The Patient Experience Divide: How Income Relates to Care Quality in the Primary Care Setting.

BACKGROUND: Income is closely linked to morbidity and mortality in the United States, potentially due in part to differences in patient experience. However, existing studies on income and care experiences are outdated and have other important limitations. METHODS: Using data from a recent national sample of adults (N=5016), we conducted a mixed-methods investigation of the relationship between income and primary care experiences. Patient experience was measured using the CAHPS Clinician and Group survey (CG-CAHPS) and its associated Narrative Item Set (NIS). Closed-ended responses were used t

Examining regional disparities in maternal and child health in Bangladesh using cluster analysis of MICS 2019 data.

Child and maternal health are crucial indicators of the health status of a country's population. However, there is a regional variability among health indicators and the availability of health services. Therefore, this study aims to explore the regional disparities in Bangladesh using maternal and child health indicators from the countrywide Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2019, focusing on maternal and child health and related socio-demographic variables across the country's 64 districts. Using a hierarchical clustering technique with Euclidean distance, the authors identified natura

Preventive adolescent health care in family practice: a program summary.

The AMA Guidelines for Adolescent Preventive Services (GAPS) has been the cornerstone of preventive care for teenagers since its publication in 1994. Despite this, there has been little documentation of their implementation in the family medicine literature. This article gives an overview of a family practice-based adolescent preventive health program based on GAPS recommendations, and reports on compliance, feasibility and health issues. A Community-Oriented Primary Care (COPC) program targeted all adolescent patients aged 12-18 years in two Israeli family practices. 321 teenagers were invite

Negative thoughts and health: associations among rumination, immunity, and health care utilization in a young and elderly sample.

OBJECTIVE: In the present study, it was tested whether rumination-negative, recurrent thoughts-would be associated with immune parameters and health care utilization. Because rumination has been associated with sadness and subjective sleep quality, it was tested whether these factors mediated the possible effects of rumination. A young sample and an elderly sample were included to test for age differences in the association between rumination and health-related measures. METHODS: A representative sample of 196 young subjects (20 to 35 years) and 314 elderly subjects (70 to 85 years) completed

Risk factors of nutritional blindness and determinants of a successful vitamin A prophylaxis programme.

Data on 7668 children (0-72 months) and their 4621 mothers and 81 Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) collected for the USAID Assisted ICDS Evaluation Surveys were analysed. The results indicated that the major risk factors of nutritional blindness were lack of nutrition and health knowledge among mothers; presence of iron deficiency anemia in the children; and history of the child having had measles in the past one year. Mother's health and nutrition, knowledge and maternal literacy status were the determinants of the success of a vitamin A prophylaxis programme. Factors that determined AWW's performanc

Patterns of multiple health risk-behaviours in university students and their association with mental health: application of latent class analysis.

INTRODUCTION: University and college campuses may be the last setting where it is possible to comprehensively address the health of a large proportion of the young adult population. It is important that health promoters understand the collective challenges students are facing, and to better understand the broader lifestyle behavioural patterning evident during this life stage. The purpose of this study was to examine the clustering of modifiable health-risk behaviours and to explore the relationship between these identified clusters and mental health outcomes among a large Canadian university

Health and illness representations of workers with a musculoskeletal disorder-related work disability during work rehabilitation: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Distinctions between disease and illness have been criticized for being too theoretical. In practice, however, it may help explain gaps in understanding and miscommunication between health care professionals and patients/injured workers, since each has their own perception of reality. To reduce the gap between health care professionals and patients in understanding the definition of disease, this paper documents general representations of health, illness and work-related musculoskeletal disorders and their influence on the work rehabilitation program. METHODS: A qualitative meth

Do teachers have more health problems? Results from a French cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Although only a few studies have been published on teachers' health, certain ideas are widely accepted, such as for example, the preconceived notion that teachers suffer from an excessively high rate of mental health problems. The objective of this study is to compare teachers' mental and physical health to that of a control group. METHODS: A cross-sectional postal survey was conducted among a sample of 3,679 teachers and 1,817 non-teachers aged 20 to 60 years old. RESULTS: No lifetime prevalence of any psychiatric disorder (with the exception of undifferentiated somatoform disor

Do men and women define health differently? A cross-national study of gender differences in self-rated health.

INTRODUCTION: Self-rated health (SRH) is a common measure for examining gender differences in health. However, it is unclear if men and women assess similar health factors in their ratings, particularly outside the US. This study expands on previous research in Germany, Italy, and Sweden-countries with varying gender norms. METHODS: We analyze how chronic conditions, mental health, physical functioning, and health behaviors affect SRH ratings among 50,912 respondents aged 50-79, using panel data from SHARE and HRS and random effects multinomial logistic models. RESULTS: Our findings indicate
