INTRODUCTION: Low-energy traumatic irreducible anterior shoulder dislocations with concomitant greater tuberosity fractures in elderly females are rarely reported. The difficulty in reduction is attributed to the interplay between osseous impaction and soft tissue interposition. Three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) was utilized to delineate this combined obstruction mechanism. An open surgical approach incorporating joystick reduction techniques and preservation of the long head of the biceps tendon was implemented. To our knowledge, no systematic therapeutic protocols have been establis

PURPOSE: Retro-odontoid pseudotumor (ROP) is a condition characterized by benign soft tissue proliferation at the odontoid process due to mechanical stress in the atlantoaxial joint, often represented by atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS). However, the pathogenesis of ROP remains unclear, as AAS can also occur without ROP. The purpose of this study is to clarify the pathogenesis of ROP in patients with AAS by analyzing imaging findings in patients without rheumatoid arthritis who underwent surgery for AAS and/or ROP.
METHODS: A multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted. Patients without rhe

AIM: Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata or disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis (DPL), is a rare nosological entity characterized by multiple leiomyomas growing within the abdominal region. It is one of the uncommon manifestations of extra-uterine leiomyomas and an eventuality that can lead to diagnostic difficulties, especially in neoplastic patients. This pictorial review aims to illustrate the multimodal characteristics of DPL, providing at the same time relevant information regarding pathogenesis, clinical presentation, and treatment. Furthermore, as DPL may enter in differential di

Obstructive lung diseases, marked by airway stenosis, are chronic and pose significant mortality risks. This study aims to analyze airflow patterns in obstructed bronchi, comparing them to healthy airways during tidal breathing to improve our comprehension of disease effects on respiratory function. The current studies mostly overlook the specific morphology of the patient's upper airway or the elastic deformation of the airway soft tissues, which results in the existing results not being sufficient to effectively guide surgical treatment. In this paper, a realistic model of bronchial stenosis

BACKGROUND: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with structural and electrical remodelling of the left atrium, but in rare cases, it may occur secondary to external compression or local inflammation. Cardiac involvement of malignant lymphoma is uncommon, and its contribution to AF mechanisms remains poorly understood. We report a case of recurrent lymphoma involving the right inferior pulmonary vein (RIPV), in which pulsed field ablation (PFA) restored sinus rhythm, supported by multimodality imaging and cytological evaluation.
CASE SUMMARY: A 71-year-old man with a history of follicular l

RATIONALE: IgG4 related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic, and immune mediated chronic disease. IgG4-RD rarely presents as a bilateral renal pelvis soft tissue mass, which may be misdiagnosed as malignant urothelial tumor, leading to invasive surgical intervention and organ damage. Through the introduction of this rare case, the understanding of IgG-RD by clinicians can be increased, so as to reduce the misdiagnosis of tumor with space-occupying lesions in clinical practice, save medical resources, and reduce the unnecessary surgical burden of patients.

BACKGROUND: Plasma cell dyscrasias (PCDs) are a group of plasma cell (PC) disorders displaying heterogeneous clinical presentation. Solitary plasmacytoma (SP) is a unique entity of PCDs as the SP presentation and clinical symptoms are commonly related to the mass compression to adjacent tissue. This case report describes an isolated extramedullary SP on the frontal region in a 20-year-old Javanese male who presented with a palpable rubbery frontal mass and visual disturbances.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 20-year-old Javanese male presented to the neurosurgery clinic after being referred by the surger

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: In radiotherapy, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging has higher contrast for soft tissues compared to computed tomography (CT) scanning and does not emit radiation. However, manual annotation of the deep learning-based automatic organ-at-risk (OAR) delineation algorithms is expensive, making the collection of large-high-quality annotated datasets a challenge. Therefore, we proposed the low-cost semi-supervised OAR segmentation method using small pelvic MR image annotations.
METHODS: We trained a deep learning-based segmentation model using 116 sets of MR images from 116 pa

BACKGROUND: Maxillary sinus augmentation is one of the most performed procedures to increase the bone quantity of the atrophic maxilla to allow implant placement. The aim of the present case series was to describe a surgical protocol to perform maxillary sinus augmentation with the "bone lid technique," and its outcomes in a cohort of patients eligible for the procedure.
METHODS: After the initial clinical evaluation, a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) examination was performed for preoperative assessment. Patients were then scheduled for surgical intervention. At 6-9 months follow-up, pa

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia is associated with falls, fractures, postoperative complications such as periprosthetic joint infections and dislocations, and early mortality. Although cross-sectional imaging is currently used to diagnose sarcopenia, inexpensive and widely available screening tests are needed. The goal of this study was to investigate whether measurements of thigh muscles made on radiographs can predict psoas muscle area and the presence of sarcopenia as determined on computed tomography (CT) scans.
METHODS: A retrospective radiographic review was performed to measure thigh muscle are

INTRODUCTION: Full endoscopic spine surgery continues to spread worldwide but has a long learning curve. Conventional endoscopy training uses live pigs or human cadavers, which has disadvantages such as high costs and limited availability. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and evaluate three-dimensional (3D)-printed models for endoscopy training.
METHODS: Models for 3D printing were generated using raw imaging data from 1.0-mm slices of computed tomography scans, and each part was printed using a different colored material. The combined model was used for training as part of the full end

BACKGROUND: The foramen transversarium is a vital anatomical structure found in the cervical vertebrae of the spine. Typically, it serves as a passageway for important neurovascular structures, including the vertebral artery and vein, as well as the vertebral nerve. However, abnormal calcification or ossification of soft tissues in and around this area can lead to various clinical implications. Understanding the presence and implications of abnormal ossified structures in and around the foramen transversarium is crucial for clinicians involved in the diagnosis and management of cervical spine

INTRODUCTION: Recurrent patellar dislocation is a debilitating musculoskeletal condition, affecting mainly adolescents and adults under the age of 30. It can persist for many decades, causing pain and cartilage and soft-tissue damage, potentially leading to osteoarthritis. Recurrent patellar dislocation can be managed with physiotherapy or surgery. However, it is not known which treatment is most effective.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Recurrent Patellar Dislocation: Personalised Therapy or Operative Treatment (REPPORT) is a pragmatic, multicentre, two-arm, superiority, randomised controlled trial.
