Despite multiple efforts by the Togolese government and non-governmental organizations to stem this phenomenon, it still persists and is growing. This paper aims to analyse the influence of the Vodou workshop practice on the occurrence of adolescent pregnancies. The paper relied on analysis of 105 Key Informant Interviews in four villages in the maritime region. The results reveal that the Vodou

Exploring Xylazine Awareness, Health Impacts, and Harm Reduction Strategies: Findings From a Multimethods Study in Lowell, Massachusetts.

BACKGROUND: Xylazine, an adulterant in local drug supplies, has been detected in approximately 30% of opioid samples submitted for testing in Massachusetts. A better understanding of local risks, harms, and use preferences is needed to combat xylazine-related impacts on local communities. METHODS: Through the STOP-OD Lowell study, we aimed to assess local xylazine awareness through in-depth interviews with local community stakeholders (n = 15) and local people who use drugs (PWUD; n = 15) and surveys with local PWUD (n = 94). The qualitative interviews focused on the current drug landscape an

Developing a question prompt tool to prevent and manage early cardiovascular disease after hypertensive pregnancy: qualitative interviews with women and clinicians.

BACKGROUND: Persons (henceforth, women) who have hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are at risk of premature cardiovascular disease (CVD). While largely preventable through lifestyle management, many women and clinicians are unaware of the risk. Based on prior research, we developed a question prompt tool (QPT) on preventing and managing CVD after HDP. The purpose of this study was to refine QPT design. METHODS: We recruited Canadian women who had HDP and clinicians who might care for them using multiple strategies, conducted telephone interviews with consenting participants, and used

Impact of an International Training on Interventionists' Expertise in Cleft Palate Speech: Results From Oaxaca, Mexico.

PURPOSE: International cleft lip and palate surgical charities recognize that speech therapy is essential for successful care of individuals after palate repair. This exploratory study investigated effects of a two-stage cleft training in Oaxaca, Mexico, aimed at preparing speech interventionists to provide research-based services to individuals born with cleft palate. Changes in the interventionists' content knowledge and clinical skil

Unveiling the gaps: Hypertension control beyond the cascade of care framework.

This study examines hypertension control beyond the cascade of care framework, which assesses awareness, treatment, and control sequentially. The analysis included 52 434 hypertensive adults (blood pressure (BP) ≥140/90 mm Hg and/or treatment in the past 6 months), aged 25-69, from the French population-based CONSTANCES cohort from 2012 to 2021. The authors assessed the typical "awareness, treatment, and control" scenario and characterized other possible control patterns. The authors found that 13% achieved control. This percentage rose to 19% when considering individuals who were not aware bu

Knowledge of non-contraceptive benefits of and willingness to consider taking oral contraceptive pills among a low-risk female population: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: In addition to its widely-appreciated contraceptive applications, the oral contraceptive pill (OCP) conveys both oncological and non-oncological benefits. Oncological benefits include a decreased risk of endometrial, ovarian, and colorectal cancer. Non-oncological benefits include reducing androgenic effects and alleviating menstruation-related problems. This study aimed to ascertain knowledge levels of non-contraceptive benefits and risks of OCP use among participants without contraindications to OCPs. This study also assessed factors associated with participants being more likely

How Much THC Is in That Joint? A Daily Diary Study of Young Adults' Knowledge of the Cannabinoid Content of Cannabis Products.

OBJECTIVE: Many young adults report frequent cannabis use and are at risk for cannabis harms. Knowledge of the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) concentrations of cannabis products may promote harm reduction, but few studies have characterized cannabinoid concentration knowledge in this population. This study used day-level data to examine predictors of cannabinoid concentration knowledge and associations of cannabinoid concentration knowledge with substance-related consequences among young adults. METHOD: Participants (n = 131; mean age = 22.11 years; 64.12% female) from a lar

The dimensionality of vaccination intentions: One strain or multiple strains?

OBJECTIVE: People likely have different attitudes toward different vaccines (e.g., they may hold a positive attitude toward the measles, mumps, and rubella-vaccine while simultaneously hold a neutral attitude toward the flu shot). To examine the dimensionality of vaccination intentions, we measured vaccination intentions toward 16 different diseases. We hypothesized that people differentiate between child-directed vaccination intentions and self-directed vaccination intentions. Furthermore, we hypothesized that some commonly studied factors (e.g., trust in authorities and fear of needles) migh
