Abnormal phasic wave activity was noted in the biliary duct sphincter, pancreatic duct sphincter, or both in 43 patients. This abnormality consisted of a tachyrhythmia in 40 patients and absent phasic wave activity in 3 patients. Tachyrhythmia was encountered in patients with elevated basal sphincter pressures. In 19 patients, minaxolone citrate, a water-soluble steroid anaesthetic agent, has been used as a continuous infusion to supplement nitrous oxide anaesthesia. We previously established a long-lasting cystitis model by an intravesical injection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into mice. In this study, we assessed the pain-related behaviors in the cystitis model. In the present study, we have investigated the functional relationship between the nerve growth factor protein (NGF) and the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenocortical axis (HPAA). We have found that while iv injected NGF is able to stimulate the HPAA activity in rats, NGF is not able to stimulate the axis after a block of the hypothalamus produced by chlorpromazine-morphine-Nembutal treatment. The analgesic effects of various agents were evaluated in knee joint monoarthritic rats where arthritis was induced by monosodium urate (MSU) crystals injected into the knee joint cavities.
