BACKGROUND: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common disease that seriously affects human health and daily life. However, the gold standard for its diagnosis, polysomnography (PSG), is expensive resulting in inadequate diagnosis of this disease in primary clinics. Adenovirus (HAdV) infection is a common cause of illness among young children, immunocompromised patients, and transplant recipients. The majority of HAdV infections are self-limited, but recurring infection is frequently encountered in young children and may require hospitalization. OBJECTIVE: To assess subjective and objective outcomes in selected patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome who underwent microdebrider-assisted extended uvulopalatoplasty (MEUP).
DESIGN: Prospective study.
SETTING: Tertiary referral center.
PATIENTS: Fifty patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome who had substantial retropalatal obstruction and more than 10 events per hour on the respiratory disturbance index (RDI) and who underwent MEUP with 6 months of follow-up. Patients with a Friedman palate position of grade 4 and a tonsil size of grade 3 or 4 were excluded.

Six bovine tuberculosis-free red deer hinds were introduced in October 1993 to a 1.8 ha enclosure, within a larger field study site known to contain tuberculous possums, and kept there for 9 months. OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of tonsillectomy and expansion sphincter pharyngoplasty (ESP) in the surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
