BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: To report the rates of hypotony after 25-gauge vitrectomy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of 111 consecutive cases was performed in patients undergoing transconjunctival 25-gauge pars plans vitrectomy with either air or gas as a tamponade agent. The primary outcome measure was postoperative intraocular pressure less than 5 mm Hg. A Wilcoxon rank-sum test was conducted to determine the statistical significance of continuous variables in association with rates of hypotony.

Repositioning the lower lateral cartilages during primary cleft nose repair often requires external bolsters to place suspension sutures. We describe a series of primary unilateral cleft nasal repairs using a modified Tajima technique. The cleft-side lower lateral cartilage is suspended to the contralateral upper lateral cartilage using a buried polydioxanone suture passed through a reverse-U incision with a hollow needle. Treatment results of 612 patients aged from 17 to 71 years, with benign perineal diseases were analyzed. Perineal outcome in 1000 consecutive term non instrumental second vaginal deliveries was correlated with first delivery method and perineal outcome. Our aim was to determine the relationship between perineal outcome at first and second vaginal deliveries. Overall 75% of first non instrumental vaginal deliveries required sutures. BACKGROUND: Congenital mitral regurgitation continues to present a challenge for cardiac surgeons because of the diversity of the anatomy of the congenitally malformed mitral valve. We undertook aggressive repair of the mitral valve with artificial chordae for reconstruction of the prolapsed anterior leaflet in some children. The short-term results are reported herein.

We retrospectively evaluated the factors which might have caused excessive corneal astigmatism after penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) in 29 eyes, in which surgical correction of astigmatism was indicated. In 18 eyes high astigmatism (5 diopters or more) existed before suture removal probably due to graft elevation (3x), wound dehiscence (3x), wound configuration abnormalities such as ovality/overcut (8x), and a thin recipient cornea (2x). AIMS: This study aimed to establish the optimal fixation methods for calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fractures with different fragment thicknesses in a porcine model.
