A novel oscillating bioreactor, BelloCell, was successfully applied for the cultivation of Vero cells using serum-free medium, and the production of Japanese encephalitis virus. OBJECTIVE: To study the impact of competing risks on Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and their consequences in case-control studies of gene-late onset disease association.
METHODS: Based on a population born in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for a particular gene, the genetic composition when the gene is associated with a lethal early-onset disease and its consequences on a late-onset disease can be deduced. OBJECTIVE: To observe the indication, surgical principle, clinical results and complications of microkeratome-assisted deep lamellar endothelial keratoplasty (DLEK).
METHODS: DLEK was performed in six patients with bullous keratopathy. One of the six patients underwent DLEK combined with vitrectomy under temporary artificial corneal and intraocular foreign-body removal. There is little debate about the primacy of surgery in the management of symptomatic or complicated primary hyperparathyroidism. Rather, the question has been what to do about the many patients with nonclassical disease. We investigated motorcycle rider death rates between states with full motorcycle helmet laws and those without. This was done using both unadjusted bivariate analyses and multivariate random-effects generalized least squares regression models of rider death rates. We conducted an epidemiological study of a Japanese encephalitis (JE) outbreak in the southwestern part of Nepal in 1997. A high density of JE infections was found and it was estimated that 27.9% the total population were infected with JE virus in the study area.
