BACKGROUND: Obesity, meaning an overweight problem, can be considered an epidemic disease that is strongly related to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Clinical studies indicate that the consumption of probiotics and prebiotics modulates the intestinal microbiota, promoting weight loss, decreasing adipose tissue and proinflammatory factors. The aim of the study was to analyze the response of the liver (transcriptomic and histology) to a dietary supplementation with probiotics and prebiotics of a murine model.
METHODS: We evaluated the liver transcriptome using an obese murine model (

Hepatic injury induced by many factors play a central role in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. Punicalagin (PUN) is a major antioxidant polyphenolic compound extracted from pomegranates. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential role of PUN on liver injury induced by nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Therefore, the effects and mechanistic action of PUN on NASH mouse model induced by choline-deficient, L-amino acid- defined, high-fat (CDAAH) diet were investigated in vivo. Wild-type or nuclear erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) KO mice were fed with CDAAH diet to induce NASH

Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MASLD) is a global health issue affecting over 30% of the population and can progress to severe liver conditions such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The progression of MASLD is driven by underlying metabolic dysregulation and chronic inflammation. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA) in a rat model of MASLD induced by a high-fat and high-fructose diet (HFrD). We hypothesize that AKBA supplementation will suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine expression and inhibit inflammatory sig

BACKGROUND: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is an increasing concern due to lifestyle changes, with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) leading to progressive liver damage, cirrhosis, and increased morbidity. The role of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, particularly the unfolded protein response (UPR) pathway, in MASH progression remains unclear. Adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ADSCs) have shown promise in regenerative therapy; however, their mechanism for alleviating MASH-induced liver damage is not fully understood. In this study, we aime

Necrotic enteritis (NE), primarily caused by Clostridium perfringens (CP) type G, poses a significant threat to broiler health and performance, especially in antibiotic-restricted production systems. Bacteriophage therapy is emerging as a promising alternative to antibiotics for controlling enteric pathogens in poultry, including CP. However, a critical knowledge gap exists in specifically determining the in vivo effects of bacteriophages combined with probiotics against CP strains associated with NE in broilers under practical conditions. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy o

UNLABELLED: Glaucoma, a multifactorial disease, currently leads the causes of irreversible blindness globally, with complex underlying pathophysiology. For a long time, decreasing intraocular pressure (IOP) has remained the desired primary outcome for each modality of glaucoma management-medical, laser, or surgical. However, the understanding of non-IOP-dependent mechanisms and the identification of additional risk factors affecting optic nerve health have extended the range of preventive and therapeutic options for tackling glaucoma in a more holistic manner. Adopting a healthy lifestyle has

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has become the most prevalent chronic liver disorder, with no approved treatment. Our previous work demonstrated the efficacy of a pan-ErbB inhibitor, Canertinib, in reducing steatosis and fibrosis in a murine fast-food diet (FFD) model of MASLD. The current study explores the effects of hepatocyte-specific ErbB1 (ie, epidermal growth factor receptor [EGFR]) deletion in the FFD model.
METHODS: EGFRflox/flox mice, treated with AAV8-TBG-CRE to delete EGFR specifically in hepatocytes (EGFR-KO), were fed either a

Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder exacerbated by the ingestion of gluten in genetically susceptible individuals, leading to intestinal inflammation and damage. This chronic disease affects approximately 1% of the world's population and is a growing health challenge due to its increasing prevalence. The development of CD is a complex interaction between genetic predispositions and environmental factors, especially gluten, culminating in a dysregulated immune response. The only effective treatment at present is a strict, lifelong gluten-free diet. However, adherence to this diet is c

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), a term encompassing various disorders affecting the heart and blood vessels, includes coronary artery disease (CAD). CAD is primarily due to the development of atherosclerotic plaques that disrupt blood flow, oxygenation, and nutrient delivery to the myocardium. Risk factors contributing to CAD progression include smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus (DM), dyslipidaemia, and obesity. While aerobic exercise (AE) has shown promising results in controlling CVD risk factors, the impact of resistance training (RT) has not been extensively investigated. This review
