daily activities: a systematic literature review.

PURPOSE: People with physical disabilities often require lifetime support and experience challenges to maintain or (re)define their level of independence. Assistive living technologies (ALT) are promising to increase independent living and execution of activities of daily living (ADL). This paper provides a systematic literature review that aims to analyse the present state of the literature about the impact of ALT on perceived independence of people with a physical disability receiving long-term care. Interventions That Target or Affect Voice or Speech Production During Public Speaking: A Scoping Review.

OBJECTIVES: Public speaking (PS) is frequently necessary in many professional, educational, and personal settings. Mastering this communication skill is particularly important in today's society. Training techniques for PS have been described in the literature. Given that PS anxiety affects performance, especially voice characteristics and speech fluency, the purpose of this scoping review is to examine, map, and narratively summarize the available evidence on PS interventions that target or affect voice or speech. METHODS: An extensive literature search was conducted in three bibliographic d

Silent Myocardial Ischemia Revisited, Another Silent Killer, Emphasis on the Diagnostic Value of Stress Echocardiography with Focused Update and Review.

Silent myocardial ischemia (SMI) is a relatively common phenomenon in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). The original description of SMI dates back to the 1970s. We performed an extensive search of the literature starting from 2000, using MEDLINE or PubMed, and 676 documents were analyzed, and only 45 articles found suitable for the study were selected. Data regarding the prevalence and risk factors of SMI were discussed, along with the different mechanistic processes behind it; also, methods for screening and diagnosis are exposed, namely electrocardiographic stress test, stress ech
