Prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with a unilateral cleft palate: a clinical report.

Cleft palate is a congenital disorder characterized by maxillary growth defect and dental anomalies. Its correction requires an interdisciplinary approach, which includes surgical, orthodontic, and prosthetic treatments. This clinical report describes the prosthetic management of a 19-year-old woman with a unilateral cleft palate defect that had not been closed completely with surgical repair. The deficient maxillary residual anterior ridge was restored with a tooth-supported overdenture that improved her facial appearance, speech, and masticatory functions.

Treatment of a perforating inflammatory external root resorption with mineral trioxide aggregate and histologic examination after extraction.

INTRODUCTION: Inflammatory external root resorption (IERR) requires damage or loss of the protective layer and an inflammatory process in the unprotected root surface. Infection of the pulp space can occur after a serious injury and stimulate an inflammatory response. When the inflammatory stimulus is long-standing, the destructive phase will continue until the stimulation is removed. METHODS: This article describes the use of cone-beam computed tomography scanning in the diagnosis and management of a perforating IERR in tooth #10 with a 17-month follow-up and histologic examination after ext

Combination of natural teeth and osseointegrated implants as prosthesis abutments: a 2-year longitudinal study.

Twenty-three patients with Kennedy Class I mandibular dentition were supplied with prostheses in the posterior parts of the mandible. On one side they were given a prosthesis supported by two implants (prosthesis Type I) and on the other side they received a prosthesis supported by one implant and one natural tooth (prosthesis Type II). Sixty-nine fixtures were inserted and 46 prostheses constructed. Eight of the fixtures were lost during the observation period. The failure rate of the implants was about the same in the two types of prostheses; five fixtures belonged to prostheses Type I (10.9

Forensic odontological observations in the victims of DANA air crash.

INTRODUCTION: Forensic odontology or forensic dentistry is that aspect of forensic science that uses the application of dental science for the identification of unknown human remains and bite marks. Deaths resulting from mass disasters such as plane crash or fire incidence have always been given mass burial in Nigeria. This was obviously due to the fact that Forensic Pathologists whose roles involve disaster victim identification were not available at that time. However, in the DANA air crash in Lagos in 2012, the Forensic pathologist and dental teams were invited for the first time to identif

Flexural Strength of Different Commercially Available Auto-Polymerizing Acrylic Resins: An In Vitro Study.

Background Auto-polymerizing acrylic resins, composed primarily of poly(methyl methacrylate) and methyl methacrylate, are crucial in prosthetic dentistry due to their ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and acceptable aesthetics, polymerizing at room temperature to form solid polymer networks. One of the most important mechanical properties of these resins is flexural strength, which is essential for their performance under continuous masticatory forces. In clinical applications, prosthetic materials endure repetitive stress from chewing, and resins with higher flexural strength are better equipp
