Diminished humoral and cellular responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Previous studies have demonstrated low rates of seroconversion to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). In this national collaboration of 11 cancer centers in the United States, we aimed to further characterize and understand vaccine-induced immune responses, including T-cell responses, and the impact of CLL therapeutics (#NCT04852822). Eligible patients were enrolled in 2 cohorts (1) at the time of initial vaccination and (2) at the time of booster vaccination. The serologic response rate

Assessing the Self-reported After Events Following Immunization of COVID-19 Vaccines in Turkey and Bangladesh.

Though mass vaccination programs helped to reduce the severity of the ongoing pandemic, various unwanted effects were reported in Turkey and Bangladesh after taking vaccines. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the adverse effects of several vaccines in Turkey and Bangladesh and how the population of both countries prioritizes the continuation of vaccination compared to the side effects. An online survey with a pretest was conducted to gather data over the research period from July 10, 2021 to December 10, 2021. Finally, the questionnaire was shared with the mass population o

Understanding the Public's Attitudes Toward COVID-19 Vaccines in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom: Qualitative Social Media Analysis.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 vaccines remain central to the UK government's plan for tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. Average uptake of 3 doses in the United Kingdom stood at 66.7% as of March 2022; however, this rate varies across localities. Understanding the views of groups who have low vaccine uptake is crucial to guide efforts to improve vaccine uptake. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to understand the public's attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccines in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. METHODS: A qualitative thematic analysis of social media posts from Nottinghamshire-based profiles and data sources was c

Risk of Guillain-Barré Syndrome Following COVID-19 Vaccines: A Nationwide Self-Controlled Case Series Study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has been inconsistently associated with some coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines. We aimed to quantify the risk of GBS according to the type of COVID-19 vaccine in a large population. METHODS: Using the French National Health Data System linked to the COVID-19 vaccine database, we analyzed all individuals aged 12 years or older admitted for GBS from December 27, 2020, to May 20, 2022. We estimated the relative incidence (RI) of GBS within 1-42 days after vaccination up to the first booster dose compared with baseline periods us

Effect of monovalent and bivalent live attenuated vaccines against QX-like IBV infection in young chickens.

Since 1999, QX-like (GI-19) avian infectious bronchitis viruses have been the predominant strains in China till now. Vaccination is the most effective way to control the disease, while live attenuated vaccine is widely used. In the current research, we evaluated the effect of several monovalent and bivalent live IBV vaccines in young chickens against the QX-like (GI-19) IBV infection. The results showed that monovalent 4/91 and bivalent Ma5+LDT3 vaccines could provide efficient protection in day-old chickens that reduced morbidity and mortality, ameliorated histopathology lesions, and reduced

New Pneumococcal Vaccines for Prevention of Invasive Pneumococcal Disease in Adult Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at a high risk of developing invasive pneumococcal infection both before and after they are diagnosed. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices now endorses use of 2 new pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, PCV15 (Vaxneuvance) and PCV20 (Prevnar 20), for patients who have never received a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine or those with unknown vaccination history. Previous studies have shown that pneumococcal vaccination can decrease the risk of developing severe pneumococcal disease; therefore, it is important that patients with IBD receive

Effects of concurrent administration of modified live viral vaccines with RB51 on immune responses to RB51.

Brucella abortus is a gram negative, zoonotic pathogen that can cause abortions and stillbirths in the cattle industry and has contributed to significant economic losses to cow-calf producers. Cell mediated immunity (CMI) is an important component of the immune response associated with protection against Brucella abortus and other intracellular pathogens. Brucellosis and viral modified live vaccines (vMLV) are licensed individually but may be used concurrently under field conditions. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from non-vaccinated cattle and cattle vaccinated with either Brucella

Immuno-profiling of Brucella proteins for developing improved vaccines and DIVA capable serodiagnostic assays for brucellosis.

Brucellosis remains a worldwide zoonotic disease with a serious impact on public health and livestock productivity. Controlling brucellosis in livestock is crucial for limiting human infections in the absence of effective human vaccines. Brucellosis control measures are majorly dependent on rigorous monitoring of disease outbreaks and mass vaccination of livestock. Live attenuated vaccines are available for livestock vaccination that play a vital role in brucellosis control programs in many countries. Even though the existing animal vaccines confer protection against brucellosis, they carry so

Infant mortality rates and pneumococcal vaccines: a time-series trend analysis in 194 countries, 1950-2020.

Pneumonia due to Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) is a major cause of mortality in infants (children under 1 year of age), and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs), delivered during the first year of life, are available since the year 2000. Given those two premises, the conclusion follows logically that favourable impact reported for PCVs in preventing pneumococcal disease should be reflected in the infant mortality rates (IMRs) from all causes. Using publicly available datasets, country-level IMR estimates from UNICEF and PCV introduction status from WHO, country-specific time series

Safety of Streptococcus pyogenes Vaccines: Anticipating and Overcoming Challenges for Clinical Trials and Post-Marketing Monitoring.

Streptococcus pyogenes (Strep A) infections result in a vastly underestimated burden of acute and chronic disease globally. The Strep A Vaccine Global Consortium's (SAVAC's) mission is to accelerate the development of safe, effective, and affordable S. pyogenes vaccines. The safety of vaccine recipients is of paramount importance. A single S. pyogenes vaccine clinical trial conducted in the 1960s raised important safety concerns. A SAVAC Safety Working Group was established to review the safety assessment methodology and results of more recent early-phase clinical trials and to consider future

The Reemerging Condition of Vaccinia: A Case Report and Brief Review of Monkeypox and Vaccinia Vaccines.

BACKGROUND The emergence of the monkeypox virus (mpox) is causing a large-scale re-administration of vaccinia-based vaccines. Many physicians have not been exposed to the rare, but implicit, complications, revealing a glaring need for updated evidence and re-examination. We present a case of a Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-positive male patient who presented to the Emergency Department (ED) with vaccinia symptoms several days after receiving the JYNNEOS vaccine. CASE REPORT A 45-year-old man with a past medical history of well-controlled HIV presented to the ED for 5 days of nocturnal dia
