Empowering Families Through Technology: A Mobile-Health Project to Reduce the TAND Identification and Treatment Gap (TANDem).

INTRODUCTION: Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a multi-system genetic disorder with various TSC-Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders (TAND) that significantly impact the mental health and wellbeing of individuals with TSC and their caregivers. TAND represents the number one concern to families worldwide, yet is highly under-identified and under-treated. The clinician-administered TAND-Checklist (Lifetime version, TAND-L) has improved identification of TAND in clinical settings. However, many individuals with TSC and their caregivers still have difficulty accessing suitable support for diag

An ion imprinting technology-assisted rotational microfluidic hybrid chip for the fluorescence detection of hexavalent chromium ions.

Ion imprinting technology was integrated on a rotational microfluidic paper- and cloth-based hybrid chip for the sensitive and selective detection of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) ions. The rotational microfluidic hybrid chip consisted of CdTe quantum dot based ion imprinting fluorescence sensing cloth and three layers of paper. Users can collect fluorescence signals conveniently via rotating the paper layer to expose the corresponding cloth-based sensing component. One microfluidic hybrid chip can realize the four-set multiplexed detection of Cr(VI) ions, with each set providing three parallel

Robotic total hip arthroplasty for fused hips in ankylosing spondylitis patients: Our experience with robotic arm technology.

The conversion from a fused hip to conventional total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with ankylosing spondylitis can be challenging. The problems are related to patient positioning, surgical exposure, femoral neck osteotomy, identifying the true acetabulum, and proper implant positioning. This case series describes our experience using the Mako Robotic-Arm in four bilateral THA procedures (each conducted in a single session) and one unilateral procedure in a fifth patient. Robotic total hip arthroplasty (RTHA) simplified THA by providing real-time information on the relative positions of t

Treatment of comminuted radial head fractures with personalized radial head prosthesis produced with 3-dimensional printing technology.

BACKGROUND: The radial head is the forearm's pivot point for supination-pronation. Although radial head resection can be performed in comminuted radial head fractures, radial head prosthesis has gained popularity in order to prevent possible complications such as progressive valgus instability in the elbow and secondary ulnocarpal impaction that may develop due to proximal displacement of the radius. As for radial head prostheses, standard prosthetic designs do not provide the same results in everyone, and the alignment of the radial head and radial neck angle cannot be fully achieved. We beli

Technology for Improving Street Dog Welfare and Capturing Data in Digital Format during Street Dog Sterilisation Programmes.

Street dogs survive on food handouts provided by individuals, or the wider community yet typically receive limited to no veterinary care. They can also carry a variety of zoonotic diseases such as rabies, posing a significant risk to human and dog population health. Dog sterilisation is one of the most humane and effective methods available to control street dog populations. Dog sterilisation programmes, particularly those operating at a large-scale, often face a variety of challenges including limited resources, staffing, and less-than-ideal facilities. Recordkeeping is often a challenge as w

Theoretical and Experimental Research on Multi-Layer Vessel-like Structure Printing Based on 3D Bio-Printing Technology.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Traditional autologous transplantation has become a severe issue due to insufficient donors. Artificial blood vessel is an effective method for the treatment of major vascular diseases, such as heart and peripheral blood vessel diseases. However, the traditional single-material printing technology has been unable to meet the users' demand for product functional complexity, which is not only reflected in the field of industrial manufacturing, but also in the field of functional vessel-like structure regeneration. In order to achiev

Paternal age over 50 years decreases assisted reproductive technology (ART) success: A single UK center retrospective analysis.

INTRODUCTION: To study whether paternal age exerts an effect, independent of maternal age, on the outcomes of fresh in vitro fertilization/ intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) cycles. Semen quality deteriorates with increasing paternal age; however, there is conflicting evidence for any impact paternal age may have on the outcome of IVF/ICSI. Several retrospective and prospective cohort studies have shown that paternal age increases the miscarriage rate and reduces the live birth rate. Some studies have shown no effect of paternal age on live birth rate or miscarriage rate. Studies inv

Use of Wise Device Technology to Measure Adherence to Hydroxyurea Therapy in Youth With Sickle Cell Disease.

Despite broad support for hydroxyurea (HU) therapy, suboptimal adherence is reported for youth with sickle cell disease. Valid adherence measurement is crucial to understanding the relationship between medication behavior, disease response, and patient-centered health outcomes. The current pilot study examined the feasibility of the Wise electronic device for longitudinal HU adherence measurement in a sample of 36 youths prescribed HU. The study also explored the association between HU adherence, as measured by the Wise device, with other adherence measures (ie, family report, lab values, pill

Evaluating an integrated cognitive competencies model to enhance teachers' application of technology in large-scale educational contexts.

There are cultural and educational barriers that hinder the adoption of technologies in educational practice. This is mainly owed to how the majority of teachers are still digital immigrants lacking adequate preparation to work in an environment of fast-paced innovation and without the corresponding updates of cognitive technology. In order to mitigate this problem, in this paper we present an alternative framework that intends to increase the effectiveness of technological application in broader educational contexts bringing together three constructs causally relating the domains of Cognitive

Digital Technology Interventions for Risk Factor Modification in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 50% of cardiovascular disease (CVD) cases are attributable to lifestyle risk factors. Despite widespread education, personal knowledge, and efficacy, many individuals fail to adequately modify these risk factors, even after a cardiovascular event. Digital technology interventions have been suggested as a viable equivalent and potential alternative to conventional cardiac rehabilitation care centers. However, little is known about the clinical effectiveness of these technologies in bringing about behavioral changes in patients with CVD at an individual level. OBJECTIV
