AIMS: Studies on diabetes mellitus have shown that the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/serine threonine kinase (AKT)/forkhead box protein O1 (FoxO1) signaling pathway can regulate insulin secretion by modulating the expression of pancreatic and duodenal homeobox-1 (PDX-1).
