Recent studies of the surface markers on cells in murine decidua have suggested that a proportion of the cells originate from the bone marrow. To examine directly the migration of bone marrow cells to decidua, we labeled whole bone marrow with TRITC and counted the number of cells appearing in decidua following adoptive transfer to virgin or allopregnant C3H mice. We studied the effect of biogenic ferrihydrite nanoparticles synthesized as a result of the culturing of Klebsiella oxytoca on Wistar rats with experimental toxic hemolytic anemia. In this study, 40 pigs with respiratory and wasting disorders from Cuban swine herds were screened by PCR for the presence of TTSuV1, TTSuV2, PCV-2, PPV and CSFV in spleen samples. The variability of the porcine TTSuV sequences obtained was investigated by phylogenetic analysis. This study showed for the first time that TTSuV1 and TTSuV2 were present in Cuban swine herds. Splenic torsion with rupture of spleen is an extremely rare phenomenon. The clinical picture mimics several common conditions which are causes of acute abdomen and so it is seldom detected pre-operatively. An 18 year old female patient was admitted with an acute abdomen and shock. The provisional diagnosis was of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. PURPOSE: The authors describe an adult patient with low index of suspicion for polysplenia. The diagnostic contribution of various investigative modalities is considered, and the key role of scintigraphy is specifically highlighted.
RESULTS: CT scan findings revealed multiple abdominal and retroperitoneal masses. Needle biopsy of a flank mass was nonspecific. Tc-99m sulfur colloid liver spleen scintigraphy and Tc-99m heat-denatured RBC scans showed the presence of polysplenia.

Adoptive transfer of T lymphocytes harvested from spleen of Rickettsia conorii-infected DBA/2 mice to intact and cyclophosphamide- (CPA-) pretreated syngeneic mice protected the latter from lethal infection caused by R, conorii. Protection from infection was not observed in recipient mice given immune serum or B lymphocytes and macrophages from the spleens of convalescent mice.
