Dual hypocretin receptor antagonists enhance sleep and nursing behavior in lactating rats.

RATIONALE: Hypocretins (also known as orexins) are neuropeptides that regulate the sleep-wake cycle and modulate a variety of behaviors, including maternal behavior. They act through two receptor subtypes: hypocretin receptor 1 (HcrtR1) and hypocretin receptor 2 (HcrtR2). Hypocretin signaling is dynamically modulated across reproductive states, including the postpartum period, a stage characterized by increased wakefulness and fragmented sleep, likely reflecting the physiological demands of offspring care. Dual orexin receptor antagonists (DORAs), such as suvorexant, are clinically used as hyp

Association between self-compassion and perceived stress among undergraduate nursing students.

INTRODUCTION: Undergraduate nursing students are exposed to substantial academic and clinical stressors that may adversely affect their mental health and academic performance. Although self-compassion is considered a positive psychological resource, its association with perceived stress as a cognitive appraisal process has been insufficiently examined, particularly among nursing students. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the association between self-compassion and perceived stress among undergraduate nursing students. METHODS: A cross-sectional descriptive-correlational study was cond

Teaching Care with Pride: Integrating Transgender and Gender-Diverse Prespectives in Nursing Education.

This article discusses the challenges of including transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) people in Nursing Education. Discussions focus on theoretic and practical understandings of how binary sex and gender norms impact the teaching of care for TGD people. There are suggestions for how to infuse content related to TGD health throughout nursing education curriculum. There are specific calls to action for individuals, schools of nursing, and nursing education organizations like the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, and the National League for Nursing.

Building a Mental Health-Ready Nursing Workforce: A Scoping Review of Preparatory Interventions.

The rising prevalence of mental health conditions (MHCs), coupled with increased public awareness, has led to greater help-seeking behaviours and heightened demands on nurses across healthcare settings. However, many general trained nurses report feeling inadequately prepared to care for individuals with MHCs due to limited training and clinical exposure. This lack of preparedness may result in compromised quality of care, reduced professional satisfaction and poorer recovery outcomes for clients. Existing systematic reviews have predominantly focused on psychosocial interventions for psychiat

Exploring stakeholder perspectives on nursing competencies in palliative care in India: a qualitative inquiry.

BACKGROUND: India faces a growing need for Palliative Care due to its ageing population, rising cancer burden, and high prevalence of chronic illnesses. Unfortunately, less than 4% of the population has access to Palliative services, and the country ranks 59th in the 2021 Quality of Death Index. Contextually relevant and culturally sensitive nursing competencies are crucial to address this gap. However, there is no structured, evidence-based palliative nursing competency framework tailored to India's sociocultural and healthcare realities. This study explored stakeholder perspectives to identi
