A pooled analysis of injection site-related adverse events in patients with schizophrenia treated with olanzapine long-acting injection.

BACKGROUND: Depot antipsychotic injections are an important tool for the management of patients with schizophrenia who have difficulty with adherence to oral medication. However, pain and discomfort at the injection site can be a potential impediment to the use of these long-acting formulations. We report here the results of a pooled analysis of injection site-related adverse events (AEs) collected during treatment with the olanzapine long-acting injection (olanzapine LAI). METHODS: Unsolicited injection site-related AEs were pooled from 7 olanzapine LAI clinical trials conducted in patients

Effects of low-temperature flea maintenance on the transmission of Yersinia pestis by Oropsylla montana.

Yersinia pestis, the causative agent of plague, is primarily a rodent-associated, flea-borne zoonosis maintained in sylvatic foci throughout western North America. Transmission to humans is mediated most commonly by the flea vector Oropsylla montana and occurs predominantly in the southwestern United States. With few exceptions, previous studies showed O. montana to be an inefficient vector at transmitting Y. pestis at ambient temperatures, particularly when such fleas were fed on susceptible hosts more than a few days after ingesting an infectious blood meal. We examined whether holding fleas

Using capture-recapture methods to better ascertain the incidence of fatal child maltreatment.

OBJECTIVES: To (1) test the use of capture-recapture methods to estimate the total number of child maltreatment deaths in a single state using information from death certificates, child welfare reports, child death review teams, and uniform crime reports; and to (2) compare these estimates to the number of maltreatment deaths identified through an in-depth "gold standard" review. METHODS: Child maltreatment deaths were identified in four existing administrative data sources: (1) death reports in our state vital statistics (DC); (2) child death review team reports (CDR); (3) homicide reports f

Development of the ECMO nursing self-efficacy Perception scale: A validity and reliability study.

Caring for patients receiving ECMO in the ICU is a complex process that requires advanced knowledge, technical skills, and confident clinical decision-making from nurses. Despite the increasing use of ECMO in Türkiye, no comprehensive, validated tool exists to measure ICU nurses' self-efficacy in ECMO care. This methodological study aimed to develop the ECMO Nursing Self-Efficacy Perception Scale (ECMO-SEPS) and evaluate its psychometric properties. The scale was developed in two stages. In the first stage, an item pool was generated through an extensive literature review and qualitative inter

Older adults' evaluations of smart home control screen designs: Appearance dimensions and behavioral intentions in a multi-stage study.

In age-friendly home environments, control screens provide a point of contact between users and smart home systems, and their appearance may shape initial evaluations of these systems. This exploratory study used a multi-stage design to investigate older adults' appearance evaluations and behavioral-intention patterns across different screen designs. Similarity judgments provided by 15 experts were examined using multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis, from which eight representative designs were selected from the original pool of 87 samples. Three independent groups of older adults too

Invasive versus conservative management in infective endocarditis after transcatheter aortic valve implantation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Infective endocarditis after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI-IE) is an uncommon but severe complication associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Therapeutic strategies vary widely, since invasive management is often precluded by prohibitive risk and conservative medical therapy may be linked to poorer outcomes. Therefore, we aimed to compare outcomes between conservative and invasive management in patients with TAVI-IE. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science identified comparative studies evaluating conservative versus invasive

Learning to Expect Less: An Ecological Momentary Assessment Study of Prediction Errors, Reward Anticipation, and Negative Symptoms in Daily Lives of People with Schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESES: The brain continuously generates predictions about future experiences. When outcomes deviate from expectations, positive (+RPE) and negative (-RPE) reward prediction errors recalibrate predictions. Neuroimaging evidence indicates that amotivation in schizophrenia-spectrum disorders (SSD) is linked to blunted processing of +RPEs. Yet the nature of RPEs and their processing in the everyday lives of people with SSD remains unknown. STUDY DESIGN: This preregistered analysis pooled data from two studies (N = 147; SSD = 68, healthy controls [HC] = 79) to quantify daily-li

Modern Era in Personalized Medicine of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy After Myocardial Revascularization.

Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with aspirin and a P2Y12 inhibitor remains the cornerstone of antithrombotic management after myocardial revascularization. However, the traditional "one-size-fits-all" approach to DAPT duration and intensity fails to account for marked interindividual variability in drug response-driven by genetic polymorphisms, notably CYP2C19 variants like CYP2C19*2, which reach a frequency of up to 75% in specific groups like the Melanesian population-comorbidities such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease, and dynamic clinical factors including age and concomitant medica

Prognostic Value of Liver Metastases and KRAS Mutations in Patients With Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: A Pooled Analysis of Third-Line Placebo-Controlled Trials From the ARCAD CRC Database.

BACKGROUND: KRAS mutations in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) are a factor of poor prognosis, partly because of associated resistance to anti-EGFR therapies. Liver metastases (LM) were also described as a factor of poor prognosis. This study aims to compare the outcomes of patients treated in third-line setting with placebo or Trifluridine/Tipiracil or regorafenib (TToR) and to assess the impact of LM and KRAS mutations on prognosis. METHODS: Data were pooled from five placebo-controlled randomized trials of the ARCAD CRC database (CORRECT, RECOURSE, CONCUR, TERRA, and J003). Overall surv

Development and Psychometric Testing of the Patient Safety Scale for Home Peritoneal Dialysis (PD-PSS).

BACKGROUND: Home-based peritoneal dialysis treatment offers greater autonomy and flexibility. However, it also introduces unique patient safety risks. Despite these risks, there is no validated tool to assess patient safety in home settings. OBJECTIVES: To develop and validate a scale to assess environmental, behavioral, and procedural safety risks in peritoneal dialysis (PD). METHODS: This study was conducted with 600 patients across eight hospitals. Selection and evaluation of DNase I hypersensitive sites for prenatal screening of trisomy 21 in the fetus.

This study introduces a novel approach for noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) of chromosomal abnormalities, based on analysis of epigenetic features in circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA). The core innovation of our method leverages fundamental differences in chromatin organization between maternal and fetal cells. Specifically, we focused on genomic regions that exhibit open chromatin configuration in maternal blood cells but remain tightly packed in fetal tissues (DNase I hypersensitive sites or DHSs). These epigenetic differences create distinct cfDNA fragmentation signatures that allow sele
