Overview of MRI findings in progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a severe demyelinating disease of the central nervous system caused by JC virus (JCV) infection. PML affects patients with various underlying conditions, such as HIV/AIDS, hematological malignancies, organ transplants, autoimmune diseases, or multiple sclerosis particularly those receiving disease-modifying therapies. MRI plays a crucial role in diagnosis, demonstrating characteristic findings across multiple sequences, including T2-weighted imaging (T2WI)/fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR), T1-weighted imaging (T1WI), diffusion-weig

Evaluation of the feeding safety of Moringa (Moringa oleifera L.) in the Sprague Dawley rat.

This study aimed to evaluate the safety of Moringa by comparing the effects of different gavage doses of Moringa. The general behavior, body weight, food intake, blood indexes, serum biochemical indexes, and histopathology of rats were used to determine the safety threshold and to provide a reference for the further development and use of Moringa as animal feed. 40 Sprague Dawley rats were selected and given transoral gavage for 28 consecutive days. The T1, T2 and T3 groups were observed for general behavior, body weight, and food intake. Blood and serum biochemical indices were quantified, an

Thymic-Epithelial-Cell-Dependent Microenvironment Influences Proliferation and Apoptosis of Leukemic Cells.

T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a hematological cancer characterized by the infiltration of immature T-cells in the bone marrow. Aberrant NOTCH signaling in T-ALL is mainly triggered by activating mutations of NOTCH1 and overexpression of NOTCH3, and rarely is it linked to NOTCH3-activating mutations. Besides the known critical role of NOTCH, the nature of intrathymic microenvironment-dependent mechanisms able to render immature thymocytes, presumably pre-leukemic cells, capable of escaping thymus retention and infiltrating the bone marrow is still unclear. An important challeng

Evaluation of a blood miRNA/mRNA signature to follow-up Lu-PRRT therapy for G1/G2 intestinal neuroendocrine tumors.

BACKGROUND: 177Lu-oxodotreotide peptide receptor therapy (LuPRRT) is an efficient treatment for midgut neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of variable radiological response. Several clinical, biological, and imaging parameters may be used to establish a relative disease prognosis but none is able to predict early efficacy or toxicities. We investigated expression levels for mRNA and miRNA involved in radiosensitivity and tumor progression searching for correlations related to patient outcome during LuPRRT therapy. METHODS: Thirty-five patients received LuPRRT for G1/G2 midgut NETs between May 2019 a

Nano-emulsified black soldier fly oil concerning performance traits, health, and immunity of broilers.

In the antibiotic-free era, traditional antibiotics have been suggested as alternatives to antibiotic-based growth promoters. Among the various methods, self-nano-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) are increasingly utilized to improve the bioavailability of oils containing essential substances. In this study, we evaluated the effects of black soldier fly oil (BSFO) SNEDDS in chicken drinking water on growth performance, small intestine histomorphology, and poultry health status. We divided 225 male Indian River strain broiler chickens into five treatment groups, each consisting of 5 re

Oral Supplementation of Ozonated Sunflower Oil Augments Plasma Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Abilities with Enhancement of High-Density Lipoproteins Functionality in Rats.

Research on ozonated sunflower oil (OSO) is mostly restricted to its topical application, whereas the functional and toxicological assessment of oral OSO consumption is yet to be solved. Herein, OSO was orally supplemented in rats to assess the impact on plasma antioxidant status, low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and high-density lipoproteins (HDL). Also, the functionality of HDL from the OSO-supplemented rats (OSO-HDL) was tested against carboxymethyllysine (CML)- induced hyperinflammation in embryo and adult zebrafish. The results revealed that four weeks of OSO supplementation (3 g/kg BW/day

Preparing Wearable Data for AI-Powered Mood and Compliance Prediction in HCT Patients and Caregivers.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) is a potentially life-saving treatment that uses healthy blood-forming cells from donors to replace dysfunctional or damaged hematopoietic cells in patients with various blood disorders. This procedure is often employed to treat conditions such as hematological malignancies (e.g., leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma) and other severe blood or immune system diseases. Monitoring post-transplant complications is essential for tracking physiological effects and aiding in clinical decision-making. Biobehavioral aspects of care partners (i.e., unpaid caregivers)

Prevalence and clinical consequences of Hepatitis C virus infection in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT) recipients. In Brazil, its occurrence in HCT recipients remains undetermined. We now report on HCV prevalence in HCT recipients and its clinical consequences. The medical records of all HCT recipients seen at Hospital das Clinicas, Sao Paulo University Medical School, from January 2010 to January 2020 were reviewed to determine HCV serostatus. A retrospective analysis of medical charts was undertaken on all seropositive cases to determine HCV genotype, presence of

Raman spectroscopy of dried serum for the detection of rapid noninvasive multiple myeloma.

Raman spectroscopy has recently emerged as an attractive focus of research interest in studies of hematological diseases. However, comprehensive Raman spectral analyses of serum samples from patients with multiple myeloma (MM) or other forms of lymphatic neoplastic disease are lacking. In this study, laser Raman spectroscopy and orthogonal partial least-squares discrimination analysis (OPLS-DA) were employed to develop a simple, noninvasive approach to MM diagnosis based on dried serum samples. To that end, systematic OPLS-DA analyses of dried serum from 35 patients with MM and 13 healthy cont

Comparison of fibroblast growth factor 19 concentrations between dogs with and without gallbladder mucoceles.

BACKGROUND: Fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) is an enterohepatic hormone the synthesis of which is stimulated by bile acid activation of the nuclear farnesoid X receptor (FXR) in ileal enterocytes. Increased production of FGF19 downregulates hepatocyte bile acid synthesis and gluconeogenesis, while concurrently upregulating hepatocyte glycogenesis and gallbladder (GB) filling. The physiologic impact of this regulatory cycle is illustrated in cholecystectomized humans, in whom the disturbed meal-related flux of GB bile decreases serum FGF19 concentrations. OBJECTIVE: Determine if serum FGF1

Amphiphilic NLC-Gel formulation loaded with Sebacoyl dinalbuphine ester and Nalbuphine for localized postoperative pain management.

Opioids are powerful analgesics; however, their significant systemic adverse effects and the need for frequent administration restrict their use. Nalbuphine (NA) is a κ-agonist narcotic with limited adverse effects, but needs to be frequently administrated due to its short elimination half-life. Whereas sebacoyl dinalbuphine ester (SDE) is a NA prodrug, which can effectively prolong the analgesic effect, but lacks immediate pain relief. Therefore, in this study, a rapid and sustained local delivery formulation to introduce NA and SDE directly into surgical sites was developed. An amphiphilic n

CAR T-cell toxicities: from bedside to bench, how novel toxicities inform laboratory investigations.

Multiple chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies are US Food and Drug Administration-approved, and several are under development. Although effective for some cancers, toxicities remain a limitation. The most common toxicities, that is, cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome, are well described. With increasing utilization, providers worldwide are reporting other emergent and often complicated toxicities. Given the evolving toxicity profiles and urgent need to catalog these emerging and emergent CAR T-cell toxicities and describe management
