Assessment of Executive Function Skills in Children with Isolated Growth Hormone Deficiency: A Cross-sectional Study.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate executive function (EF), such as inhibition and working memory, in children with isolated growth hormone deficiency (IGHD) using performance-based tests and parent-report scales. METHODS: A total of seventy children between the ages of 7 and 12 years were included in the study. Half (n=35) had children with IGHD and half were healthy controls. To evaluate the EF performances of the participants, the Visual Aural Digit Span Test-B Form (VADS-B) and Stroop task were applied. EF was also evaluated using the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive F

Cervical Spine Range of Motion and Sleep Disturbances in Patients With Atopic Dermatitis: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbances are common and distressing among patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), often resulting in a cycle of worsening skin conditions. Among various factors affecting sleep in AD, cervical spine movement has been suggested to influence sleep quality; however, these studies mostly relied on subjective measures. Owing to the lack of objective and quantitative analyses of cervical spine movement, its association with sleep disturbances remains poorly understood. This exploratory study aimed to investigate the relationship between quantitatively measured cervical spine rang

Bearing the burden: Podoconiosis and mental health-A three-way comparative cross-sectional study in Rwanda.

Podoconiosis is a non-infectious, neglected tropical disease caused by chronic barefoot contact with irritant volcanic soils. It typically presents with lower limb swelling, disfigurement, and chronic disability. Patients and their families experience stigma from their communities. Depression, anxiety, and emotional distress contribute to the total illness burden of podoconiosis. This study used a survey-based comparative cross-sectional quantitative study design involving podoconiosis patients, their family members, and unaffected neighbors. The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS 21)

Postoperative Pain after Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in a Tertiary Care Center: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, being minimally invasive, is widely accepted in comparison to open cholecystectomy. The major benefits are small incision, less wound pain, rapid recovery, shorter hospital stay and earlier return to activities. Although, trauma and injury are limited in laparoscopic cholecystectomy; it is not a pain free surgery. Hence, we aimed to find the prevalence of pain at wound site after laparoscopic cholecystectomy at various time intervals in post-operative period. METHODS: The descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 125 patients who belonge

The association between temporomandibular disorders signs and symptoms, bruxism, and health variables: A cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to determine the associations between several important and potentially modifiable health variables and TMD signs and symptoms. METHODS: A total of 209 adult dental patients from two clinics completed surveys on demographics, self-reported awake and sleep bruxism, TMD signs and symptoms, stress, depression, chronic pain, and sleep quality. Correlations and regression analyses were used to identify associations between these health variables and TMD symptoms. RESULTS: Awake bruxism was significantly associated with chronic pain intensity, jaw pain, clenching pain, a

This study aims to investigate the potential correlation between feminine sexual dysfunction and trunk stability among stroke survivors. Materials and Methods: Thirty-eight women (stroke group n = 19 and control group n = 19) were recruited. A cross-sectional observational study was designed. Outcome measures were recorded using the Femin

Malnutrition prevalence according to GLIM and its feasibility in geriatric patients: a prospective cross-sectional study.

PURPOSE: In 2019, the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) suggested a 2-step diagnostic format for malnutrition including screening and diagnosis. Prospective validation and feasibility studies, using the complete set of the five GLIM criteria, are needed. The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of malnutrition, and investigate how the prevalence varied with mode of screening. Furthermore, we assessed the feasibility of GLIM in geriatric patients. METHODS: Consecutive patients from two acute geriatric wards were included. For screening risk of malnutrition, the

Mental health and help-seeking in Czech sexual minorities: a nationally representative cross-sectional study.

AIMS: The mental health of sexual minority (SM) individuals remains overlooked and understudied in Czechia. We aimed to estimate (1) the prevalence rate and (2) the relative risk of common mental disorders and (3) the mental distress severity among the Czech SM people compared with the heterosexual population. In addition, we aimed to investigate help-seeking for mental disorders in SM people. METHODS: We used data from a cross-sectional, nationally representative survey of Czech community-dwelling adults, consisting of 3063 respondents (response rate = 58.62%). We used the Mini-International

Strain echocardiography predictors in patients with concomitant cardiac amyloidosis and aortic stenosis: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Concomitant cardiac amyloidosis (CA) and aortic stenosis (AS) may be mistaken for isolated AS, potentially impacting the treatment strategy and patient's prognosis. Therefore, it is crucial to distinguish between these conditions, as failure to promptly diagnose CA may lead to considerable complications. The aim of this study is to investigate the diagnostic value of strain predictors in patients with concomitant CA and AS compared to isolated AS. METHODS: Forty-two patients with severe AS suspected of concomitant CA based on a comprehensive clinical evaluation were selected to un

Assessment of potential myopia risk factors, including chronotype, in Estonian adolescents: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Myopia is a growing healthcare concern worldwide. Increasing evidence suggests that sleep and circadian rhythms may be associated with myopia. Furthermore, the risk factors of myopia have not been studied in the Estonian population to date. This study aimed to evaluate chronotype, lifestyle factors, and parental myopia in relation to myopia in Estonian secondary school students. METHODS: Grade 10 students from three secondary schools in Tallinn, each with distinct focuses: one science-oriented, one arts-oriented, and one sports-oriented, were invited to participate. They underwent

The association between visceral fat obesity and prefrailty in Chinese older adults: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of obesity is escalating. Previous research has concentrated on the link between frailty and obesity; however, the association between prefrailty and obesity has been less studied. Prefrailty screening and intervention may prevent or postpone frailty in older persons. OBJECTIVE: The study was to investigate into the relationship between prefrailty and several obesity indicators in Chinese community-dwelling older individuals. METHODS: This research employed the Frailty Screening Index to investigate the frailty phenotype of people living in Shanghai. Bioelectrical
