Co-Development of a Web Application (COVID-19 Social Site) for Long-Term Care Workers ("Something for Us"): User-Centered Design and Participatory Research Study.

BACKGROUND: Improving confidence in and uptake of COVID-19 vaccines and boosters among long-term care workers (LTCWs) is a crucial public health goal, given their role in the care of elderly people and people at risk. While difficult to reach with workplace communication interventions, most LTCWs regularly use social media and smartphones. Various social media interventions have improved attitudes and uptake for other vaccines and hold promise for the LTCW population. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to develop a curated social web application (interactive website) to increase COVID-19 vaccine confidence

The effect a of community-based social marketing campaign on recruitment and retention of low-income groups into physical activity programmes - a controlled before-and-after study.

BACKGROUND: The beneficial effect of physical activity for the prevention of a range of chronic diseases is widely acknowledged. These conditions are most prevalent in low-income groups where physical activity levels are consistently lower. Social marketing is the government's recommended approach to promoting physical activity but evidence of its effectiveness is limited. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a social marketing campaign on the monthly recruitment, attendance and retention levels at a community-based physical activity programme in a low income area. METHODS:

Intersecting Burdens: Pain and Psychosocial Stressors in Women with HIV and Type 2 Diabetes - Insights from the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: HIV has transitioned into a chronic condition often accompanied by multimorbidity, including type 2 diabetes (T2D). Women with HIV (WWH) and T2D face elevated risks for depression, loneliness, and reduced social support. Pain-a common and burdensome symptom in both conditions-remains underexamined despite its potential to exacerbate psychosocial challenges and diminish quality of life. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using data from the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS), focusing on the Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS) subset. Self-reported measures in

Impacts of Knowledge and Familiarity on Differences in Explicit Stigma and Implicit Biases Toward Autism Across France.

Autistic people frequently experience stigma that can be expressed whether consciously or unconsciously. This study examined how familiarity with autistic people, factual knowledge about autism, sociodemographic characteristics, and cultural value orientations relate to three facets of autism stigma: desired social distance, stereotypical beliefs, and implicit bias. French adults (N = 277) completed online measures of autism knowledge, familiarity, social distance, and stereotypes, a cultural orientation scale, and an Implicit Association Test assessing automatic evaluations of autism. Results

Caring amid crisis: a qualitative study of caregivers' experiences, wellbeing, and support for older adults.

BACKGROUND: Unpaid caregivers are a critical yet structurally under-recognized component of health and social care systems, providing essential support to older adults living with chronic illness, frailty, and complex care needs. Although caregiving challenges predate COVID-19, the pandemic intensified reliance on unpaid care and exposed persistent gaps in system coordination, service access, and caregiver support. This study examines how unpaid caregivers in Ontario, Canada, retrospectively understand caregiving during and following this period, with attention to how health and social care sy

Lived Experiences, Social Support Systems, and Coping Mechanisms Among Parenting Adolescents With Depression in Southwestern Uganda: A Qualitative Phenomenological Study.

BACKGROUND: Parenting during adolescence is associated with significant emotional, social, and economic challenges that increase vulnerability to depression and psychological distress. In sub-Saharan Africa, adolescent parents frequently experience stigma, school dropout, poverty, weak social support systems, and limited access to adolescent-friendly mental health services. However, limited qualitative evidence exists regarding the lived experiences of adolescent mothers and fathers with depression in Uganda. This study explored the lived experiences, social support systems, and coping mechani

Circadian, Reward, and Emotion Systems in Teens prospective longitudinal study: protocol overview of an integrative reward-circadian rhythm model of first onset of bipolar spectrum disorder in adolescence.

BACKGROUND: Bipolar spectrum disorders (BSDs) are associated with a heightened sensitivity to rewards and elevated reward-related brain function in cortico-striatal circuitry. A separate literature documents social and circadian rhythm disruption in BSDs. Recently, integrated reward-circadian models of BSDs have been proposed. These models draw on work indicating that the two systems influence each other and interact to affect mood functioning. When dysregulated, reward and circadian system signaling may combine to form a positive feedback loop, whereby dysregulation in one system exacerbates

The temporal dependencies between social, emotional and physical health factors in young people receiving mental healthcare: a dynamic Bayesian network analysis.

AIMS: The needs of young people attending mental healthcare can be complex and often span multiple domains (e.g., social, emotional and physical health factors). These factors often complicate treatment approaches and contribute to poorer outcomes in youth mental health. We aimed to identify how these factors interact over time by modelling the temporal dependencies between these transdiagnostic social, emotional and physical health factors among young people presenting for youth mental healthcare. METHODS: Dynamic Bayesian networks were used to examine the relationship between mental health

Prefrontal cortical activation associated with prospective memory while walking around a real-world street environment.

Rostral PFC (area 10) activation is common during prospective memory (PM) tasks. But it is not clear what mental processes these activations index. Three candidate explanations from cognitive neuroscience theory are: (i) monitoring of the environment; (ii) spontaneous intention retrieval; (iii) a combination of the two. These explanations make different predictions about the temporal and spatial patterns of activation that would be seen in rostral PFC in naturalistic settings. Accordingly, we plotted functional events in PFC using portable fNIRS while people were carrying out a PM task outside

Resident, family, and staff perceptions of the 'Good Life' in nursing home dementia care.

Providing high-quality care for nursing home residents with dementia is challenging due to staff turnover and complex care needs. This paper examines what constitutes 'good' days for residents, families, and staff. Guided by Gitlin's "Good Life" model, we conducted 46 telephone interviews with 11 residents with dementia, 19 family members, and 16 staff from seven nursing homes. Family or staff assisted residents during interviews. Data were analyzed thematically. Residents described better days as those with consistent daily routines and meaningful social interactions, particularly with staff.

Letter to the editor: Beyond reductionism in postpartum depression treatment and toward systems-oriented maternal mental health care.

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a heterogeneous mood disorder emerging within the first year after childbirth and shaped by interacting biological, psychological, and social factors. Although treatment is commonly adapted from major depressive disorder, the postpartum period represents a distinct and dynamically regulated physiological state. Rapid hormonal withdrawal, neuroendocrine recalibration, immune shifts, and adaptive neuroplastic changes occur concurrently, contributing to variable treatment response and clinical heterogeneity. Viewing PPD as a disorder of systems-level dysregulation h

Interaction of the Gut Microbiota and the Enteric Nervous System: Implications in Gastrointestinal Disorders Associated With Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairments in social interaction, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors. In addition to these core behavioral symptoms, gastrointestinal (GI) disorders are frequently reported, ranging from severe constipation to diarrhea. The links between ASD and gut dysfunction are further supported by alterations in gut microbiota composition and in bacteria-derived metabolites. As the intrinsic nervous system of the digestive tract, the enteric nervous system (ENS) plays a central role in gut physiology by exerting
