Injury to the central slip of the extensor tendon may occur with open and also with closed injuries, such as volar dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. For adequate treatment, it is necessary to identify all injured structures. Without appropriate primary management, the patient is likely to develop a subacute to chronic posttraumatic boutonnière deformity. A fixed boutonnière deformity requires recovery of joint mobility. Once joint mobility is achieved, secondary surgical reconstruction of the central slip can be performed with a tendon transfer or a tendon transplant.

An orthopedic hardware infection with Clostridium disporicum is described. C. disporicum is a gram positive anaerobic bacillus which can contain two subterminal spores. C. disporicum had not previously been reported in musculoskeletal infections. Tularaemia is a zoonotic infection caused by Francisella tularensis.Ulceroglandular, glandular, oculoglandular, pharyngeal, typhoidal and pneumonic types are the different types of the disease. Infection of prosthetic joints occurs at an exceedingly uncommon rate. We report a case of prosthetic joint infection involving the hip with F. tularensis, which to the best of our knowledge after a thorough literature review is the second of its kind.
