"Employment and arthritis: making it work" a randomized controlled trial evaluating an online program to help people with inflammatory arthritis maintain employment (study protocol).

BACKGROUND: Arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions are the leading cause of long-term work disability (WD), an outcome with a major impact on quality of life and a high cost to society. The importance of decreased at-work productivity has also recently been recognized. Despite the importance of these problems, few interventions have been developed to reduce the impact of arthritis on employment. We have developed a novel intervention called "Making It Work", a program to help people with inflammatory arthritis (IA) deal with employment issues, prevent WD and improve at-work productivity. Exhaled breath metabolomics: Clinical diagnostic applications, technological evolution and translational challenges.

Breathomics, the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other metabolites in exhaled breath, offers a non-invasive approach to disease screening, longitudinal monitoring and assessment of treatment response. Advances in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, real-time mass spectrometry, electronic-nose (e-nose) sensors and machine-learning workflows have markedly improved the sensitivity and diagnostic performance of breath analysis. However, these gains have been demonstrated mainly in proof-of-concept and analytical validation studies, and remain insufficiently confirmed in prospec

Cationic covalent organic frameworks for simultaneous capture and high-performance enrichment of multiple angiotensins and aldosterone in human plasma.

The efficient enrichment and simultaneous detection of trace levels of angiotensin (Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ) and aldosterone in plasma pose certain technical challenges. Herein, we propose a novel strategy where a cationic covalent organic framework (Py-BPy2+-COF) was served as an attractive adsorption material for efficient enrichment of angiotensin (Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ) and aldosterone. Adsorption experiments and model fitting revealed that Py-BPy2+-COF exhibited adsorption capacities ranging from 5.02 to 26.12 μg g-1 for the four target analytes. The Hirshfeld partition analysis elucidated that the interaction forces

Prominent Literature in Surgical Ethics: A Comprehensive Bibliometric Analysis of the Top 50 Most-Cited Articles.

The patient-surgeon encounter is a complex relationship characterized by the infliction of pain for the patient's benefit. While surgical interventions are deeply personal, a significant knowledge disparity between patients and surgeons poses challenges in communication. Surgical training emphasizes the cultivation of virtues and practices to prioritize patient interests, but contemporary surgical practice still grapples with ethical quandaries. Addressing these challenges head-on is vital for advancing the field while ensuring patient safety, informed consent, cost-effectiveness, and conflict

Current diagnosing strategies for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and its drug resistance: a review.

Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), remains a major global health threat, compounded by the rise of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains. This review critically examines the current landscape of laboratory diagnostic methods for MTB, encompassing both established techniques and recent advancements. We explore the growth and genetic characteristics of MTB that underpin drug resistance development and detection. We then provide a comparative analysis of smear microscopy, culture-based methods, antigen detection, molecular diagnostics (

Identification of potential antileishmanial agents via structure-based molecular simulations.

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease with frequent annual incidence. An important issue in chemotherapy is the emergence of resistance, toxicity and lack of cost-effectiveness within current drugs. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to design effective drugs against disease. Current contribution was devoted to the in-silico analysis of binding a few flavonoids/alkaloids to relevant leishmanial targets. Docking scores were used to prioritize acquired affinities and top ranked binders were subjected to subsequent 100-ns MD simulation in explicit water. Binding trajectories revealed the tighte

Identification of Three Novel Frameshift Mutations in the PKD1 Gene in Iranian Families with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease Using Efficient Targeted Next-Generation Sequencing.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is one of the most common inherited cystic kidney diseases caused by mutations in two large multi-exon genes, PKD1 and PKD2. High allelic heterogeneity and duplication of PKD1 exons 1-32 as six pseudo genes on chromosome 16 complicate molecular analysis of this disease. METHODS: We applied targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) in 9 non-consanguineous unrelated Iranian families with ADPKD to identify the genes hosting disease-causing mutations. This approach was confirmed by Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: Here, we determin

Prenatal prediction of spinal muscular atrophy by SMN deletion analysis.

The objective of this study was to provide prenatal prediction of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) by survival motor neuron (SMN) gene deletion analysis and genetic counseling in families with previous child affected with SMA. The SMN gene is absent or interrupted in approximately 95% of SMA patients independence of clinical severity. We study four families with one previous child affected in each by performing the SMN deletion analysis in the index case. When a homozygous deletion in exon 7 or exon 8 is found, we offer prenatal prediction to the family. All four index cases had homozygous deleti
