Objective physical activity and Alzheimer's disease burden in the population-based Rotterdam Study.

INTRODUCTION: Physical activity is linked to lower dementia risk, but its connection to Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology remains uncertain. This study examined the relationship between objectively measured physical activity and early AD biomarkers in cognitively unimpaired adults. METHODS: Accelerometer-measured physical activity and plasma AD biomarkers (beta-amyloid [Aβ]42/Aβ40, p-tau217) were assessed in 242 participants (age = 63.37 [54-79] years) of the population-based Rotterdam Study. Cortical Aβ was assessed via 18F-florbetaben positron emission tomography (PET) 7 years later. Robus

Comparing the efficacy of physical therapy interventions in Alzheimer's disease: a network meta-analysis.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive and debilitating neurodegenerative disorder that significantly impairs cognitive function and daily living abilities, representing a major public health challenge. Given the multifactorial nature of AD, effective therapeutic interventions targeting both cognitive and functional decline are critical. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive comparison of the therapeutic effects of music therapy, acupuncture therapy, game therapy, cognitive training therapy, and exercise therapy on AD patients through a network meta-analysis. Randomized controlled tri

Activity variability: A novel physical activity metric and its association with cognitive impairment.

INTRODUCTION: Evidence suggests that engaging in a high volume of daily or weekly physical activity may reduce the risk of cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). However, activity variability and its associations with cognition are underexplored. We examined whether activity variability, measured at the minute level, may capture movement patterns that provide insight into cognitive impairment risk. METHODS: Using a cross-sectional sample of 711 older adults (mean [standard deviation] age = 79.1 [6.0] years]) from the National Health and Aging Trends Stud

Identification of a Musculus Levator Claviculae on Physical Exam: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Background and Clinical Significance: The levator claviculae muscle (also known as cleidocervicalis) is a vestigial muscle located in the posterior triangle of the neck, extending from the upper cervical transverse processus to the clavicle. It has been detected in ~2% of humans, but is rarely documented in the radiologic or anatomic literature. When found on physical exam, it is usually mis-identified as lymphadenopathy, metastasis, cysts, an aneurysm, or other masses. It has been implicated in a few cases of thoracic outlet syndrome. Case Presentation: Herein, we describe a 25-year-old man w

The Relationship Between Physical Activity and Tinnitus Loudness and Severity: A Cross-Sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: Tinnitus is characterized by the perception of sound in the absence of an external stimulus and affects about 14.4% of the adult population. Psychological co-morbidities such as stress, anxiety, and depression can largely influence the patient's perception of tinnitus loudness and severity. Research has shown that these psychological conditions improve when patients are more physically active. To date, however, it is unclear if physical activity also affects tinnitus loudness and severity. Therefore, this study aims to uncover the relationship between physical activity and tinnit

Telecoaching and Migraine: Digital Approach to Physical Activity in Migraine Management. A Scoping Review.

Migraine is a common neurological disorder, affecting approximately 15% of the European population and is among the main causes of years lived with disability. In the context of increasing digitalisation, telecoaching (TC) is a new training modality that involves the use of digital tools to access and manage training services remotely. Given the well-documented benefits of physical activity in migraine management and the rapid expansion of digital health services following the COVID-19 pandemic, this scoping review aims to evaluate the use and feasibility of TC-based training programs in indiv

Adolescent girls and physical activity in public spaces: insights from the city of Antwerp.

Physical activity in adolescence is a key determinant of long-term health, yet teenage girls remain consistently less active than boys. Urban public spaces play a central role in facilitating everyday opportunities for physical activity, from informal play to organised sport. However, these spaces are not equally accessible or welcoming to all. They are sites where gendered hierarchies and norms surface, but also where other intersecting structures of inequality - such as socioeconomic background, migration status, dis/ability, and religion - shape who feels entitled to participate and who doe
