Rapid community identification, pain and distress associated with lymphoedema and adenolymphangitis due to lymphatic filariasis in resource-limited communities of North-eastern Nigeria.

Identification of communities with people that could benefit from adenolymphangitis (ADL) and lymphoedema morbidity management within Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination Programmes (NLFEP) in many African countries is a major challenge to programme managers. Another challenge is advocating for proportionate allocation of funds to alleviating the suffering that afflicted people bear. In this study we developed a rapid qualitative technique of identifying communities where morbidity management programme could be situated and documenting the pain and distress that afflicted persons endure. Estimates

Congenital cataract: a guide to genetic and clinical management.

UNLABELLED: Worldwide 20,000-40,000 children with congenital or childhood cataract are born every year with varying degrees and patterns of lens opacification with a broad aetiology. In most cases of bilateral cataract, a causative genetic mutation can be identified, with autosomal dominant inheritance being most common in 44% of cases. Variants in genes involve lens-specific proteins or those that regulate eye development, thus giving rise to other associated ocular abnormalities. Approximately 15% of cases have systemic features, hence paediatric input is essential to minimise comorbidities

Assessing eating disorders in adults with type 1 diabetes: An item response theory analysis of the Diabetes Eating Problems Survey-Revised (DEPS-R).

The 16-item Diabetes Eating Problems Survey-Revised (DEPS-R) is one of the few instruments assessing disordered eating behaviors (DEBs) in Type 1 diabetes (T1D). Although a DEPS-R total score of ≥20 is oft used to identify a probable eating disorder, previous work has shown that some items may reflect T1D management struggles, rather than DEB, with other work indicating that different response profiles (e.g., overeating vs. diabulimia) correspond to varying DEB risks. To identify DEPS-R items of greatest utility in detecting DEB in T1D, we used a form of item response theory to evaluate item v

Episodic Gregariousness Leads to Level-Dependent Core Habitats: A Case Study in Eastern Copperheads (Agkistrodon contortrix).

Characterizing the complex relationships between animals and their habitats is essential for effective wildlife conservation and management. Wildlife-habitat selection is influenced by multiple life-history requirements, which act over varying spatial and temporal scales, and result in dispersion patterns that can differ across ecological levels. For example, sites that attract intense communal use (e.g., hibernacula and communal basking sites) are often a subset of the habitats required by individuals for survival. Despite the conservation importance of both individually and communally signif
