AIM: To describe and understand the experiences and coping strategies of women who are survivors of child sexual abuse and are transitioning to motherhood. METHOD: We conducted a systematic review of qualitative studies according to a protocol registered in P

'What would happen if I die in a foreign country?': Cancer-related personal uncertainty and its implications for health equity among Indonesian migrant domestic workers.

BACKGROUND: Uncertainty, when perceived as a danger, can severely undermine a cancer patient’s recovery, resilience, and quality of life. Managing this uncertainty is therefore vital to well-being. While research on uncertainty and coping is growing, little attention has been given to vulnerable groups, such as migrant domestic workers (MDWs). Therefore, this study explores how Indonesian MDWs in Hong Kong experience and navigate the uncertainties arising following cancer diagnosis. METHOD: This qualitative study is based on semi-structured interviews with 12 Indonesian MDWs diagnosed with can

Illness Identity in Symptomatic Adults with Sickle Cell Disease: Preliminary Findings and Considerations.

Illness identity, or how an individual integrates their disease into their sense of self, is an important psychological concept for medical populations. According to one model, there are four proposed dimensions of illness identity: Acceptance, Rejection, Enrichment, and Engulfment. Acceptance and Enrichment describe an individual's ability to embrace their illness and regard it as a source of positive meaning-making, while Rejection and Engulfment describe an individual's inclination to disregard or be preoccupied by their illness in unhelpful ways. This study aimed to describe illness identi

Exploring spiritual needs in inflammatory bowel disease: a qualitative study protocol adopting the think-aloud method.

BACKGROUND: Spirituality may influence coping and quality of life in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), yet spiritual needs are rarely assessed systematically in routine care. The Spiritual Needs Questionnaire - Extended Version (SpNQ-EV) and the Interpretation of Illness Questionnaire (IIQ) explore spiritual needs and illness meanings but require cross-cultural adaptation and content validation for use in the Italian IBD context. METHODS: This protocol describes a qualitative questionnaire validation study using think-aloud cognitive interviews. Purposive sampling with planned heterogeneity a

Dyadic coping and multiple sclerosis: A qualitative exploration of differences between couples high and low in relationship functioning.

BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects approximately 2.8 million people worldwide. Twenty-five per cent of people with MS report that their romantic relationship is negatively affected by MS. However, partnered individuals with MS also report lower levels of disability, and several studies have found that patient and partner well-being are correlated. Therefore, examining coping with MS from a dyadic perspective is warranted. The objectives of this study were to explore (1) individual and (2) conjoint dyadic coping strategies in couples high and low in relationship functioning. METHODS:

The association between quality of life and psychological flexibility, depressive, anxiety or insomnia symptoms in patients with persistent indoor environment-related symptoms or chronic fatigue.

BACKGROUND: Persistent physical symptoms (PPS) can significantly impair health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and are often accompanied by psychiatric comorbidity. Psychological flexibility (PF), characterized by the ability to adapt functionally and congruently to diverse situations based on personal values, may play a crucial role in determining HRQoL. This study aims to examine the associations between symptoms of depression, anxiety or insomnia or PF and HRQoL among individuals with PPS associated with (i) the indoor environment (IE), (ii) chronic fatigue, or (iii) both. The Emotion Regulation Questionnaire-30 (ERQ-30): A 30-item measure of 10 clinically relevant emotion regulation strategies.

People use different strategies to regulate their emotions, and these emotion regulation patterns have important implications for mental health. For over two decades, the most widely used tool for assessing emotion regulation has been the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, a 10-item measure of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. Here, we introduce a new 30-item version-the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire-30 (ERQ-30). Built on the conceptual foundation of the process model of emotion regulation, the ERQ-30 aims to advance emotion regulation assessments by capturing a more comprehe

Oral healthcare settings can be a challenging environment for people with HIV. Combined with problematic insurance policies, insufficient health literacy, and higher treatment fees, HIV stigma contributes to barriers when accessing oral healthcare. We conducted a descriptive study via an online survey with open-ended questions to understand the experiences of people with HIV in oral healthcare settings. The survey was administered by non-governmental organizations. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data via a critical realist approach. Seventy-five participants responded to survey betw
