Self-esteem, peer pressure, and demographic predictors of attitude toward premarital sexual practice among first-year students of Woldia University: Implications for psychosocial intervention.

Adolescence is s period of storm and stress mainly caused by dramatic social, emotional, biological, and psychological changes. Unless supported and guided by parents, teachers, peers, and other stakeholders, they may be exposed to a variety of risky sexual behaviors. In the study area, there is no research work showing the influences of peers, self-esteem, and demographic factors on the premarital sexual practice among students. Ideas and knowledge gained in this area will enable the delivery of effective health and psychosocial intervention strategies. Thus, the objectives of this research w

Impact of respite care on health-related quality of life in children with medical complexity: A parent proxy evaluation.

PURPOSE: This study examined the impact of respite care received by children with medical complexity (CMC) on their health-related quality of life (HRQOL). We hypothesized that out-of-home respite care would increase both opportunities to engage in activities and participation with non-family members and help with acquiring autonomy and social skills. DESIGN AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study of CMC aged between 8 and 18 years living at home used a web-based questionnaire survey that parents living with the target CMC answered for proxy evaluation of CMC's HRQOL (KIDSCREEN-27). We asked

Health care professionals' understanding of contraindications for physical activity advice in the setting of stem cell transplantation.

PURPOSE: Most patients receiving a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) are able to tolerate and benefit from physical activity (PA). Therefore, it is important that health care professionals (HCPs) advise patients to perform PA before, during, and after transplantation. By understanding which medical conditions and safety issues are associated with the (non-) promotion of PA, concrete actions and interventions can be planned and implemented. METHODS: Physicians (N = 51), nurses (N = 52), and physical therapists (N = 26) participated in a nationwide cross-sectional online survey. HC

Whole Body, Whole Life, Whole Family: Patients' Perspectives on X-Linked Hypophosphatemia.

The rare genetic disorder X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is often exclusively considered to impact children, and, as such, adult patients with XLH may receive inadequate care because their symptoms are not associated with XLH. However, studies have shown that XLH has long-term adverse health consequences that continue throughout adulthood requiring comprehensive lifelong care. Indeed, XLH impacts patients' whole body, whole life, and whole family. XLH does not just affect the bones; symptoms are chronic and progressive, worsening throughout adulthood, and the burden of XLH overflows into the

Barriers and facilitators of type 1 diabetes self-care in adolescents and young adults.

PURPOSE: This study explores the disease experience of adolescents and young adults with T1DM focusing on the barriers and facilitators that characterise their disease self-care. Self-care requires complex decision making and cooperation between patients, their families, the healthcare team, and the social support system. Personal and social factors affect self-care, and specific challenges impact adolescents and young adults, putting them at a higher risk of poor glycaemic control and more severe complications. DESIGN AND METHODS: The study uses a qualitative description approach. Twenty-two

Developing consensus on core outcome domains for assessing effectiveness in perioperative pain management: results of the PROMPT/IMI-PainCare Delphi Meeting.

Postoperative pain management is still insufficient, leading to major deficits, including patient suffering, impaired surgical recovery, long-term opioid intake, and postsurgical chronic pain. Yet, identifying the best treatment options refers to a heterogeneous outcome assessment in clinical trials, not always reflecting relevant pain-related aspects after surgery and therefore hamper evidence synthesis. Establishing a core outcome set for perioperative pain management of acute pain after surgery may overcome such limitations. An international, stepwise consensus process on outcome domains ("

Views of Dutch general practitioners about premenstrual symptoms: A qualitative interview study.

BACKGROUND: General practitioners (GPs) encounter women suffering from premenstrual symptoms. Often women with premenstrual problems experience little understanding from GPs. Views of GPs will influence their approach to these women and their care. Insight into these views is lacking but could help in designing educational programmes for GPs. OBJECTIVES: To explore the views of Dutch GPs towards aetiology, diagnostic process, and preferred treatment of premenstrual symptoms. METHODS: In 2017, we conducted a qualitative, semi-structured, interview survey among 27 GPs, varying in age, gender,
