Predictors of mortality among low birth weight neonates after hospital discharge in a low-resource setting: A case study in Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Most neonatal deaths occur among low birth weight infants. However, in resource-limited settings, these infants are commonly discharged early which further exposes them to mortality. Previous studies on morbidity and mortality among low birth weight infants after early discharge mainly focused on very low birth weight infants, and none described post-discharge neonatal mortality. This study aimed to determine the proportion and predictors of mortality among low birth weight neonates discharged from the Special Care Baby Unit at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Uganda. METHODS:

Neurodevelopment of Children Born with Forceps Delivery-A Single Tertiary Clinic Study.

Background and Objectives: Forceps delivery is a crucial obstetrical technique that has become increasingly underutilized in favor of cesarean delivery, despite the numerous complications related to cesarean sections. The major concerns with regard to assisted vaginal birth (AVB) are safety and long-term consequences. We aimed to investigate a neurological outcome of neonates and children at the age of 7 who were born via forceps delivery. This would greatly improve informed decision making for both mothers and obstetricians. Materials and Methods: A single-arm cohort study was conducted from

May the indication for a previous cesarean section affect the outcome at trial of labor in women with induction of labor? A retrospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Cesarean sections are increasing worldwide and are associated with altered risks of complications for both mother and child. Vaginal birth after cesarean section is associated with lower maternal and neonatal morbidity than in repeat cesarean section. Only a few studies have considered the indication for the previous cesarean section to be of importance for the outcome of subsequent labor. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the indication for a previous cesarean section affects the outcomes at a subsequent delivery in women with induction of labor. MATERIAL AND METHOD

VEGF I/D variant and preeclampsia risk in Turkish women: a case-control study.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a systemic vascular disorder, is caused by an imbalance of pro- and anti-angiogenic factors that directly affect endothelial function. Vascular endothelial growth factor A (called VGF), a pro-angiogenic factor associated with endothelial dysfunction, plays an important role in the pathophysiology of PE. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between -2549 insertion/deletion (I/D) variant in the VEGF promoter region and PE in pregnant women in Turkey. A total of 100 patients diagnosed with PE and 118 healthy pregnants were recruited. To genotype the VEGF I/D variant, t
