18F-Fluoroethylcholine PET/CT Radiomic Analysis for Newly Diagnosed Prostate Cancer Patients: A Monocentric Study.

AIM: The aim of this study is to assess whether there are some correlations between radiomics and baseline clinical-biological data of prostate cancer (PC) patients using Fluorine-18 Fluoroethylcholine (18F-FECh) PET/CT. METHODS: Digital rectal examination results (DRE), Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) serum levels, and bioptical-Gleason Score (GS) were retrospectively collected in newly diagnosed PC patients and considered as outcomes of PC. Thereafter, Volumes of interest (VOI) encompassing the prostate of each patient were drawn to extract conventional and radiomic PET features. Radiomic b

[18F]FDG-PET/CT volumetric parameters can predict outcome in untreated mantle cell lymphoma.

Several studies have shown a strong predictive value for pretreatment [18F]FDG-PET/CT metabolic parameters in different lymphoma subtypes. However, few publications exist concerning the role of metabolic parameters in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). We retrospectively investigated the prognostic value of baseline metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and lesion dissemination in untreated MCL. We compared it to currently used prognostic factors such as stage, mantle cell lymphoma international prognostic index (MIPI) and KI-67. We report that a higher baseline MTV is a risk factor for worse overall survival

Blood-circulating EV-miRNAs, serum TARC, and quantitative FDG-PET features in classical Hodgkin lymphoma.

Blood-based biomarkers are gaining interest for response evaluation in classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL). However, it is unknown how blood-based biomarkers relate to quantitative 18F-FDG-PET features. We correlated extracellular vesicle-associated miRNAs (EV-miRNA), serum TARC, and complete blood count (CBC) with PET features (e.g., metabolic tumor volume [MTV], dissemination and intensity features) in 30 cHL patients at baseline. EV-miR127-3p, EV-miR24-3p, sTARC, and several CBC parameters showed weak to strong correlations with MTV and dissemination features, but not with intensity features.

Preclinical evaluation of [18F]FDG-PET as a biomarker of lymphoid tissue disease and inflammation in Zika virus infection.

PURPOSE: Zika (ZIKV) is a viral inflammatory disease affecting adults, children, and developing fetuses. It is endemic to tropical and sub-tropical countries, resulting in half the global population at risk of infection. Despite this, there are no approved therapies or vaccines against ZIKV disease. Non-invasive imaging biomarkers are potentially valuable tools for studying viral pathogenesis, prognosticating host response to disease, and evaluating in vivo efficacy of experimental therapeutic interventions. In this study, we evaluated [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG)-positron emission tomog

FDG PET in the differential diagnosis of degenerative parkinsonian disorders: usefulness of voxel-based analysis in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: The early differential diagnosis among neurodegenerative parkinsonian disorders becomes essential to set up the correct clinical-therapeutic approach. The increased utilization of [18F] fluoro-deoxy-glucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) and the pressure for cost-effectiveness request a systematic evaluation and a validation of its utility in clinical practice. This retrospective study aims to consider the contribution, in terms of increasing accuracy and increasing diagnostic confidence, of voxel-based FDG PET analyses in the differential diagnosis of these disorders, incl

Differentiation of Reversible Hemichorea Due to Vitamin B12 Deficiency From Huntington Disease Via FDG PET.

Vitamin B12 deficiency may present with diverse symptoms, complicating the differential diagnosis. Extrapyramidal movement disorders, for instance, are a rare manifestation of vitamin B12 deficiency. MRI of the brain frequently remains without conclusive findings. However, 18 F-FDG PET/CT may reveal characteristic changes in the metabolism of the basal ganglia and thus contribute to an accurate diagnosis. We demonstrate the case of a woman with left-sided hemichoreatic movements due to vitamin B12 deficiency showing a contralateral putaminal hypermetabolism, which normalized after vitamin B12

Metastatic Giant Cell Tumor Causing Small Bowel Intussusception on 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

An 89-year-old man with a history of a malignant giant cell tumor of soft parts in the right thigh with recurrent/metastatic tumor in the right pelvis was found to have pulmonary nodules concerning for metastatic disease. Subsequent PET/CT unexpectedly demonstrated a right lower quadrant intussusception with a hypermetabolic mass serving as a lead point. Pathology of the resected mass causing the intussusception was compatible with a metastasis from the patient's malignant giant cell tumor of soft parts.

Health impact assessment of pet cats caused by organohalogen contaminants by serum metabolomics and thyroid hormone analysis.

Companion animals are in close contact with the human surroundings, and there is growing concern about the effects of harmful substances on the health of pet cats. In this study, we investigated the potential health effects of organohalogen compounds (OHCs) on thyroid hormone (TH) homeostasis and metabolomics in Japanese pet cats. There was a significant negative correlation between concentrations of several contaminants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), hydroxylated PCBs (OH-PCBs), hydroxylated PBDEs (OH-PBDEs), and THs in cat serum samples. 68Ga-DOTATATE PET-Based Radiation Contouring Creates More Precise Radiation Volumes for Patients With Meningioma.

PURPOSE: Radiation treatment planning for meningiomas traditionally involves magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast enhanced images to define residual tumor. However, the gross tumor volume may be difficult to delineate for patients with a meningioma in the skull base sagittal sinus or after resection. Advanced positron emission tomography (PET) imaging using 68Ga-DOTATATE, which has been shown to be more sensitive and specific than MRI imaging, can be used for target volume delineation in these circumstances. We hypothesized that 68Ga-DOTATATE PET scan-based treatment planning would lead t

Comparison of 18 F-MFBG and 68 Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT in the Imaging of Metastatic Paraganglioma and Pheochromocytoma.

Two men with metastatic paraganglioma/pheochromocytoma underwent PET/CT examination in our hospital to understand the treatment effect and progression of the disease. Both patients had previously been treated with 131 I-MIBG, and at this evaluation, both of them underwent 68 Ga-DOTATATE and 18 F-MFBG PET/CT. The 68 Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT showed more metastases in the images of these 2 patients. This case highlighted that 68 Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT is superior to 18 F-MFBG PET/CT in detecting metastases from paraganglioma and pheochromocytoma in these 2 patients.

CT and 18F-FDG PET abnormalities in contacts with recent tuberculosis infections but negative chest X-ray.

Close contacts of individuals with pulmonary tuberculosis are at risk for tuberculosis infection and the development of active tuberculosis. In current contact investigations, immunologic tests (the tuberculin skin test and interferon-gamma release assay) and chest X-ray examinations are used to dichotomize contacts with Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections into those with active (X-ray abnormalities) versus latent tuberculosis (normal radiographs). This article is a critical review of computed tomographic (CT) and 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomographic (PET) findings of incipien

[18F]FDG PET/CT in Patients Affected by SARS-CoV-2 and Lymphoproliferative Disorders and Treated with Tocilizumab.

OBJECTIVES: Interstitial pneumonia is a severe complication induced by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Several treatments have been proposed alone or, more often, in combination, depending, also, on the presence of other organ disfunction. The most frequently related, well-described, and associated phenomenon is pan-lymphopenia with circulating, high levels of cytokines. We report, here, on two patients with COVID-19 and lymphoproliferative disorders treated with Tocilizumab (a humanized monoclonal antibody against the interleukin-6 receptor) and fol

Extension of microglial activation is associated with epilepsy and cognitive dysfunction in Tuberous sclerosis complex: A TSPO-PET study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Neuroinflammation contributes to the severity of various neurological disorders, including epilepsy. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a condition that results in the overactivation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, which has been linked to the activation of microglia responsible for neuroinflammation. To clarify the involvement of neuroinflammation in the neuropathophysiology of TSC, we performed a positron emission tomography (PET) study using the translocator protein (TSPO) radioligand, [11C] DPA713, and investigated microglial activation in r

Systemic Mastocytosis Treatment with Midostaurin: [18F]FDG PET/CT as a Potential Monitoring Tool for Therapy Outcome.

We report the case of a 68-year-old patient with diagnosed systemic mastocytosis and histopathologically confirmed manifestations in the stomach and intestinal tract who underwent 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG) positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) pre- and post-6-month therapy with midostaurin, an established tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Post-therapeutic [18F]FDG PET/CT showed decreased multifocal tracer uptake in the known lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, which was consistent with relief of the patient's symptoms and decrease in serum tryptase level. Lhermitte-Duclos Disease Related With Cowden Syndrome Mimicking Metastatic Lung Cancer on FDG PET/CT.

Cowden syndrome is characterized by multiple hamartomatous and neoplastic lesions including Lhermitte-Duclos disease, which is the main criterion for the diagnosis. Herein, we presented a patient with suspected metastatic disease referred to PET/CT, which showed mildly hypermetabolic multinodular thyroid goiter, multiple hamartomatous pulmonary, and breast nodules. Also, intense hypermetabolism was noted on the cerebellar tumor lesion. Lhermitte-Duclos disease was diagnosed based on the characteristic MRI findings, and she was followed up with a diagnosis of Cowden syndrome. Our case indicates

Development of scalable lymphatic system in the 4D XCAT phantom: Application to quantitative evaluation of lymphoma PET segmentations.

BACKGROUND: Digital anthropomorphic phantoms, such as the 4D extended cardiac-torso (XCAT) phantom, are actively used to develop, optimize, and evaluate a variety of imaging applications, allowing for realistic patient modeling and knowledge of ground truth. The XCAT phantom defines the activity and attenuation for a simulated patient, which includes a complete set of organs, muscle, bone, and soft tissue, while also accounting for cardiac and respiratory motion. However, the XCAT phantom does not currently include the lymphatic system, critical for evaluating medical imaging tasks such as sen

Cross-sectional evaluation of FGD-avid polyostotic fibrous dysplasia: MRI, CT and PET/MRI findings.

A 42-year-old male with left hip pain was diagnosed of several right femoral and tibial bone tumours. All lesions were osteolytic with sclerotic margins. The symptomatic lesion in the proximal femur also showed bone expansion and focal cortical thinning. Whole-body [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT and segmental PET/MRI of the left hip and femur were performed for metabolic characterization of the lesions and for biopsy guidance. The lesions showed a heterogenous degree of FDG uptake corresponding to different metabolic stages of the disease. A biopsy of the tumour portion showing the high

Evidence For Cannabidiol Modulation of Serotonergic Transmission in a Model of Osteoarthritis via in vivo PET Imaging and Behavioral Assessment.

BACKGROUND: Preclinical studies indicate that cannabidiol (CBD), the primary nonaddictive component of cannabis, has a wide range of reported pharmacological effects such as analgesic and anxiolytic actions; however, the exact mechanisms of action for these effects have not been examined in chronic osteoarthritis (OA). Similar to other chronic pain syndromes, OA pain can have a significant affective component characterized by mood changes. Serotonin (5-HT) is a neurotransmitter implicated in pain, depression, and anxiety. Pain is often in comorbidity with mood and anxiety disorders in patients
