To present a young immunocompetent patient with a fourth ventricle tuberculoma without pulmonary tuberculosis. A previously healthy young male patient presented with a history of headache, nausea, and blurred vision. Neuroimaging revealed a mass present in the fourth ventricle. The lesion was successfully resected. Histological and microbiological findings suggested the presence of a tuberculoma. Tuberculomas can be found in the posterior fossa in adults. This infectious pathology should not be forsaken when considering the differential diagnosis for infratentorial masses.

Interpeduncular heterotopia is a new neuroimaging finding reported in association with Joubert syndrome (JS) in a few cases in the literature. Nodular interpeduncular tissue was termed as interpeduncular heterotopia and anterior mesencephalic cap dysplasia in the literature in relation to gray and white matter content. We described the imaging findings and diffusion tensor imaging data of a case with interpeduncular heterotopia and brain stem cleft. This is the first case, in which interpeduncular heterotopia was an isolated finding not associated with JS.

Little is known about the neurobiological effects of psychotropic medications used in the treatment of children and adolescents diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder. This review provides a synopsis of the literature demonstrating the neural effects associated with exposure to psychotropic medication in youth using multimodal neuroimaging. The article concludes by illustrating how, taken together, these studies suggest that pharmacological interventions during childhood do indeed affect brain structure and function in a detectable manner, and the effects appear to be ameliorative.

Horner syndrome can be caused by a variety of etiologies that interrupt the sympathetic innervation of the eye, including but not limited to central mass lesions. Recently, it has been debated whether neuroimaging has a place in the diagnostic algorithm of isolated pediatric Horner syndrome given the low incidence of neuroblastoma. We present a case of a 19-month-old girl with an isolated Horner syndrome, likely caused by a lower cervical syrinx, that was diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging.

Palinopsia, or perseveration of a previously viewed image, may be caused by drug use or by posterior visual pathway lesions. Most cases of palinopsia due to visual pathway lesions have an associated homonymous hemianopic visual field defect. We report two patients with palinopsia caused by structural lesions of the posterior visual pathway in the absence of visual field defects. Patients with palinopsia should undergo neuroimaging even in the presence of normal visual fields.

There is a wide differential diagnosis for patients presenting with multiple cranial nerve palsies, including infectious, inflammatory, malignant, genetic, toxic, and metabolic conditions. This report describes the clinical features, neuroimaging findings, and response to surgical treatment in a patient with bilateral deafness and recurrent episodes of bilateral facial nerve palsy that were caused by renal osteodystrophy. It is suggested that renal osteodystrophy be considered in the differential diagnosis of multiple cranial nerve palsies in the appropriate clinical setting.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a prevalent condition among older adults that carries a high risk of progression to Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. Given the potential for delaying or preventing the onset of dementia, efforts aimed at early detection and early intervention are important. The current paper reviews the conceptualization and diagnosis of MCI, assessment of memory complaints and deficits in the elderly, as well as recent research on the neurobiological basis of the disorder, including neurochemical, structural, and functional neuroimaging findings.

We report a case of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) causing isolated hypoglossal nerve palsy. The neuroimaging appearance of the tumor was indistinguishable from that of schwannoma or meningioma. Immunohistochemical tests demonstrated strong reactivity for CD34 but an absence of staining for S100 and epithelial membrane antigen; this profile is indicative of an SFT. SFTs are mesenchymal tumors that can affect the dura-covered segments of cranial nerves. They may be considered in the differential diagnosis of an isolated cranial nerve palsy.

Neurological deterioration during an episode of diabetic ketoacidosis is usually assumed to be caused by cerebral oedema. We present a case of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis presenting in a similar manner, also associated with severe iron deficiency anaemia. Computed tomography scanning provided the correct diagnosis and allowed institution of anticoagulation with improvement in neurological outcome. Neuroimaging should always be performed in suspected cerebral oedema associated with diabetic ketoacidosis in order to exclude other pathologies.

The preoperative evaluation of patients with suspected cortical dysplasia involves detailed neurologic and neuropsychologic evaluations, electroencephalography, and comprehensive neuroimaging and functional studies. The goal is to identify a focal region of seizure onset and to assess for motor impairments, speech and language difficulties, or developmental delay. Although the electroencephalogram abnormalities in cortical dysplasia are nonspecific, they typically include unusual high-amplitude (slowing and focal) activity. The association of cortical dysplasia with cardiovascular, dermatologi

A child with unilateral Duane retraction syndrome developed signs and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure at 3 1/2 years of age. Neuroimaging disclosed a fourth ventricular ependymoma compressing but not invading the floor of the fourth ventricle. The coexistence of Duane syndrome and fourth ventricular ependymoma in a young child raises the possibility that both conditions could have resulted from a mutational event or focus of cellular disorganization (i.e. field defect) localized to the dorsal pons.

Congenital cerebellar atrophy associated with a non-progressive cerebellar syndrome and mild cognitive retardation is described in seven cases, four of them familial. Their occurrence is consistent with an autosomal recessive inheritance. Clinical and neuroimaging data seem to exclude supratentorial changes. Even though it is not possible to definitely rule out a possible role of the forebrain in determining the mental defect, the neuropsychological study supplies arguments stressing the relationship between cerebellar defect and cognitive development.

This article reviews diseases for which persistent signal abnormalities on diffusion-weighted imaging are the key to their diagnosis. Specifically, updated knowledge regarding the neuroimaging patterns of the following diseases is summarized: sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease, and hereditary diffuse leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids-colony-stimulating factor receptors/adult-onset leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids and pigmented glia. In addition, their differential diagnoses; clinical manifestations; and pathologic, genetic, and imaging

A young man with normal neurodevelopment presented with 3 years of medically refractory, progressive epilepsy and myoclonus. Initial examination included neuroimaging, electroencephalography, and biochemical analyses, all of which were unremarkable except for mildly enlarged ventricles. Over the following year, the patient experienced rapid cognitive decline with new-onset recurrent visual hallucinations and progressive lethargy. Results of subsequent electroencephalography and brain imaging were unchanged, and a fluorodeoxyglucose F 18 positron emission tomographic scan was normal.

We report for the first time a patient with childhood-onset Tourette's syndrome (TS) who developed alexia without agraphia, acalculia, visual agnosia for objects and faces, and preserved mnesic functions in older age. Neuroimaging studies demonstrated temporo-parieto-occipital cortical atrophy and fronto-temporo-parieto-occipital hypometabolism, both more prominent on the left side. This case fulfils the diagnostic criteria of posterior cortical atrophy (PCA). The possible link between TS and PCA is discussed.

We report a case of a 64 year-old man whose clinical presentation and neuroimaging findings strikingly resembled those found in Takayasu's Arteritis which is characterized by the triad of absent radial pulses, ischemic retinopathy, and carotid sinus hyperreflexia causing syncopes. Angiographically, the patient exhibited severe atherosclerotic changes of the supraaortic large vessels. Stent-assisted angioplasty resulted in both clinical improvement and increased cerebral blood flow as measured by angiography and ultrasound.

A 78-year-old female presented with a nontraumatic acute subdural hematoma (ASDH) caused by hemorrhage from a cavernous angioma located on the convexity dura mater. The hematoma and angioma were removed successfully. Neuroimaging performed 2 years previously had not revealed cavernous angioma. The angioma most likely grew rapidly over the 2 year period, during which she had received oral antiplatelet medication. Nontraumatic ASDH may originate from a cavernous angioma which grows rapidly.

Motivated by recent development of tensor regression modeling, we propose a novel tensor ensemble learning (TEL) approach. While CANDECOMP/PARAFAC (CP) decomposition is an efficient technique to reduce the number of parameters in tensor covariate, determining an appropriate CP rank remains uncertain in practice. Furthermore, the structural complexity of tensor often varies across different spatial regions. To explore the intrinsic tensor structure, we design different tensor partition strategies and divide tensor into disjoint blocks to form candidate models. A model ensemble method is then de

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that severely affects memory, cognition, and behavioral functions, making early and accurate stage classification essential for timely clinical intervention and treatment planning. Conventional MRI-based diagnostic approaches are often limited by noise sensitivity, manual interpretation, and insufficient capability to model complex non-linear neuroimaging relationships across multiple disease stages. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel Hybrid Quantum-Classical Spike-Driven Network optimized with the Bobc

BACKGROUND: Cardiac arrest (CA) is associated with high mortality and neurological morbidity, mainly due to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Accurate neurological prognostication in CA survivors is essential to guide therapeutic decisions and provide appropriate care.
OBJECTIVE: To review the current evidence on neurological prognostication after CA and to propose an institutional protocol adapted to the resources of Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA).
METHODS: The current narrative review was conducted in two stages: a literature review and the development of an institutional proto
