Generative AI may bias crop protection advice away from agroecological approaches.

Generative AI holds ample potential to make agri-food systems more productive, resilient, and nature-friendly, but also poses risks. Here, following a methodical assessment of AI-generated advice on crop protection provided by ChatGPT-5, DeepSeek 3.1 up to 3.2-Exp, NormAI, KissanAI and VirtualAgronomist, we reveal systematic biases, faulty recommendations, and unethical machine behavior. As proprietary AI-powered advisories tend to favor commodified inputs and restrict the plurality of non-chemical alternatives, they may create informational biases that could, in turn, influence farmers' uptak

Dance Interventions Improve Quality of Life and Related Psychological Factors Among Breast Cancer Survivors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis examined evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effects of dance interventions on quality of life (QoL) in women with breast cancer. Twelve RCTs were included, and pooled effect sizes were calculated as standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Compared with controls, dance interventions significantly improved QoL (SMD [95% CI] = 0.62 [0.20, 1.05], p = 0.004) and reduced depressive symptoms (SMD [95% CI] = -0.81 [-1.50, -0.12], p = 0.02). Subgroup analyses indicated that these effects were primarily driv

"If I Wear Glasses, I Will Go Blind": Misconceptions, Stigma, and Nonadherence to Spectacle Wear in Somalia's Outpatient Eye Clinics.

This commentary examines how misconceptions and stigma undermine adherence to spectacle wear in Somalia's outpatient eye clinics, despite clinically meaningful visual improvement during refraction. In routine practice, patients may refuse spectacles or wear them inconsistently because they believe spectacles weaken the eyes, create dependence, or lead to blindness, and because of social concerns such as being labeled as blind or disabled. These perceptions interact with service delivery constraints, including limited counselling time, variable optical quality, affordability barriers, and weak

The Associations Between Income and Depression: A Cross-National Analysis.

Depression remains one of the most prevalent global mental health challenges, while prior research has often examined its determinants through fragmented and isolated perspectives. A multidimensional understanding of how biological, psychological, social, and sociocultural factors jointly shape depression risk remains limited, particularly across national contexts. Using data from three nationally representative cohorts in the United Kingdom (Understanding Society: The UK Household Longitudinal Study), the United States (Midlife in the United States), and China (China Health and Retirement Lon

Cracking the code - an integrated wastewater-based approach for a more comprehensive assessment of current trends in cocaine and crack use in Switzerland.

In Switzerland, as in the rest of Europe and beyond, increasing cocaine and crack use, along with related social and health harms, is a serious concern to authorities. The aim of this study was to provide objective data on this complex situation by integrating wastewater analysis, targeting benzoylecgonine (BE) and anhydroecgonine methyl ester (AEME) in 13 Swiss cities from 2021 to 2024, with street-level cocaine purity data obtained from near-infrared spectroscopy analyses, and survey data on user populations and administration routes used to compute a weighted BE excretion rate. Results high

The Role of Subjective Well-Being in the Relationship Between Illness Invalidation, Acceptance, and Functioning in Fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic, widespread pain disorder that severely impairs daily functioning and well-being. Beyond physical symptoms, social and cognitive factors such as illness invalidation and difficulties in acceptance may further hinder adaptation. This study examined whether positive mental health and subjective well-being mediate the relationship between these factors and functioning in women with FM. A total of 148 women aged 20-65 completed self-report measures of the study variables. Preliminary correlation analyses showed that positive mental health was unrelated to invalidatio

Decoding neurodevelopment risks of exposures to intoxication, infection, and trauma during pregnancy.

The maternal environment plays a pivotal role in fetal neurodevelopment, but adverse conditions during pregnancy may disrupt key developmental processes. Conditions such as intoxication, infection, or trauma during pregnancy have been associated with impaired fetal oxygenation, altered immune signaling, and disrupted placental function, which may contribute to long-term neurodevelopmental alterations. This review examines evidence suggesting how prenatal exposures to alcohol, cocaine, Zika virus, rubella virus, Toxoplasma gondii, influenza, and traumatic brain injury can impact fetal brain dev

Neuroanatomical and functional substrates of the short video addiction and its association with brain transcriptomic and cellular architecture.

Short video addiction (SVA) has emerged as a growing behavioral and social issue, driven by the widespread use of digital platforms that provide highly engaging, personalized, and brief video content. We investigated the neuroanatomical and functional substrates of SVA symptoms, alongside brain transcriptomic and cellular characteristics, using Inter-Subject Representational Similarity Analysis (IS-RSA) and transcriptomic approaches. Behaviorally, we found that dispositional envy was associated with SVA. Structurally, SVA was positively correlated with increased morphological volumes in the or

Pre-participation Evaluation in Recreational High-Intensity Sports: A Literature Review.

The purpose of this review is to examine the development, validity, and reliability of pre-participation evaluation (PPE) in recreational athletes engaged in high-intensity sports (HISs). Recreational athletes, who participate in sports for enjoyment, fitness, and social engagement, are increasingly involved in high-energy activities such as swimming, tennis, and badminton. PPE is essential for identifying potential health risks, assessing fitness levels, and ensuring that athletes are physically prepared for the demands of these sports. This review highlights various PPE components, including

It's raining bots: how easier access to internet surveys has created the perfect storm.

Online surveys are an increasingly common way to collect data from the public, with social media and financial incentives (e.g. gift cards) commonly used to increase participation rates. Anonymity, ease of response, and the potential to reach diverse demographics have also contributed to the popularity of online surveys. Health services research benefits from the increased accessibility that online survey-based data collection provides; however, fraudulent responses are of concern. The following article describes our team's experience with a national survey of Canadian healthcare providers bei

Housing-related stress and substance use in the United States: a cross-sectional analysis of All of Us Research Program data.

Housing-related stress, defined as concerns about not having a place to live, represents a significant correlate of substance use that warrants further investigation. In this cross-sectional analysis of 4358 adults from the national All of Us Research Program we examined associations between housing-related stress and substance use, accounting for demographic factors and mental health status in the United States. We determined that housing-related stress was significantly associated with increased odds of substance use (OR = 1.49, 95% CI 1.31-1.70). Males, racial and ethnic minorities, and ind

Rethinking digital and AI inclusion: participatory and intersectionality-informed methods for disability and migrant justice.

Everyday consumer technologies are increasingly integral to autonomy, mobility, and social participation among people with disabilities and migrants from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds. However, these technologies often remain inaccessible and exclusionary at the intersection of these identities. This study examined how CaLD migrants with disabilities engage with everyday consumer technologies using participatory and intersectionality-informed approaches. This article focuses on Stage Two of the Autonomy, Diversity & Disability: Everyday Practices of Technology projec

Whose burden, whose benefit? Revisiting ethical trade-offs in the WHO guidelines on scaling up mass azithromycin administration.

New evidence suggests that mass drug administration of azithromycin (MDAA) can significantly reduce childhood mortality in high-burden, low-resource settings, yet the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2020 guidelines take a cautious approach due to concerns about antimicrobial resistance (AMR).While the WHO guidelines cite ethical principles, they insufficiently address key considerations, such as intergenerational justice, equitable burden sharing, and the structural determinants of health that shape infectious disease vulnerability.Global AMR policy often prioritizes conservation over access

MSBKA: A Multi-Strategy Improved Black-Winged Kite Algorithm for Feature Selection of Natural Disaster Tweets Classification.

With the advancement of the Internet, social media platforms have gradually become powerful in spreading crisis-related content. Identifying informative tweets associated with natural disasters is beneficial for the rescue operation. When faced with massive text data, choosing the pivotal features, reducing the calculation expense, and increasing the model classification performance is a significant challenge. Therefore, this study proposes a multi-strategy improved black-winged kite algorithm (MSBKA) for feature selection of natural disaster tweets classification based on the wrapper method's

Youth's sense of belonging and associated risk and promotive factors: An ecological systems network analysis.

IntroductionBelonging is a powerful predictor of positive outcomes in youth, including greater well-being. There remains a pressing need to integrate influences across layers of organization within youths' developmental contexts to further understand how to enhance belonging amongst this demographic. Here, we investigate: (1) "How do risk and promotive factors converge in relation to belonging among youth?" and (2) "Do risk and promotive factors associate differently with belonging between boys and girls?".MethodsResponses from a community-based questionnaire were analyzed to establish ecologi

A striosomal accumbens pathway drives stereotyped behavior through an aversive Esr1+ hypothalamic-habenula circuit.

The lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) integrates external stimuli with internal states to drive the choice between competing innate or value-driven motivated behaviors. Here, we define a striosomal Tac1+/Tshz1+/Oprm1+ neuron subtype in the nucleus accumbens (ACB) that targets Esr1+ LHA neurons that project to the lateral habenula (LHb). Intersectional cell type-specific and input-output defined optogenetic activation of this ACB-LHA-LHb pathway can progressively induce a negative behavioral state that depends on Esr1+ LHA-LHb neural activity. We found that either activation of the D1+ ACB-LHA pr

Ecologically-grounded observations offer unique insights into the embodied and embedded nature of infant learning.

Scientists and laypeople alike have long been inspired by infants' acquisition of skills-from walking to talking to interacting with objects. Indeed, complementary aims of developmental science are to characterize infants' changing skills and identify the experiences that propel learning. Our observations of infants' unconstrained behavior in the ecologically-valid home environment have led to new insights on learning that integrate theory at the intersection of Piaget's writings on embodied action and Vygotsky's writings on the socially embedded nature of learning. These insights formed the b
