Metabolic heterogeneous zone assessed by 18 FDG-PET is predictive of postablation mortality in patients with ventricular tachycardia.

PURPOSE: We sought to study the predictive value of the metabolic heterogeneous zone (HZ) as determined by 18 Fluorodeoxyglucose (18 FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) viability studies in ventricular tachycardia (VT) patients. METHODS: PET studies utilizing 82 Rubidium (82 Rb) tracer for perfusion and 18 FDG tracer for viability were analyzed using PMOD (PMOD Technologies) and further analyzed using 684-segment plots. 18 FDG uptake was normalized to the area with maximal perfusion on the rest 82 Rb study. Metabolic scar, HZ, and healthy segments were defined with perfusion-normalized 18

18F-FDG-Avid Lymph Nodes After COVID-19 Vaccination on 18F-FDG PET/CT.

A 68-year-old man with right cheek melanoma after resection underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT, which was unremarkable except for multiple FDG-avid subcentimeter but rounded lymph nodes in the left axilla. The patient had undergone a COVID-19 vaccination in the left arm 3 weeks prior. As under vaccinations have been documented to cause reactive FDG-avid lymph nodes, the nodes in our patient were considered benign, reactive to the COVID-19 vaccination. Although FDG-avid benign, reactive nodes have been an uncommon finding in the past, the upcoming surge in COVID-19 vaccinations makes this an important fi

Neuroinflammation in World Trade Center responders at midlife: A pilot study using [18F]-FEPPA PET imaging.

BACKGROUND: Neuroinflammation has long been theorized to arise from exposures to fine particulate matter and to be modulated when individuals experience chronic stress, both of which are also though to cause cognitive decline in part as a result of neuroinflammation. OBJECTIVES: Hypothesizing that neuroinflammation might be linked to experiences at the World Trade Center (WTC) events, this study explored associations between glial activation and neuropsychological measures including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom severity and WTC exposure duration. METHODS: Translocator protei

Binding characteristics of [18F]PI-2620 distinguish the clinically predicted tau isoform in different tauopathies by PET.

The novel tau-PET tracer [18F]PI-2620 detects the 3/4-repeat-(R)-tauopathy Alzheimer's disease (AD) and the 4R-tauopathies corticobasal syndrome (CBS) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). We determined whether [18F]PI-2620 binding characteristics deriving from non-invasive reference tissue modelling differentiate 3/4R- and 4R-tauopathies. Ten patients with a 3/4R tauopathy (AD continuum) and 29 patients with a 4R tauopathy (CBS, PSP) were evaluated. [18F]PI-2620 PET scans were acquired 0-60 min p.i. and the distribution volume ratio (DVR) was calculated. [18F]PI-2620-positive clusters (DV

Infection Control of COVID-19: Surgical Mask-Related Facial Cutaneous Artifact on FDG PET/CT.

In accordance with published international COVID-19 pandemic guidance (American College of Nuclear Medicine, British Nuclear Medicine Society, and European Association of Nuclear Medicine), the use of face masks has become an essential part of infection control for both patients and staff. A 56-year-old man with mantle cell lymphoma underwent staging FDG PET/CT, which demonstrated avid lymphadenopathy below the diaphragm and an unusual diffuse FDG uptake projected over the face, raising the suspicion of cutaneous lymphomatous involvement. On reflection of the clinical scenario and scanning con

18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in the diagnosis of drug-induced lung disease and pulmonary infection in lymphoma.

OBJECTIVE: Lymphoma is a hematological disease with high prevalence. Multi-cycle chemotherapy (CHT) or local radiotherapy is applied usually; however, adverse events have been reported, such as drug-induced lung disease (DILD). Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is often used to evaluate the lesion, treatment effect, and prognosis of lymphoma. We investigated DILD and pulmonary infection (PI) after multi-cycle CHT in lymphoma patients, to identify DILD and PI, provide guidance for later treatment for them. METHODS: In all, 677 patients diagnosed with lymphoma and who un

Longitudinal Assessment of Tau-Associated Pathology by 18F-THK5351 PET Imaging: A Histological, Biochemical, and Behavioral Study.

Several common and debilitating neurodegenerative disorders are characterized by the intracellular accumulation of neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), which are composed of hyperphosphorylated tau protein. In Alzheimer's disease (AD), NFTs are accompanied by extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ), but primary tauopathy disorders are marked by the accumulation of tau protein alone, including forms of frontotemporal dementia (FTD), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), among others. 18F-THK5351 has been reported to bind pathological tau as well as associated reactive as

Exploring regulation and function of dopamine D3 receptors in alcohol use disorder. A PET [11C]-(+)-PHNO study.

Preclinical studies support an important role of dopamine D3 receptors (DRD3s) in alcohol use disorder (AUD). In animals, voluntary alcohol consumption increases DRD3 expression, and pharmacological blockade of DRD3s attenuates alcohol self-administration and reinstatement of alcohol seeking. However, these findings have yet to be translated in humans. This study used positron emission tomography (PET) and [11C]-(+)-PHNO to compare receptor levels in several dopamine D2 receptor (DRD2) and DRD3 regions of interest between AUD subjects in early abstinence (n = 17; 6.59 ± 4.14 days of abstinence

Sarcoidosis vs. Colon Cancer Metastasis: Diagnostic Dilemma and the Role of PET Scan in Monitoring Disease Activity.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disorder characterized by "noncaseating granulomas." It primarily affects the lungs, but multiple other organs can be involved. Sarcoidosis has been increasingly reported in association with cancer. It can precede, follow or occur at the same time as the diagnosis of cancer. We report a case of sarcoidosis that was diagnosed concomitantly with colon cancer, highlighting the diagnostic dilemma of sarcoidosis vs. cancer metastasis, the relationship between the two, and the value of PET scan in follow-up and monitoring of disease activity.

Diagnostic accuracy of dual-phase 18F-FP-CIT PET imaging for detection and differential diagnosis of Parkinsonism.

Delayed phase 18F-FP-CIT PET (dCIT) can assess the striatal dopamine transporter binding to detect degenerative parkinsonism (DP). Early phase 18F-FP-CIT (eCIT) can assess the regional brain activity for differential diagnosis among parkinsonism similar with 18F-FDG PET. We evaluated the diagnostic performance of dual phase 18F-FP-CIT PET (dual CIT) and 18F-FDG PET compared with clinical diagnosis in 141 subjects [36 with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD), 77 with multiple system atrophy (MSA), 18 with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and 10 with non-DP)]. The influence of conditioned stimuli on [11C]-(+)-PHNO PET binding in tobacco smokers after a one week abstinence.

Stimuli previously paired with drugs of dependence can produce cravings that are associated with increased dopamine (DA) levels in limbic and striatal brain areas. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging with [11C]-(+)-PHNO allows for a sensitive measurement of changes in DA levels. The purpose of the present study was to investigate changes in DA levels, measured with PET imaging with [11C]-(+)-PHNO, in regions of interest in smokers who had maintained abstinence for 7-10 days. Participants (N = 10) underwent two PET scans on separate days, during which they viewed either smoking-related o

68Ga-DOTATATE PET-CT as a tool for radiation planning and evaluating treatment responses in the clinical management of meningiomas.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Meningiomas express the somatostatin receptor (SSTR), which normal bone and brain lack. PET imaging with SSTR ligands such as 68 Ga-DOTATATE have been recently shown to aid in the imaging and identification of menginiomas. We hypothesize that 68 Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT in conjunction with MRI aids in radiation (RT) target volume delineation and evaluating treatment response. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nineteen patients with meningiomas underwent 68 Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT and MRI for RT planning and/or post-treatment follow-up. Meningiomas were grade I (n = 9) or not biopsied (n = 8
