Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma of Uterine Corpus in a Young Female: A Case Report With Review of Literature.

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare soft tissue sarcoma, often occurs in adolescents and young adults with a particular predilection for the deep soft tissue of extremities. Occurrence of ASPS in the female genital tract is very uncommon and poses a significant diagnostic challenge. A case of ASPS of the uterine corpus is described in a young unmarried female, who presented to the out-patient clinic of our Institute with complaints of abnormal uterine bleeding for the past 9 mo. She was being treated with oral contraceptive pills, progesterone and tranexamic acid. Following radiologica

Synovial sarcoma of the transverse colon metastatic to the chest wall after 3 years of follow-up.

We report a fifth case of a transverse colon primary synovial sarcoma. A 31-year-old man with history of grade I obesity presented to an outpatient clinic reporting 6 months of intermittent colicky abdominal pain associated with haematochezia and rectal bleeding. Colonoscopy reported a partially obstructive intraluminal tumour lesion located in the transverse colon. There was no evidence of metastatic disease in the extension studies, so the patient was admitted to the hospital for a laparoscopic subtotal colectomy. Histopathology demonstrated intermediate-grade synovial sarcoma. At the third

A rare case of synovial sarcoma with lung, heart and adrenal gland metastasis: a caution for patients and clinicians.

A 68-year-old man presented to the Urology Clinic, West China Hospital, Chengdu, with a suspected right adrenal gland mass that had persisted for two months. He had no associated lumbodynia, dizziness or palpitation. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed an uneven density and contrast-enhanced oval-like mass with smooth edges in the right adrenal gland. Laparoscopic right adrenal gland resection followed by histopathology confirmed a diagnosis of metastatic synovial sarcoma. The patient had a history of synovial sarcoma on the right upper leg 3 years previously that was surgically treate

Myeloid sarcoma of the colon as initial presentation in acute promyelocytic leukemia: A case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) rarely occurs in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) at onset, but it can develop in relapse cases, especially after APL treated with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA). Therefore little is known about the clinical features and suitable treatment for APL related MS due to the rarity of the disease, although this may be different from the treatment and prognosis of MS in the relapse stage. To our best knowledge, this is the second case report of APL initial presentation as colon MS. CASE SUMMARY: A 77-year-old woman complained of intermittent right lower abdominal p

Small bowel and lung histiocytic sarcoma revealed by acute peritonitis: A case report with review of literature.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignant neoplasm showing morphologic and immunohistochemical features of histiocytes. It is characterized typically by extranodal presentation and a poor clinical course, particularly in cases with disseminated disease. CASE PRESENTATION: This report documents a case of bifocal and aggressive HS in small bowel and lung revealed by acute peritonitis in a 63-year-old man. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Despite its rarity, we believe that the correct diagnosis of HS is crucial for clinical treatment and prognostic prediction. CONCLUSION:

Beyond T Staging in the "Treat-All" Era: Severity and Heterogeneity of Kaposi Sarcoma in East Africa.

BACKGROUND: Although many patients with Kaposi sarcoma (KS) in sub-Saharan Africa are diagnosed with AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) T1 disease, T1 staging insufficiently captures clinical heterogeneity of advanced KS. Using a representative community-based sample, we detailed disease severity at diagnosis to inform KS staging and treatment in sub-Saharan Africa. METHODS: We performed rapid case ascertainment on people living with HIV, aged 18 years or older, newly diagnosed with KS from 2016 to 2019 at 3 clinic sites in Kenya and Uganda to ascertain disease stage as close as possible to di

Prognostic factors for laryngeal sarcoma and nomogram development for prediction: a retrospective study based on SEER database.

BACKGROUND: Laryngeal sarcoma is an extremely rare malignant tumor of larynx and usually reported as case reports or small series. At present, there is no research based on big data about the prognostic factors affecting laryngeal sarcoma. Our study aimed to investigate the prognostic survival factors of laryngeal sarcoma and develop a comprehensive nomogram for predicting the survival of laryngeal sarcoma. METHODS: Data were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to find patients diagnosed with laryngeal sarcoma from 1998 to 2016. The data were obtained

Pleomorphic dermal sarcoma: a retrospective study of 16 cases in a dermato-oncology centre and a review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Relatively little is known about the true aggressive potential of pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS) or optimal management strategies. OBJECTIVE: To describe the outcomes of 16 cases of PDS treated at our hospital (14 with modified Mohs micrographic surgery [M-MMS] and two with conventional surgery) and establish an adequate plan for management. MATERIALS & METHODS: We reviewed 16 PDS cases treated at our hospital between October 2007 and June 2019 and compared our results with the available evidence. RESULTS: In total, 69% of cases had recurred after initial conventional surgery,

Does iatrogenic tumor rupture during surgery have prognostic implications for the outcome of uterine sarcomas?

OBJECTIVE: Tumor rupture during surgery is a risk factor for recurrence of sarcomas in other locations. However, the independent impact of rupture on prognosis is uncertain in uterine sarcomas. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether uterine rupture impacts outcomes in patients with uterine sarcoma. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was carried out of all consecutive patients with uterine sarcoma managed at the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Insular-Materno Infantil of the Canary Islands, Spain between January 1990 and December 2016. An extremely rare elderly case of proximal epithelioid sarcoma of the vulva: case report with a review of literatures.

We experienced an extremely rare case of proximal epithelioid sarcoma (PES) of the vulva in a 77-year-old woman. After history taking and physical examination, the patient was tentatively diagnosed as having Bartholin's cyst in the right labium. Based on histopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) findings, however, a final diagnosis of PES of the vulva was made. After receiving CyberKnife treatment, the patient survived but with recurrent episodes and poor prognosis. In conclusion, our case indicates that patients with PES of the vulva should be appropriately managed with radiotherapy aft

Retrospective review of the activity and safety of apatinib and anlotinib in patients with advanced osteosarcoma and soft tissue sarcoma.

Background Previous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of apatinib and anlotinib for the treatment of sarcomas. However, more clinical data and evidence are needed to support clinical treatment selection and study design. Here, we evaluated the effectiveness and safety of these two drugs for the treatment of sarcomas. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the data of 110 patients with advanced osteosarcoma (n = 32) or soft tissue sarcoma (STS, n = 78) who received oral apatinib or anlotinib therapy during May 2016-February 2019 at two centers. Patients were divided into the apatinib and anlo

A Rare Case of Round Cell Sarcoma with CIC-DUX4 Mutation Mimicking a Phlegmon: Review of Literature.

BACKGROUND Undifferentiated small blue round cell sarcomas with CIC-DUX4 translocation differ morphologically and in clinical outcomes from other types of sarcoma. Although classified by the World Health Organization as undifferentiated sarcomas, it is unclear whether these tumors are variants of Ewing's sarcoma or a distinct entity. This report describes a round cell sarcoma with CIC-DUX4 translocation that presented clinically as a phlegmon. CASE REPORT A 31-year-old African American man presented with a mass in the right upper abdominal quadrant. Examination at a local hospital suggested an

Disseminated Kaposi's sarcoma as a presenting sign of HIV in an Indian male: A case report with dermoscopic findings.

Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is one of the AIDS-defining illnesses, which tends to occur at low CD4 count. It is the most common malignancy associated with HIV disease. Yet, there is a paucity of Indian case reports of KS in the English literature. We report the case of a 45-year-old HIV-positive heterosexual male with an unusual presentation of KS in the form of unilateral lymphedema mimicking cellulitis. We also describe the dermoscopic findings of the same.

Clinical characteristics and management of primary granulocytic sarcoma of the oral cavity: A case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Granulocytic sarcoma (GS) is a commonly occurring tumor comprising immature myeloid cells, which are usually related to acute or chronic myelocytic leukemia. The tumor rarely precedes leukemia without bone marrow involvement and is called primary GS. Although primary GS can occur in any body part, the involvement of the oral cavity is uncommon. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 49-year-old woman hospitalized at the Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery presented with a growing mass in her left maxillary hard palate dating two months back. No obvious physical findings were noted duri

Paraplegia after transcatheter artery chemoembolization in a child with clear cell sarcoma of the kidney: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a common treatment for inoperable malignant renal tumors. However, a series of complications may follow the TACE treatment. Spinal cord injury caused by the embolization of intercostal or lumbar arteries is extremely rare. CASE SUMMARY: We describe a case with quite uncommon spinal cord injury after TACE in a 3-year-old child with clear cell sarcoma of the kidney. Sensory impairment beneath the T10 dermatomes and paraplegia on the day after TACE were found in this patient. Unfortunately, sustained paraplegia still existed for more

Post-amputation neuroma of radial nerve in a patient with ephitelioid sarcoma: case report and literature review.

Neuroma, also known as traumatic neuroma or amputation neuroma or stump neuroma, is a focal non neoplastic area of proliferative hyperplastic reaction secondary to peripheral nerve damage that commonly occurs after a focal trauma (acute or chronic) or surgery, such as amputation or partial transection. Neuromas are more commonly located in the lower limbs, followed by head and neck; other extremely rare sites include the ulnar nerve followed by the radial nerve and the brachial plexus. A radiologic plan is necessary to recognize soft tissue lesions with a neural origin and whether they are a t

Myeloid sarcoma, chloroma, or extramedullary acute myeloid leukemia tumor: A tale of misnomers, controversy and the unresolved.

The World Health Organization classification and definition of "myeloid sarcoma" is imprecise and misleading. A more accurate term is "extramedullary acute myeloid leukemia tumor (eAML)." The pathogenesis of eAML has been associated with aberrancy of cellular adhesion molecules, chemokine receptors/ligands and RAS-MAPK/ERK signaling. eAML can present with or without synchronous or metachronous intramedullary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) so a bone marrow evaluation is always recommended. Accurate diagnosis of eAML requires tissue biopsy. eAML confined to one or a few sites is frequently treated

PD-1 blockade for disseminated Kaposi sarcoma in a patient with atopic dermatitis and chronic CD8 lymphopenia.

We describe a 53-year-old male patient with a history of long-standing atopic dermatitis (AD) who presented with disseminated Kaposi sarcoma (KS). Although he never had received long-term immunosuppressive treatment for his AD, he had a 16-year history of CD8 lymphopenia. Because of his heavily pretreated progressive KS in lymph nodes and soft tissues, we treated the patient using pembrolizumab 2 mg/kg body weight 3-weekly. On PET-computed tomography 3-months after the initiation of pembrolizumab therapy, a solid treatment response was detected in all tumor sites - 6-months later a mixed respo

Disseminated Endometriosis and Low-Grade Endometrioid Stromal Sarcoma in a Patient with a History of Uterine Morcellation for Adenomyosis.

Morcellation of benign uterine tumors allows for removal of the tumors via minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures. However, in rare cases, morcellation has been associated with upstaging of unexpected malignancies. Morcellation has also been associated with dissemination of benign pathologic processes such as endometriosis and leiomyomas. Endometrial stromal sarcoma typically arises in the uterine cavity, although cases of extrauterine endometrioid stromal sarcoma arising out of foci of endometriosis have been reported. Dissemination of endometrial stromal sarcomas can be an unintended con
