OBJECTIVE: To evaluate intestinal lesions in Burkitt lymphoma.
METHODS: Ultrasonography was used in the initial evaluation of 6 Japanese patients with intestinal Burkitt lymphoma.
RESULTS: Ultrasonography revealed marked wall thickening of the colon from the cecum through either the ascending or the transverse colon, which led to a target sign (4 cases) or a pseudokidney sign (2 cases). We describe a case of pseudo-xanthoma elasticum (PE) in a child with distinctive skin lesions without other symptoms. Renal ultrasonography showed a characteristic pattern of dotted increased echogenicity in the corticomedullary junction. Pancreas and spleen had similar echographic findings. We point out the importance of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of this rare disorder.

A case of Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS) diagnosed prenatally using ultrasonography is reported. The pregnant woman was gravida 2, para 0. Her husband had stigmata of the syndrome. Ultrasonography revealed polyhydramnios, abnormal fetal ears and marked micrognathia. Abortion occurred spontaneously at 26 weeks of gestation. The abortus bore clinical features of the syndrome.

Scrotal ultrasonography, completed by MRI, allowed the early diagnosis of a case of Fournier's gangrene, before the appearance of subcutaneous crepitation allowing rapid treatment adapted to the extent of necrosis. Ultrasonography is recommended in the assessment of inflammatory disease of the scrotum and/or perineum.
