Following HIV-1 infection, a number of disorders are induced in both normal T and B cells by virus products derived from infected CD4+ T cells. In the present study, we found that HIV-infected, but not uninfected, human T cell lines generated vigorous blastogenesis and proliferation of freshly isolated mouse B cells in a short-term culture. Lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL) is a rare hematologic malignancy that originates from immature lymphocytes and usually expresses terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT). Here, we report a case of TdT-negative B-LBL. A 71-year-old male patient presented to a hospital with shortness of breath. His chest computed tomography showed a mediastinal mass. Tumor cells did not express TdT but expressed MIC2, which led to LBL diagnosis. MIC2 is a useful marker for LBL diagnosis.

Celiac disease is a human T cell-mediated autoimmune-like disorder caused by exposure to dietary gluten in genetically predisposed individuals. This review will discuss how CD4 T cell responses directed against an exogenous Ag can cause an autoreactive B cell response and participate in the licensing of intraepithelial lymphocytes to kill intestinal epithelial cells. Furthermore, this review will examine the mechanisms by which intraepithelial cytotoxic T cells mediate tissue destruction in celiac disease.

Mycophenolate mophetil (MMP) is a potent immunomodulatory drug that inhibits the function of T and B lymphocytes. It is used successfully in the treatment of recurrent noninfectious uveitis in adults and children. MMF can be used alone or in combination with other immunomodulatory drugs (biologics or calcineurin inhibitors) for moderate and severe cases of anterior, intermediate and posterior uveitis. It can also be used for treatment of patients with scleritis and ocular cicatricial pemphigoid.

Biopsy specimens of the skin and oral mucosa from twenty-five patients bearing the disseminated form of histoplasmosis (H. capsulatum) associated with AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) were studied by histologic and immunohistochemistry techniques. Histologically, the skin lesions showed four different patterns: diffuse macrophage, granulomatous, vasculitic with leukocytoclastic and scarce inflammatory reaction. The cell markers for macrophages, lymphocytes B and T and H. capsulatum revealed CD68, UCHL-1 and L26 associated with variable amounts of fungi.

In experimental ascariosis (Ascaris suum) of pigs a preparation of glucan combined with pig immunoglobulin and zinc was found to significantly elevate the levels of both T and B lymphocytes in the blood, and to significantly stimulate the phagocytic ability of monocytes and neutrophilic granulocytes in experimental pigs. The protective effect of the preparation, assessed by the reduction in the number of migrating ascarid larvae in the lungs of pigs was 65%.
