Dreaming through wartime: Self-compassion and the echoes of trauma.

OBJECTIVE: This study examines dreaming in the context of prolonged collective trauma. Specifically, it investigates whether exposure to the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks in Israel, characteristics of dream life, and levels of self-compassion are associated with posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. METHOD: Participants were 203 Israeli adults (79% women; age range = 21-79 years, M = 38.7), recruited via social media approximately 3 months after the attacks. Dream characteristics were assessed using the Mannheim Dream Questionnaire, which measures both nor

Increasing the cognitive demand of upper-limb psychomotor tasks increases the perception of effort.

The motivation intensity theory suggests that the perception of effort (PE) reflects the self-monitoring of resources and is used to self-regulate goal-directed actions. Resource monitoring and self-regulation are typically studied separately in the motor or cognitive domain. Here, we tested the effect of cognitive demand on PE in two psychomotor tasks (experiment 1), and we examined the effect of prescribing a target level of PE intensity on performance (experiment 2). In experiment 1 (n = 20, within-participants), we used fixed tempo during two upper-limb psychomotor tasks (Box and Block Tes

Fluid management among outpatients with chronic heart failure: a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic heart failure (CHF) significantly impairs patients' quality of life and poses a substantial clinical burden. Fluid management is a critical aspect of self-care in CHF, particularly in out-of-hospital settings. However, the current status and factors influencing fluid management abilities among CHF patients outside the hospital remain insufficiently explored. This study aimed to examine the current state of out-of-hospital fluid management in CHF patients and identify factors influencing their self-management behavior. METHODS: A total of 184 patients were included in thi

Types of Punishment and Self-Reported Willingness to Change Behavior: Chain Mediation by Perceived Motivation for Punishment and Trust, and the Moderating Role of Group Relationship.

Correcting student misconduct is a central issue in educational psychology and classroom management; teachers often use punishment to correct students' inappropriate behavior. Numerous empirical studies have shown that punishment influences individuals' willingness to change their behavior, but the underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated. This study employed a scenario simulation method to survey 240 middle school students, aiming to explore the relationship between types of punishment and students' self-reported willingness to change their behavior in response to hypothetical scenarios.

From AI literacy to AI-integrated inquiry-based science teaching: the serial mediating roles of AI-TPACK and science teaching self-efficacy among Chinese pre-service science teachers.

INTRODUCTION: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being integrated into science education, creating new opportunities for visualization, simulation, data interpretation, inquiry-based learning, and scientific explanation. However, it remains unclear how pre-service science teachers translate AI literacy into the professional knowledge and confidence required for AI-supported inquiry-based science teaching. Drawing on AI-TPACK and teacher self-efficacy perspectives, this study examined the serial mediating roles of AI-TPACK and science teaching self-efficacy in the association between

High incidence of estrous cycle irregularities in heterogeneous stock (HS) rats is associated with footshock-resistant cocaine intake.

RATIONALE: Hormonal fluctuations throughout the estrous cycle are hypothesized to influence drug-related behaviors. Preclinical models show that some cocaine-related behaviors are influenced by the estrous cycle. However, the extent to which the estrous cycle modulates cocaine self-administration in outbred heterogeneous stock (HS) rats is unknown. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to examine the relationship between estrous phases and cocaine self-administration behavior in HS rats using an operant model of extended access to cocaine self-administration. METHODS: We assessed the escalation of intake, brea

Psychological Adaptation During Prolonged War-Related Stress in Ukraine: A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Civilian populations exposed to prolonged stress, loss, illness, displacement, and other uncontrollable life events demonstrate substantial variability in psychological adaptation. Contemporary research suggests that psychological outcomes are influenced not only by the severity of adversity but also by patterns of cognitive-emotional processing, including locus of control, rumination, self-compassion, and meaning-making. The ongoing war in Ukraine represents a distinct context in which civilians must adapt not after the cessation of trauma, but while recurrent threat, dis

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Weight Loss in Male and Female Active-duty Service Members: A Weight Management Study.

BACKGROUND: Overweight and obesity are critical public health concerns with relevance to U.S. military personnel, as active duty service members must meet physical fitness and body composition standards. Biological sex and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) diagnosis may affect service members' weight management efforts, but it is unclear what contribution each of these factors independently or in combination have on weight loss. METHOD: Addressing this gap in knowledge, the current study used multilevel models to examine the effects of sex and self-reported PTSD diagnosis on change in weig

Differential associations between mentalizing dimensions and psychopathy subtypes: the moderating role of borderline personality traits.

INTRODUCTION: Psychopathy comprises primary and secondary subtypes with distinct affective-interpersonal profiles. Mentalizing, i.e., the capacity to understand one's own and others' mental states, may help explain this heterogeneity. This study tested how three mentalizing dimensions (Self-Related, Other-Related, and Motivation to Mentalize) relate to psychopathy subtypes and whether borderline personality traits (BPTs) moderate these associations. METHODS: Adults from a community sample (N = 953) completed validated measures of psychopathy, mentalizing, and BPTs. BPTs were modeled as a cont

Parent-child communication and third generation's difficulties: Roles of parental depression and self-efficacy.

This study examines whether parents' past communication with their own parents is associated with children's psychological difficulties and whether this association is mediated by parents' depression and self-efficacy. Evidence of the intergenerational transmission of parent-child relationships is well-documented in the literature, but few studies have explored the intergenerational paths between grandparents' and parents' (first and second generations, G1-G2, respectively) communication, parents' depression and sense of efficacy, and children's (third generation, G3) psychological difficultie
