High solar-to-hydrogen efficiency in a direct Z-scheme GaAs/GeH van der Waals heterostructure for photocatalytic water splitting.

The development of efficient photocatalysts for solar-driven water splitting remains a critical challenge due to limited light absorption, rapid charge recombination, and insufficient redox capability. In this work, we propose a GaAs/GeH van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure and systematically investigate its structural, electronic, mechanical, optical, and photocatalytic properties using first-principles calculations. The results demonstrate that the heterostructure is energetically, mechanically, and dynamically stable and exhibits a direct band gap with a type-II band alignment, enabling effe

Discovery of 4-Aminoquinazoline Derivatives as Potent PKMYT1 Inhibitors via Hydrogen Bond Donor-To-Acceptor Conversion for CCNE1-Amplified Cancers.

PKMYT1 is a critical regulator of the cell cycle and has emerged as a promising synthetic lethal target for CCNE1-amplified cancers. In this study, we report the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of a novel series of 4-aminoquinazoline-based PKMYT1 inhibitors. A hydrogen bond donor-to-acceptor conversion strategy was successfully employed to reduce the hydrogen bond donor (HBD) count, thereby improving the drug-likeness of this series. Among them, compound 12f exhibited nanomolar inhibitory activity against PKMYT1 and potent antiproliferative activity in the OVCAR-3 ovarian cancer c

Organ-specific oxidative stress induced by lipopolysaccharide, hydrogen peroxide, or iron: mechanisms and experimental models in brain, liver, kidney, and heart.

Oxidative stress arises when reactive oxygen species (ROS) production exceeds antioxidant and repair capacity, promoting lipid, protein, and DNA damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and regulated cell death. This review critically examined organ-specific oxidative injury induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), or iron (Fe2+) in experimental brain, liver, kidney, and heart models. LPS primarily initiated oxidative damage through Toll-like receptor 4-dependent inflammatory signaling, cytokine release, mitochondrial impairment, and activation of apoptosis or fer

Pd-Sensitized SnO2@WO3 Nanosheets via Cluster-Nucleus Coassembly: Enhanced Hydrogen Spillover for High-Efficiency H2 Sensing.

The risk of hydrogen explosions in industrial and hydrogen energy facilities presents serious safety threats. An inherent trade-off between response magnitude and response/recovery kinetics plagues chemiresistive H2 sensors: monocomponent materials are incapable of concurrently realizing high-efficiency H2 activation and ultrafast gas-solid interfacial charge transfer/desorption. Herein, we synthesized SnO2@WO3 hexagonal nanosheets via hydrothermal cluster-nucleus coassembly and decorated them with Pd nanoparticles by wet-chemical reduction. The Pd/SnO2@WO3 sensor exhibits a response (Rair/Rga

High-frequency ultrasound modulates the interfacial Ni(OH)2/NiOOH redox transition to enhance glucose electrooxidation and hydrogen production.

Replacing the kinetically limited oxygen evolution reaction with biomass electrooxidation offers a promising route toward energy-efficient hydrogen production, yet the electrooxidation reaction's performance remains hindered by interfacial kinetics and catalyst accessibility. Here, we demonstrate that high-frequency ultrasound acts as a dynamic physical field that drives interfacial chemical activation, enabling enhanced glucose electrooxidation on nickel foam under mild conditions. Under acoustic irradiation, the Ni(OH)2/NiOOH redox transition undergoes a substantial cathodic shift of approxi

Structural, color, and stability properties of hydrogen peroxide-treated phycoerythrin-based colorant proteins from dried laver (Pyropia yezoensis).

This study aimed to develop a strategy for use of the water-soluble protein fraction extracted from laver biomass to establish a seaweed biorefinery system. By leveraging the oxidative reactivity differences of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), a phycoerythrin (PE)-based colorant protein (PBCP) was produced from the water-soluble proteins of dried laver (Pyropia yezoensis). The highest a* value and PE/PC ratio (13.85) for PBCP were achieved after a 1.5 h treatment with 4.5 mol/L H₂O₂. The protein content (3.48 mg/mL) of the PBCP was approximately 1.5-fold to 2-fold greater than that of PE obtained thr

Wafer-Scale 2D High-Entropy Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Thin-Film Catalysts for Efficient and Durable Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production.

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of conventional 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is constrained by the limited selection of metal cations, predominantly MoS2, whose inert basal planes and unstable 1T phases hinder PEC efficiency. High-entropy TMDs, in which local lattice distortion and charge redistribution occur within a van der Waals layered structure, are expected to overcome these intrinsic limitations by improving catalytic activity, photocarrier dynamics, and phase stability. Here, we demonstrate a wafer-scale 2D high-entropy (MoWTaNb

The Effect of Allosteric Conformational Regulation on the Crystal Packing of Aromatic Amide Metallomacrocycles via Ligand-Modulated Remote Intramolecular Hydrogen Bonds.

The versatility of supramolecular chemistry stems from rational molecular design, which allows for the precise control over noncovalent interactions to direct self-assembly processes. Inspired by allosteric regulation in biomolecules, where long-range interactions dictate function, we report a novel aramide macrocyclic palladium complex that adopts distinct conformations upon allosteric complexation with ligands based on 4-substituted pyridine derivatives. Modulating ligand coordination strength and steric demand alters intramolecular three-center hydrogen-bond strength at a remote site, leadi

Ruthenium-Engineered Active Hydrogen Dynamics in Cobalt Hydroxide: Enabling Enhanced Ammonia Synthesis and Photothermally Assisted Zn-Nitrite Battery.

The electrocatalytic nitrite reduction reaction (NO2RR) offers a viable route for converting nitrite-contaminated wastewater into high-value ammonia (NH3) under mild conditions. However, its practical application is impeded by limited selectivity and slow kinetics, primarily stemming from an insufficient supply of active hydrogen (*H). Herein, we rationally design and fabricate a ruthenium nanoparticle-decorated cobalt hydroxide nanowire (Ru-Co(OH)2) electrocatalyst for enhanced NO2RR, achieving an ammonia yield rate of 7.71 mg h-1 cm-2 and a Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 93.1% at -0.5 V vs RHE.

MXene Nanoclusters as High-Performance Hydrogen Storage Media: First-Principles Insights into Hf₂C, Ta₂C, and W₂C.

This study investigates the hydrogen storage capabilities of MXene-based nanoclusters (Hf₂C, Ta₂C, and W₂C) using first-principles density functional theory calculations. All nanoclusters exhibit outstanding structural stability, reflected by strong binding energies (- 6.54 to - 7.38 eV) and the absence of vibrational instabilities. Electronic structure analysis identifies transition-metal sites with moderate positive electrostatic potentials as the most favorable centers for hydrogen adsorption. With increasing hydrogen loading, the adsorption mechanism evolves from chemisorption to a synergi

Hydrogen treatment attenuates ferroptosis and alleviates spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.

PURPOSE: Spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury (SCIRI) can lead to significant losses in sensory and motor functions. The precise role of hydrogen (H2) as an antioxidant in the process of ferroptosis is not fully determined. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study used an abdominal aorta ligation technique to establish a SCIRI model in rats. Following oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R), HT22 cells were treated with H2 to assess its impact on ferroptosis. Hindlimb motor function was evaluated using the motor deficit index (MDI) and Basso, Beattie, Bresnahan (BBB) scoring, while neuro

High-concentration hydrogen mitigates cognitive impairment in a murine model of Sepsis-associated encephalopathy by enhancing oligodendrocyte maturation and myelination in the mPFC.

Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) commonly elicits long-lasting cognitive deterioration. Although hydrogen inhalation exerts protective effects in sepsis, its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Dysregulated oligodendrocyte maturation and myelin architectural defects are pivotal pathological drivers of cognitive deficits across multiple neurological disorders. This study investigates whether high-concentration(67%) hydrogen gas protects against SAE by promoting oligodendrocyte maturation and myelination in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). A CLP-induced mouse SAE model was establishe

Hydrogen-/halogen-bond switching enables exciton switching for color and singlet-triplet dynamics tuning in pyridine N-oxide cocrystals.

Regulating solid-state emission without altering molecular backbones remains challenging because excited-state pathways are highly packing-dependent. Here we show that supramolecular cocrystallization can reprogram the dominant excitation character of a pyridine N-oxide luminophore (NyPO) by selectively engaging hydrogen bonding versus halogen bonding at the same acceptor site. Under identical 365 nm excitation, the hydrogen-bonded NyPO·H2O crystal exhibits blue emission at approximately 460 nm, whereas the halogen-bonded NyPO·TITFB·DCM cocrystal shows red-shifted green emission at approximate

Achieving Wide-Temperature-Range Physical and Chemical Hydrogen Sorption in a Structural Optimized Mg/N-Doped Porous Carbon Nanocomposite.

Nanoconfinement is a promising approach to simultaneously enhance the thermodynamics, kinetics, and cycling stability of hydrogen storage materials. The introduction of supporting scaffolds usually causes a reduction in the total hydrogen storage capacity due to "dead weight." Here, we synthesize an optimized N-doped porous carbon (rN-pC) without heavy metal as supporting scaffold to confine Mg/MgH2 nanoparticles (Mg/MgH2@rN-pC). rN-pC with 60 wt% loading capacity of Mg (denoted as 60 Mg@rN-pC) can adsorb and desorb 0.62 wt% H2 on the rN-pC scaffold. The nanoconfined MgH2 can be chemically deh

Unraveling how the crystal phase and dispersion of mesoporous carbon-confined Ru nanoclusters govern full-pH hydrogen evolution performance.

The design and fabrication of highly active hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts that can outperform Pt/C are extremely desirable but remain challenging. Selective Activation of PMS by a Single-Atom MOF in Confined Space: Hydrogen Bond-Assisted Nonradical Pathway and Continuous Flow Verification.

Conventional peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation often depends on nonselective radicals, limiting efficiency and selectivity. Precise nonradical pathways based on singlet oxygen (1O2) or high-valent metal oxo species under mild conditions remain difficult to realize. A single-atom cobalt-organic framework (Co SA-MOF) integrates hydrogen bonding and pollutant-mediated dual electron transfer, enabling highly efficient and selective nonradical PMS activation. Mixed cobalt valence states and N-H ligands establish an internal pathway in which isolated Co(II)/Co(III) sites with N-H ligands act as a r

Deep potential molecular dynamics study on the hydrogen bonding interactions and diffusion behavior of fluorine in wet-process phosphoric acid production.

The mechanisms underlying the decline in defluorination efficiency during late-stage wet-process phosphoric acid (WPA) production remain elusive, as the critical role of the fluorine (F-) hydrogen bonding is often overlooked. This study employs multiscale simulations, combining first-principles molecular dynamics (FPMD) and deep potential molecular dynamics (DPMD), to investigate the evolution of the hydrogen bond network (HBN) and its impact on fluorine migration across varying P2O5 concentrations and temperatures. Our results identify fluorine as the most potent H-bond acceptor in the system

UiO-66-derived carbon-confined PtZn alloy catalysts: synergistic electronic structure regulation and enhanced hydrogen evolution performance.

Reducing Pt usage while maintaining high activity and durability remains a central challenge for acidic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts. Here, we report a confinement-alloying strategy that integrates PtM-u (M = Zn, Co, and Ru) alloy nanoparticles within a hierarchically porous carbon scaffold derived from the controlled pyrolysis of UiO-66. The resulting catalysts exhibit markedly enhanced HER performance in acidic media compared to commercial PtC. Notably, the PtZn-u catalyst demonstrates exceptional intrinsic activity, achieving an overpotential of only 10 mV at 10 mA cm-
