Copper nanoparticles as a precision nutrition strategy to enhance reproductive resilience and in vitro sperm fertilizing capacity in heat stressed breeding bulls.

Heat stress (HS) is a major environmental challenge that compromises fertility in breeding bulls by disrupting physiological homeostasis and reproductive function. This study evaluated the potential of dietary copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) to improve reproductive resilience and thermotolerance in Sahiwal breeding bulls exposed to summer HS. Eighteen clinically healthy bulls were randomly assigned to three dietary treatments (n = 6/group): control (no CuNPs), S1 (10 mg CuNPs/kg dry matter (DM), and S2 (20 mg CuNPs/kg DM), and maintained under peak HS conditions for 16 weeks. The supplementation

Thermal priming enhances yield after recurrent heat stress and involves SlHSFA2-SlERFs in the regulation of transcriptional thermal memory in tomato.

Heat stress (HS) severely limits plant growth and productivity, threatening agriculture and food security. Plants cope with recurrent HS through adaptive thermal memory, which allows them to retain a memory of prior moderate priming stress. However, while this process has been well studied in Arabidopsis thaliana, it remains unclear whether the same molecular mechanisms operate in horticultural crops such as tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). Here, we show that tomato plants display a longer thermal memory capacity than Arabidopsis. We found that thermal priming followed by recurrent HS enhanced y

Zero-heat flux skin temperature tracks nasopharyngeal temperature during cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass: a prospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: Monitoring both nasopharyngeal temperature (TNP) and arterial blood temperature at the CPB arterial outlet is routinely used in cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). We examined the agreement and temperature tracking ability of zero-heat-flux skin temperature (TZHF) compared with TNP in cardiac surgery. METHODS: Of 40 patients scheduled to undergo cardiac surgery with CPB, paired TZHF and TNP measurements were recorded for 33 patients, yielding 8610 measurements across pre-CPB, CPB-cooling, CPB-maintenance, CPB-rewarming, and post-CPB. RESULTS: In the final, trimmed

Interpretable machine learning for identifying determinants of high hypertension burden under extreme heat vulnerability: evidence from Maryland, USA.

Extreme heat poses increasing risks to cardiovascular health, yet fine-scale determinants of heat-related hypertension burden remain insufficiently understood. This study examines high hypertension burden in a heat-vulnerability context across 1,385 census tracts in Maryland using an interpretable machine learning framework. An XGBoost model was developed to classify census tracts with high hypertension burden using demographic, socioeconomic, built-environment, heat anomaly, and adaptive-capacity variables. SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) were then used to identify key predictors, assess

Magnetic resonance imaging safety-driven, heat-mitigating design for a magnetic resonance imaging-guided, magnetically actuated robotic catheter.

BACKGROUND: Metallic components in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided robotic catheters, such as leadwires and microcoils, can interact with the scanner's radiofrequency (RF) fields, causing heating via the antenna effect and Joule heating, leading to localized temperature rises and an increased risk of thermal injury. Ensuring thermal safety will enable safe and reliable operation of magnetically actuated robotic catheters within MRI environments. PURPOSE: This study aims to develop a novel MRI-compatible robotic catheter design that mitigates RF-induced and resistive heating, ensuring

Nanoscale heat evaluation performance using hybrid nanocomposites along vertical riga surface under robin boundary and transient concept.

The heat transfer through Riga surface associated to Robin condition and transient effects is an interesting topic. The primary objectives of this work are to model a heat transfer problem for vertical Riga surface using hybrid nanocomposite properties, along with thermal radiation, mixed convection and unsteady effects. The problem governs the flow transformed into dimensionless form with the help of similarity transformations, and enhanced properties of nanofluids. The model novelty falls in the development of superior tetra nanofluid class and its comparison with traditional classes (ternar

Effectiveness and feasibility of residential passive heat adaptation interventions on reducing indoor temperature in low-income communities in Africa: a systematic review.

Rising global temperatures have emerged as a critical concern in recent decades and are recognized as one of the biggest threats to human health. In Africa, low-income communities face disproportionate exposure and vulnerability to extreme temperatures due to poorly planned housing structures and limited adaptive capacity. As passive heat adaptation interventions gain traction across the continent, this review evaluates their technical effectiveness and community feasibility within low-income African communities. Using the Joanna Briggs Institute feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulness, a

Is the Request for Medical Assistance in Dying the Quintessential Example of Shared Decision-Making? Ethical, Medical and Historical Issues in a Heated Debate in France.

Shared decision-making (SDM) is a structured negotiation process, that seeks to strike a balance between the physician and the patient. This deliberative model, in which the expertise, values and preferences of both parties are pre-eminent, is well suited to a vast majority of clinical settings, including palliative care and end-of-life contexts. Could SDM also be used in cases where a request is made for medical assistance in dying (MAiD: physician-assisted suicide or euthanasia) by a person with an advanced illness and intractable suffering? To date, MAiD remains illegal in France and has sp

Trehalose-mediated anti-freezing and heat-resistant chitosan-based conductive hydrogels with tunicate cellulose nanocrystals for antibacterial wearable sensors.

Conductive hydrogels based on natural products are promising for wearable sensors owing to their low cost and good biocompatibility, but typically suffer from poor mechanical strength, limited environmental stability, insufficient antibacterial activity, single functionality, and poor electrical conductivity. Here, we develop a conductive nanocomposite hydrogel (CAT2T1.2L0.1) featuring trehalose as a natural cryoprotectant-a key design element of our system-along with tannic acid-coated tunicate cellulose nanocrystals (TA@TCNCs) as nano-reinforcements incorporated into a chitosan/acrylic acid

Evaluating the role of coral trophic strategies in driving community shifts in response to heat stress via stable isotopes-based modeling.

BACKGROUND: Corals are increasingly threatened by global climate change, which may lead to shifts in their community on geographic scales. Reef-building corals are mixotrophic and may increase heterotrophy to bolster their resilience to environmental stress. However, many studies only focus on trophic strategies at the species or genus level, overlooking whether the change in these strategies may cause community shifts. RESULTS: Prior to potential summer thermal events, we collected coral samples and classified them into different groups based on the shortest distance from the inner edge of t

L-cysteine enhances heat-stress adaptation in meat-type chickens through modulation of cysteine-metabolic and nutrient transporter genes.

Heat stress (HS) is a major challenge in poultry production due to its negative effects on growth, metabolism, and redox balance. Excessive reactive oxygen species generated during HS contribute to oxidative damage, emphasizing the need for nutritional strategies that enhance antioxidant capacity. This study evaluated the effects of dietary L-cysteine supplementation on growth performance, carcass traits, hepatic redox-related gene expression, and ileal nutrient transporters in commercial broilers. A total of 1,080 Cobb500 chickens (d 28-35) were assigned to diets containing deficient (0%), co
