Long-Term Effectiveness of Dupilumab in Patients with Atopic Dermatitis: Results up to 3 Years from the RELIEVE-AD Study.

INTRODUCTION: Atopic dermatitis (AD) can require long-term therapy. Few real-world studies have evaluated long-term effectiveness from the patients' perspective. The aim of this study was to evaluate patient-reported outcomes (PROs) during long-term dupilumab treatment. METHODS: Adults with moderate-to-severe AD who initiated dupilumab through the US manufacturer patient support program and participated in RELIEVE-AD (a prospective patient survey study with a 12-month follow-up) were recontacted 30-36 months post-initiation regardless of current dupilumab use. The online questionnaire consist

A preclinical study of deep brain stimulation in the ventral tegmental area for alleviating positive psychotic-like behaviors in mice.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a clinical intervention for the treatment of movement disorders. It has also been applied to the treatment of psychiatric disorders such as depression, anorexia nervosa, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and schizophrenia. Psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression can lead to psychosis, which can cause patients to lose touch with reality. The ventral tegmental area (VTA), located near the midline of the midbrain, is an important region involved in psychosis. However, the clinical application of electrical stimulation of t

Clinical detection of 'cold stress' is overlooked: an online survey of healthcare workers to explore the gap in neonatal thermal care in low-resource settings.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal hypothermia has been widely regarded as a major contributory factor to neonatal mortality and morbidity in low-resource settings. The high prevalence of potentially preventable hypothermia today urges an investigation into why neonates still become hypothermic despite awareness of the problem and established thermal care guidelines. This study aimed to explore the gaps in knowledge and practices of neonatal thermal care among healthcare workers in low-resource settings. METHODS: A cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey was performed online among healthcare workers in

The Granulated Sweetener Packet Sign.

The last two decades have seen a continuing shift from visual and tactile diagnoses in dermatology towards novel, state-of-the-art, and noninvasive instrumental technologies. Against the current tide toward replacing classical physical examinations with sophisticated high-tech ones, the present article will describe an easy-to-use and practical clinical sign to differentiate between metastases of malignant lesions and apparently benign inflamed/infected dermoid cysts. Epidermoid cysts (sometimes erroneously called "sebaceous cysts") are subcutaneous nodules containing keratin and encapsulated

Cryoballoon Versus Laserballoon: Insights From the First Prospective Randomized Balloon Trial in Catheter Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) represents the cornerstone in atrial fibrillation ablation. Cryoballoon and laserballoon catheters have emerged as promising devices but lack randomized comparisons. Therefore, we sought to compare efficacy and safety comparing both balloons in patients with persistent and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). METHODS: Symptomatic AF patients (n=200) were prospectively randomized (1:1) to receive either cryoballoon or laserballoon PVI (cryoballoon: n=100: 50 paroxysmal atrial fibrillation + 50 persistent AF versus laserballoon: n=100: 50 paroxysmal at

DNA Methylation Dynamics in the Female Germline and Maternal-Effect Mutations That Disrupt Genomic Imprinting.

Genomic imprinting is an epigenetic marking process that results in the monoallelic expression of a subset of genes. Many of these 'imprinted' genes in mice and humans are involved in embryonic and extraembryonic growth and development, and some have life-long impacts on metabolism. During mammalian development, the genome undergoes waves of (re)programming of DNA methylation and other epigenetic marks. Disturbances in these events can cause imprinting disorders and compromise development. Multi-locus imprinting disturbance (MLID) is a condition by which imprinting defects touch more than one
