Role of Multi-Detector Computed Tomography Indices in Predicting Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy Outcome in Patients With Nephrolithiasis.

Background Nephrolithiasis is one of the most common renal pathologies and is routinely encountered in daily practice. Non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) is the gold standard diagnostic imaging modality for urolithiasis. The role of HU (Hounsfield units) in calculus as a predictor of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) has been studied in the past. This study aims to evaluate the role of HU value and various other NCCT indices in predicting the outcome of ESWL. Material and methods This was a prospective observational study that included 45 patients suffering from nephrolithiasis

Complications and Comorbidities in Foals Undergoing Surgical Repair for Uroperitoneum.

Surgical repair is frequently effective at resolving uroperitoneum in foals, though complications occur. Despite their occurrence, management strategies used to address these complications, and their impact on survival are not clearly defined. To better describe the complications following surgical correction of uroperitoneum and to document treatment strategies and outcomes after intervention, a multi-center retrospective case series was performed. Medical record data of foals undergoing surgical treatment for uroperitoneum were retrieved from three surgical centers, and cases identified with

Efficacy of Tamsulosin plus Tadalafil versus Tamsulosin as Medical Expulsive Therapy for Lower Ureteric Stones: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Urolithiasis is one of the common disorder with which about 1/5th is found in the ureter, of which 2/3rd is seen in the lower ureter. Medical expulsive therapy is one of the routine modalities of treatment which uses various drugs acting on the ureter smooth muscle by different mechanism. We aim to compare the efficacy of combination vs. single drug. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial was done in 176 consecutive patients over a period of six months (March 2019 to August 2019) in Department of Urology and Kidney Transplant Surgery, Tribhuvan University Teaching. Symptomatic inguinal bladder hernia causes post-renal acute kidney injury: A rare case report.

INTRODUCTION: Inguinal bladder hernia (IBH) is a rare condition representing less than 5% of all inguinal hernias. Most cases occur in elderly overweight men. Patients may present with variable symptoms such as urinary symptoms, inguinal swelling, or pain; however, most of them are asymptomatic and only less than 7% are diagnosed pre-operatively. Different radiological studies can be used if IBH suspected preoperatively including ultrasound, computed tomography scan; however, cystography is the most sensitive test for diagnosis of IBH. Open reduction and hernia repair are the standard treatmen

Anterior or posterior SWL in proximal ureteral stones opposite to 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae?

BACKGROUND: Results of SWL in treatment of upper ureteral calculi are conflicting which is definitely affected by stone locations along the proximal ureter, which is may be due to the more deep and medial course of the ureter distally over the thick and strong abdominal back wall which may hinder shock waves. METHODOLOGY: One hundred patients with radiopaque proximal ureteral stone opposite 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae who had SWL were randomized into two groups. First group had SWL through anterior belly wall in supine position with countertraction, the second group had standard posterior SW

Age, height, BMI and FBG predict prostate volume in ageing benign prostatic hyperplasia: Evidence from 5285 patients.

AIMS: Several studies have reported a potential association between prostate volume (PV) and prostate disease. Here, we classified the risk factors for PV among benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients. METHODS: In all, 4293 BPH patients with available clinical information were enrolled. Body mass index (BMI) was obtained as weight divided by height squared. PV was calculated as length × width × height (cm) × π/6. Mann-Whitney U tests were used to determine the differences between PV subgroups. Univariate and multiple linear regression tests were performed to uncover the connection between

Transurethral contact ureterolithotripsy in gas (СО2) medium.

BACKGROUND: Transurethral intracorporeal lithotripsy is the modality of choice for the endoscopic disintegration of large, long-standing, radiolucent or high-density stones. Despite several advantages and proven benefits of contact ureterolithotripsy/ureterolithoextraction (CULT), the application of irrigation carries significant risks of untoward perioperative events including retrograde stone migration and postoperative pyelonephritis. METHODS: We describe a new technique - endoscopic intracorporeal lithotripsy in the gas (СО2) medium. It is a prospective randomized, single blinded pilot st

Clinical and preclinical treatment of urologic diseases with phosphodiesterase isoenzymes 5 inhibitors: an update.

Phosphodiesterase isoenzymes 5 inhibitors (PDE5-Is) are the first-line therapy for erectile dysfunction (ED). The constant discoveries of nitric oxide (NO)/cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) cell-signaling pathway for smooth muscle (SM) control in other urogenital tracts (UGTs) make PDE5-Is promising pharmacologic agents against other benign urological diseases. This article reviews the literature and contains some previously unpublished data about characterizations and activities of PDE5 and its inhibitors in treating urological disorders. Scientific discoveries have improved our understan

Impact of colic pain as a significant factor for predicting the stone free rate of one-session shock wave lithotripsy for treating ureter stones: a Bayesian logistic regression model analysis.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to evaluate colic pain as a prognostic pretreatment factor that can influence ureter stone clearance and to estimate the probability of stone-free status in shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) patients with a ureter stone. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 1,418 patients who underwent their first SWL between 2005 and 2013. Among these patients, 551 had a ureter stone measuring 4-20 mm and were thus eligible for our analyses. The colic pain as the chief complaint was defined as either subjective flank pain during history taking
