Synthesis and structure of the mercury hydride compound, [TismPriBenz]HgH: a complete series of congeneric terminal hydride compounds of zinc, cadmium and mercury.

The terminal mercury hydride compound, [TismPriBenz]HgH, which features the tris[(1-isopropylbenzimidazol-2-yl)dimethylsilyl]methyl ligand, has been synthesized via the reaction of the triphenylsiloxide compound, [TismPriBenz]HgOSiPh3, with PhSiH3. The molecular structure of [TismPriBenz]HgH has been determined by X-ray diffraction in two crystalline forms, thereby completing the congeneric series of monomeric terminal hydride compounds of zinc, cadmium and mercury. NMR spectroscopic evidence for the terminal mercury hydride compound is provided by signals at δ 10.55 and δ -680 ppm in the 1H a

Assessment of the efficacy of agarose and agarose augmented with zinc oxide, carbon dots, and graphitic carbon nitride nanostructures in the restoration of historic tintype.

Tintype photographs, a popular medium in the 19th century, provide valuable cultural and historical records. However, they are frequently at risk due to surface contaminants, such as soot and dust, which compromise both the visual appearance and the chemical stability of tintypes. The sheet-like nature of tintypes makes them highly susceptible to damage from conventional cleaning methods, which can cause scratching and result in partial loss of the image layer. The present work evaluated efficiency of various cleaning techniques, including swab cleaning, agarose gel, and nanomaterial‑modified

Influence of iron, calcium, and zinc on the oxidative stability of omega-3 fatty acids in pea protein-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions.

BACKGROUND: Plant-based emulsified foods fortified with omega-3 fatty acids and minerals are nutritionally attractive, but their formulation is challenging because alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is highly susceptible to oxidation and some mineral salts may act as pro-oxidants. This study evaluated how iron, zinc, and calcium salts affect pea protein isolate (PPI) properties and ALA oxidative stability in PPI/kappa-carrageenan (KC) gelled emulsions. Treatments included PPI-mineral systems containing ferrous glycinate (FeGly), zinc gluconate (ZnG), calcium gluconate (CaG), calcium lactate (CaL), cal

Bioinformatics Analysis of the Diagnostic Value of Copper and Zinc Metabolism-Related Genes in Major Depressive Disorder: An In Silico Multi-Cohort Study.

This study aimed to identify copper and zinc metabolism-related genes as potential diagnostic biomarkers for major depressive disorder through an integrated multi-cohort bioinformatics analysis. GSE98793 (whole blood) served as the training set, with GSE39653 and GSE52790 (both PBMC) as external validation sets. Platform differences were corrected with ComBat using disease status as a covariate; batch parameters were estimated on the training set alone and applied to the validation cohorts by a frozen reference-batch approach, preventing data leakage. Optimizing the osteogenic and angiogenic properties of nano-bioactive glass through adjustment of zinc and magnesium ion doping ratios: an in vitro study.

Bioactive glass (BG) is an ideal bone substitute material. Current research focuses on optimizing its performance by introducing bioactive ions and leveraging its degradability for sustained ion release. However, previous studies have mainly concentrated on single-ion doping, neglecting the impact of multi-ion co-doping on glass structure and dynamic release behavior, thereby failing to effectively enhance performance of BG through multi-ion doping strategies. In this study, Zn2+ and Mg2+ were co-doped into BG at different ratios (Zn/Mg: 0%/20%, 5%/15%, 10%/10%, 15%/5%, 20%/0%) using the emuls

Comparative multi-generational bioassay on individual and mixture toxicity of silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles: effects on growth and reproduction in Artemia salina.

This research compared multigenerational toxicity of individual and combined silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles (AgNPs and ZnONPs) on Artemia Salina, focusing on mortality, growth (weight and length), and reproductive indices. Three consecutive generations (F0, F1, and F2) of Artemia were exposed to AgNPs (0.6 mg L-1), ZnONPs (0.25 and 0.5 mg L-1), and their combinations (AgNPs|ZnONPs). Higher mortality was recorded for F0 and F1 compared to F2 in individual ZnONPs treatments (F0 > F1 > F2); similarly, the highest mortality (62.5 %) occurred in F0, while the lowest (25 %) in F2 exposed to AgN

Identifying iNOS and glycogen as biomarkers for degenerated cerebellar purkinje cells in autism spectrum disorder: Protective effects of erythropoietin and zinc sulfate.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a collective neurodevelopmental disorder affecting young children and accounting for 1% of the world's population. The cerebellum is the major part of the human brain affected by ASD and is associated with a substantial reduction in the number of Purkinje cells. An association between ASD and the expression of the nitrosative stress biomarker inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), as well as glycogen deposition in damaged Purkinje cells, has not been previously reported in the medical literature. To explore this correlation, young rats were injected with prop

Subtle concentration changes in zinc hold the key to fibrillation of α-synuclein: an updated insight on the micronutrient's role in prevention of neurodegenerative disorders.

Misfolded proteins have been found to be at the core of an increasing number of cognitive ailments. α-synuclein, a resident chaperone of the neurosynaptic cleft has been implicated in a major share of these neurodegenerative diseases. Over the years, a daunting task for researchers has been the identification of the complex set of conditions which govern the Substantia nigra microenvironment for transformation of α-synuclein from a functional and grossly structureless chaperone to toxic cross-β fibrils. An abundance of Reactive Oxygen Species and a drop in pH of the solvent have been identifie

Role of the Maillard reaction products of oyster peptides and chitosan oligosaccharide in chelation with zinc: restoring testicular injury and the testosterone synthesis pathway.

In this study, an oyster peptide-chitosan oligosaccharide complex (MOC) was prepared via the Maillard reaction (1.2 : 1, 90 °C, 5 h), followed by zinc chelation (30 °C, 30 min) to form MOCZn, achieving 84.5% zinc-binding capacity. Characterization revealed that MOCZn had a compact secondary structure, increased particle size (1338-1971 nm), improved thermal stability, and attenuated zinc crystal peaks. In vitro digestion showed high stability (soluble zinc: 2.17 mg L-1). In zinc-deficient mice, MOCZn increased body weight, restored organ indices, and elevated serum zinc. A medium dose normaliz

Influence of Tetrabromobisphenol-A on the Fate and Behavior of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Affected by Salts, Humic Acid, and Bovine Serum Albumin in Water Systems.

The environmental release of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) may have consequences for ecosystems. The behavior and environmental effects of ZnO-NPs could change due to their interactions with other existing substances. This research explored how the presence of coexisting organic pollutants (like tetrabromobisphenol-A (TBBPA)), electrolytes (such as NaCl and CaCl2), natural organic materials (including humic acid (HA)), and bovine serum albumin (BSA) in simulated water affected the behavior of ZnO-NPs. Various characterization techniques were used to analyze the size, shape, purity, crysta

Structural and Thermodynamic Insights into Competitive Binding of the EGR1 and Sp1 Zinc Finger Class of Transcription Factors with a GC-Rich DNA Motif.

Transcriptional control of gene regulation in eukaryotes is primarily associated with the binding of transcription factors (TFs) to a particular motif sequence in genomic DNA, among the vast number of identical or highly similar sequences in the genome. The cooperative as well as competitive interactions among the paralogous TFs are believed to play an important role in this aspect to control precise gene regulatory functions. So far, the molecular mechanism of competitive TF binding is obscured, and due to a lack of molecular insights, it is difficult to predict how competitive interaction in

The structure, redox chemistry and motor neuron toxicity of heterodimeric zinc-deficient SOD1-implications for the toxic gain of function observed in ALS.

A subset of familial cases of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (fALS) are caused by mutations to copper, zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu, Zn SOD1). Over 200 mutations to SOD1 that have been associated with fALS and the majority of these mutations are dominantly inherited. Thus, individuals are heterozygous and express both wild-type SOD1 and the mutant form of the protein. Paradoxically, the motor neuron disease accelerates in rodent models that mimic the co-expression of wild-type SOD1 with mutant fALS SOD1. Previously, we have shown that the loss of zinc from SOD1 triggers motor neuron death in c
