Long-term effects of the nine-item list intervention on obstetric and neonatal outcomes in Robson group 1 - A time series study.

INTRODUCTION: The nine-item list, with organizational and cultural changes, was implemented at the delivery unit in Linköping, Sweden between 2007 and 2010, aiming at improving the quality of care by offering more women a safe and attractive vaginal delivery. The target group for the intervention was nulliparous women at term with spontaneous onset of labor and cephalic presentation (Robson group 1). The aim of this study was to evaluate pregnancy outcomes before, during, early post and late post introduction of the nine-item list. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Robson group 1 births (n = 12 763) from

Characteristics and short-term obstetric outcomes in a case series of 67 women test-positive for SARS-CoV-2 in Stockholm, Sweden.

INTRODUCTION: The Stockholm region was the first area in Sweden to be hit by the pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The national guidelines on the care of women with a positive test for SARS-CoV-2 (detection with polymerase chain reaction [PCR]) recommend individualized antenatal care, mode of delivery based on obstetric considerations, and no routine separation of the mother and the newborn. Breastfeeding is encouraged, and although there is no specific recommendation regarding wearing a face mask to prevent viral transmission to the newborn while

Knowledge about child birth and postpartum obstetric danger signs and associated factors among mothers in Dale district, Southern Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Globally, every day, approximately 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. The majority of these deaths occur after childbirth (post-partum period) mostly within 24 h. Raising awareness of women on obstetric danger sign of childbirth and postpartum, are crucial for safe motherhood initiative and to reduce maternal mortality. METHODS: A community based cross sectional study was conducted from December 15, 2017 up to February 10, 2018 on randomly selected sample of 782 women who had at least one delivery in the last 12 months. Multi stage sampling

Cumulative live-birth, perinatal and obstetric outcomes for POSEIDON groups after IVF/ICSI cycles: a single-center retrospective study.

Recently, perinatal outcomes and cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) have widely been utilized to assess the fertility outcomes and safety of assisted reproductive technology (ART), but more robust research is needed to address the success rates of live-healthy births resulting from this procedure, particularly for patients with low prognosis. This study aims to assess and comparative perinatal outcomes and CLBR per cycle of in vitro fertilization/Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) between four groups of low prognosis characterized by POSEIDON criteria. A retrospective assessment was do

A high-risk laboratory profile of antiphospholipid antibodies and thrombosis is associated with a large number of extra-criteria manifestations in obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome.

Extra-criteria manifestations such as thrombocytopenia and livedo are described associated with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) but are not included in the current classification criteria. Their clinical expression might be important, as they may be associated with a high-risk profile of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) and thrombosis. We evaluated the association between the presence of extra-criteria manifestations in primary obstetric-APS (POAPS) and aPL profiles. We also evaluated whether the presence of extra-criteria manifestations in POAPS patients increases the risk of developing thro

Predictive accuracy of Southwest Thames Obstetric Research Collaborative (STORK) chorionicity-specific twin growth charts for stillbirth: a validation study.

OBJECTIVE: Twin pregnancy is associated with a 2-3-fold increased risk of stillbirth compared with singleton pregnancy. Despite the fact that the growth pattern in twins has been shown to be different from that in singletons, it is controversial whether twin-specific growth charts should be used routinely. A major goal of prenatal ultrasound is to identify fetuses with growth restriction at risk of stillbirth. The main aim of this study was to compare the performance of chorionicity-specific twin charts with singleton charts, both customized and non-customized, in the antenatal prediction of s

Out-of-office blood pressure measurement for the diagnosis of hypertension in pregnancy: Survey of Canadian Obstetric Medicine and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists.

BACKGROUND: Multiple hypertension guidelines recommend out-of-office measurements for the diagnosis of hypertension in non-pregnant adults, whereas pregnancy guidelines recommend in-office blood pressure measurements. The objective of our study was to determine how Canadian Obstetric Medicine and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists measure blood pressure in pregnancy. METHODS: An email survey was sent to 69 Canadian Obstetric Medicine and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists in academic centers across Canada to explore the practice patterns of blood pressure measurement in pregnant women. The impact of maternal body mass index on the rate of obstetric anal sphincter injury in nulliparous women: A Victorian retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Maternal obesity is an important comorbidity in contemporary obstetrics practice and is associated with significantly increased perinatal complications. Obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASIS) sustained during labour can lead to faecal incontinence, chronic pain and effects on quality of life. Currently, it is unclear if maternal body mass index (BMI) influences the risk of sustaining OASIS. AIM: To investigate the impact of increased BMI on the rate of OASIS among nulliparous women. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted, which included nulliparous wom

"I feel myself incomplete, and I am inferior to people": experiences of Sudanese women living with obstetric fistula in Khartoum, Sudan.

BACKGROUND: Obstetric fistula is among the most devastating maternal morbidities that occur as a result of prolonged, obstructed labor. Usually, the child dies in a large number of the cases. Moreover, some of the women become infertile while the majority suffer physical, psychosocial and economic challenges. Approximately 5000 new cases of obstetric fistula occur in Sudan each year. However, their experiences are under documented. Therefore, this study aimed to shed light on their daily lives living with obstetric fistula and how they cope. METHODS: Using a qualitative study design, 19 women

Referral patterns through the lens of health facility readiness to manage obstetric complications: national facility-based results from Ghana.

INTRODUCTION: Countries with high maternal and newborn mortality can benefit from national facility level data that describe intra-facility emergency referral patterns for major obstetric complications. This paper assesses the relationship between referral and facilities' readiness to treat complications at each level of the health system in Ghana. We also investigate other facility characteristics associated with referral. METHODS: The National Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Assessment 2010 provided aggregated information from 977 health facilities. Readiness was defined in a 2-step pr

Prevalence and obstetric outcome of women with red cell antibodies in pregnancy at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, West Yorkshire, England.

OBJECTIVE: The prevalence of red cell antibodies in pregnancy varies with ethnicity and geographical location, while the obstetric outcome depends on the available standard of care. Despite being the tertiary fetal medicine centre in West Yorkshire, the prevalence of red cell antibodies, and the outcome of pregnancies associated with these antibodies at the Leeds University Teaching Hospitals Trust remains unreported. This article aims to provide this information for the purpose of patient education and counselling. STUDY DESIGN: The data of pregnant women with red cell antibodies between Jan
