Nurses' Experiences of Grief Care for Terminally Ill Cancer Patients and Their Families: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Grief care is a vital yet emotionally demanding component of end-of-life nursing for patients with terminal cancer, with significant implications for family and community well-being. In Jordanian private hospitals, cultural sensitivities surrounding death and limited formal grief-care education may challenge nurses' ability to support patients and families effectively, with implications for sustainable healthcare practice. PURPOSE: This study explored nurses' experiences of grief care work with dying patients and their families from a community health nursing perspective in a Jord

Mental health interventions for carers of individuals with eating disorders: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials assessing efficacy on anxiety and depressive symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Carers of individuals with eating disorders (EDs) often experience high levels of psychological distress, which can lead to anxiety and depressive symptoms. While several interventions have been developed to support carers, the effectiveness on their mental health remains unclear. METHODS: We performed a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing mental health interventions for carers of individuals with EDs, with anxiety and depressive symptoms defined as outcomes of interest. Searches were performed across major electronic databases up to 31 October 2025.

Management of tobacco smoking among pregnant women: A qualitative study with French midwives to inform local practice recommendations.

BACKGROUND: Smoking during pregnancy remains a major public health issue and a leading preventable cause of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. In France, midwives play a central role in antenatal care and are key actors in smoking cessation support. However, little is known about how smoking cessation is managed in routine maternity care and how organizational and professional factors shape these practices. OBJECTIVES: To explore midwives' experiences in managing tobacco use during pregnancy, identify perceived barriers and facilitators in routine practice, and generate context-specific, pr

Barriers for access and utilization of dementia care services in Europe: a systematic review.

BackgroundDementia is a group of chronic diseases characterised by cognitive impairment that progressively disrupts daily functioning and requires increasing levels of healthcare, social support, and long-term care. Support for people with dementia can be provided by formal support systems although most of the care process relies upon informal care givers. Despite the availability of formal support systems and healthcare workers, the utilization of dementia care services remains suboptimal. Factors such as non-compliance, lack of awareness, and poor care coordination contribute to this issue.

'They can induce and exacerbate each other' - the complex interplay between domestic abuse and the perimenopause: a qualitative study with female survivors.

BACKGROUND: Domestic abuse (DA) and perimenopause are each known to profoundly impact women's health, yet their intersection remains largely unexplored. This study reveals how these experiences collide to create unique vulnerabilities and unexpected opportunities for transformation. This qualitative study explores how DA survivors experience perimenopause, examining the complexity and support needs that emerge when these experiences overlap. METHODS: Fifteen DA survivors participated in focus groups (and one individual interview) facilitated by a community leader of a DA survivors group explo

Supporting unpaid carers around hospital leave for people detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) in England: carer and practitioner perspectives.

BACKGROUND: When an individual is detained in hospital it is important that they maintain contact with their family, friends and communities as these can be helpful for their well-being and recovery. Maintaining these relationships is also important to unpaid carers (family or friends), but they can be strained by carers' instigation of, or compliance with, the involuntary detention. Section 17 of the Mental Health Act (1983) in England and Wales allows for temporary leave from hospital, from an hour in the hospital grounds to going home for a few days. However, carers are not always involved

Transgender and non-binary people's experiences with alcohol reduction in the UK: A cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Transgender (trans) and non-binary people experience disproportionate harm from alcohol use, have a greater likelihood of developing dependence, and experience exclusion from both clinical and peer-based support systems. This study aimed to understand experiences with and preferences for alcohol reduction support among UK-based transgender and non-binary people. METHODS: The study team and community stakeholders co-produced a cross-sectional survey and administered it to a purposive sample of trans and non-binary people from 1st February to 31st March 2022. Evaluating an enhanced quality improvement intervention in maternity units: PReCePT trial protocol.

The UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence Preterm labour and birth guideline recommends use of magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) in deliveries below 30 weeks' gestation to prevent cerebral palsy and other neurological problems associated with preterm delivery. Despite national guidance, the uptake of MgSO4 administration in eligible women has been slow. National Health Service England has rolled out the PReCePT (PRevention of Cerebral Palsy in Pre-Term labour) quality improvement (QI) toolkit to increase uptake of MgSO4 in preterm deliveries. The toolkit is designed to increase matern

The Amagugu intervention: a qualitative investigation into maternal experiences and perspectives of a maternal HIV disclosure support intervention in rural South Africa.

The World Health Organization recommends disclosure of parental HIV to children aged 6-12 years. The maternal HIV-disclosure intervention (Amagugu), a lay counsellor-led, home-based intervention with six sessions, was implemented. The intervention included provision of disclosure tools, training and support for mothers, a family session and health promotion clinic visit for mothers and children. Amagugu demonstrated success as a maternal disclosure support programme but less is known about the experiences of participants. A sub-sample of HIV-infected mothers (n = 20) with primary school-aged H

Physiotherapy interventions for balance impairments in Parkinson's disease: evidence from a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis.

Balance impairments are among the most disabling symptoms of Parkinson and are often poorly responsive to pharmacological therapy. Physiotherapy (PT) is a key non-pharmacological intervention to improve postural control, though optimal exercise characteristics and dose remain unclear. We conducted a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis to evaluate PT's effectiveness on balance in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) and define a dose-response relationship. A systematic search of PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science was done from March-April 2024 and updated in February 202

DNA damage repair-related gene signatures delineate immune-distinct subtypes and diagnostic cues in tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND: DNA damage repair-related genes (DDR-RGs) may shape tuberculosis (TB) pathogenesis, but their molecular characteristics, diagnostic utility, and cellular context remain insufficiently defined. METHODS: We integrated multiple GEO transcriptome datasets, identified differentially expressed genes, constructed weighted gene co-expression network analysis modules, and intersected these results with curated DDR-RGs to obtain candidate genes. An ensemble framework of 110 machine-learning model combinations was used to select diagnostic markers, followed by external validation, consensus

Baseline CT radiomics for early prediction of post-traumatic hydrocephalus in traumatic brain injury: development and temporal validation.

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic hydrocephalus (PTH) impairs recovery after traumatic brain injury (TBI), yet reliable early risk stratification based solely on baseline assessment remains limited. We aimed to develop and temporally validate a preoperative CT-based radiomics model for early prediction of PTH and to assess the incremental value of clinical predictors. METHODS: In this retrospective single-center cohort, 341 consecutive adults undergoing neurosurgical treatment for TBI were included. Patients treated in 2021-2023 (n = 289) formed the training cohort, and those treated in 2024 (n = 52
