Lomitapide-induced fatty liver is a reversible condition: Evidence from a case of familial chylomicronemia syndrome.

Familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by severe hypertriglyceridemia. It is caused by loss-of-function variants in the genes encoding the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) enzyme and its cofactors, which severely impair the hydrolysis of triglycerides (TG). Its main complication is represented by acute pancreatitis (AP), a potentially life-threatening condition. Conventional TG-lowering therapies are poorly effective in FCS, thus requiring the search of novel treatments. Lomitapide, an inhibitor of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP), ha

Targeted Nutritional Metabolomic Analysis of Marine Species (Tursiops truncatus, Phoca vitulina, Otaria flavescens and Pygoscelis papua).

Ecological nutrition aims to unravel the extensive web of nutritional links that drive animals in their interactions with their habitat. Metabolomic profiling of species could increase the knowledge of their ecology, as well as allowing us to better understand the interactions of environment, including distribution, availability of food and fitness of the species, among others. Metabolomic profile is affected by several causes such as nutrition, physiological status, metabolism and species. Thus, the main aim of this work will be to provide, for the first time, values of the nutritional metabo

Metabolomic and immunological signatures of asthma severity in children.

BACKGROUND: Multiple risk factors for asthma severity have been identified by epidemiological studies. Yet, the pathophysiological mechanisms driving the severity of clinical asthma manifestations remain incompletely understood. In asthmatic children, Notch4 expression on circulating Treg cells and levels of circulating GDF15 have been shown to be increased as a function of disease severity, suggesting a contribution of Treg dysfunction to disease phenotype. METHODS: 126 children with asthma (intermittent = 40; mild persistent = 43; moderate persistent = 29, and severe persistent = 14) and 83

Management of chylous ascites after liver cirrhosis: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Chylous ascites is an uncommon condition, occurring in less than 1% of ascites cases. It results from traumatic or obstructive disruption of the lymphatic system, causing the leakage of thoracic or intestinal lymph into the abdominal cavity. This leads to the accumulation of a milky, triglyceride-rich fluid. In adults, malignancy and cirrhosis are the primary causes of chylous ascites. Notably, chylous ascites accounts for only 0.5% to 1% of all cirrhosis-related ascites cases. At present, there is a limited understanding of this condition, and effective timely management in clinic

Piceatannol affects fatty acid mobilization during isoproterenol-induced lipolysis in pig precision-cut adipose tissue slices.

Piceatannol, a stilbene structurally close to resveratrol, was previously shown to reduce lipolysis in mouse adipocytes both in vitro and in vivo. Here, we investigated the effects of both resveratrol and piceatannol on pig precision-cut adipose tissue slices stimulated with isoproterenol, a beta-adrenergic receptor agonist. Neither polyphenol affected glycerol release by adipocytes when applied at 10 or 100 μM. However, both compounds appeared to reduce glycerol release at 1 mM, suggesting a potential lowering effect on triglyceride hydrolysis at high concentrations. Since polyphenols may rea
